    His friend loves it! I had forgotten how useful a vice that size was for the type of projects I accomplish today. David’s work is that of a true craftsman and he is a great guy.

    Great job David. I always like it when the numbers and lettering is highlighted, it seems to make it look that much better. Your friend should really like it. Have a good week.

    Hey David
    I loved the restoration of the vise. It gave me helpful tips on restoring some yard lamps. I shared your video with 4 friends. Keep sending those videos!

      Thanks Big Vic. The letter casting was in really good shape on this one which makes the hi-lighting a little easier. Thanks for being here.

    Very nicely done David. I was surprised at first when you said 5" because I have never seen one. I have found that every vice restoration I have done they all leve the manufacturer with work that should have been done. I guess all my vises have been made on Fridays.

      Thanks Ryan. Funny, sometimes when watching playback I'm like why did I say that? And, definitely a Friday vise! LOL.

    Nice job. I find vise restoration to be a lot of fun. Small, simple machines. Lately I have been putting a dab of anti-seize compound on the jaw threads. These threads are often difficult to move on older vises, as your video showed.

    • @westhighlandsshop
      @westhighlandsshop  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks! I'll have to try the anti-seize on the next one. What's your favorite brand of Vise?

      @@westhighlandsshop What got me started was a Charles Parker 272, a swivel base vise. It was given to me. As I was disassembling it to restore I was surprised to learn it was a somewhat rare swivel jaw unit. Since then, I try to buy whatever is available at a reasonable price, as restoration is my interest, not really using the vises. I've done a small Wilton, a few Craftsman units and a few of the huge Chinese swivel head vises, which I find are a lot of cheap fun. I have a Littlestown 29, a very small vise that is somewhat unique in that the front jaw is stationary, the back jaw travels on the base. I can email you a photo if you are interested.

    Nice job! The paint came out great! Could you have turned the jaws upside down so the beat up side is at the bottom and the good side on the top, or do the holes not line up?

    • @westhighlandsshop
      @westhighlandsshop  8 месяцев назад

      Can't remember but I think I tried that and they didn't line up real good, but awesome suggestion. Thanks!

    where do you buy your paint pens,and are you happy with the way they hold up over time?

    • @westhighlandsshop
      @westhighlandsshop  8 месяцев назад +1

      Amazon and no. The first use is good then they sit too long. They either dry out or dump paint everywhere. (Could be user error LOL). I’ve been trying to use sign painters paint but I just don’t have the steady hand! Thanks for watching.
