As a woman in my late 60s, I just despair that there are young educated women that actually want to dress like this and make arguments in favour of something so ridiculous. It's beyond sad.
As a woman 60 a Muslim I answer to God , the in the way I dress, and so why do you feel the need to trample over me and my religious freedoms ? Do you get upset about boobs pouring out of bras, and butt bare and showing it All or skirts so short they are mistaken for blouses ? . Please don't attempt to bend over in your Corporate offices . See in society it's such the norm that when you don't see boobs and butts you get ticked off
Just because you’ve spent your life uncovered and been the object of many people’s wondering obsession’s and gazing eyes it does not mean everybody wants to live their life like that.
As a motorcyclist, I am very often refused to be served at a petrol station, unless I remove my helmet. This is so I can be identified in case I try to drive off without paying. In this country, it is offensive to walk around with your face covered. If a man walked into a bank with a balaclava on, it would be assumed he was about to commit a robbery. Respect British values, or bog off.
Would saudi allow changes in their country. You muslim want your laws every where you go its not right you are in uk either you live by their british laws. Not saudi laws

I’m an American and I’ve recently discovered Douglas Murray and I can’t get enough of his candid truth! Thank you Mr. Murray for speaking the truth for all of us!
Respect a person's right to dress modestly. If you want to strip a woman's clothing that she consider is something that is protecting her modesty than it is not the middle east, it is something way worse and you people shouldn’t be talking about women's rights, freedom or human rights around the world with this much gusto.
In her late 70s my mum became afraid to do her own shopping because she was loudly accused of being racist in a supermarket when she refused to be served by a lady in a veil. She was deaf and could only lipread. Her explanation was rejected by the supervisor. Her self confidence was stripped away and she never went anywhere alone again for fear of it happening again.

In this climate where terrorism and radicalization are at high possibility, looking at someone and not knowing who they are is highly stressful. I never understood why theses people wanted to leave their country to come to the UK without being willing to assimilate.
Because when Mohamed died in the year 632 he instructed all faithful to INVADE, DESTROY AND DOMINATE SO THAT ISLAM RULES THE WORLD. And that is what all these Muslim "refugees" and "immigrants" are doing. Invasion by stealth. And that is why they never go to another Muslim country.
If you live in Britain, wear it indoors, not outside. It’s a country who doesn’t wear them, so respect OUR religion and culture. I was referring to the outfit that covers the whole face apart from their eyes. I don’t believe you should be allowed into banks etc where we are not allowed to wear helmets covering the face
Yes! Ask them point blank, do they 'respect' Christianity! The semantics would be hilarious if the situation was not so serious. I honestly think that God will deal with this madness (i.e. read invasion), and send a plague of Biblical proportions upon the adherents of the religion of peace. And it will happen globally, everywhere. Just my thoughts, and thank you Douglas Murray!
At my daughter's school, young girls were allowed to wear all this headgear, even in the gym. I'm sure if this headgear had got caught up in the gym equipment, there would be uproar from the misguided parents. Incidentally, no other girl is allowed to wear even a small pair of earrings, for safety reasons. Are we pandering or what?
Just separate men and women Gym. In my college( It’s an Islamic country), in the Gym, men and women are separated by a partition. I heard a lot of incidents in the Gym, many incidents of rape, indecency, accusations were happening( particularly about women accusing men, staring at them, men accusing women wearing indecent clothing). Gym is a space that people do acrobatics and they should be able to do that in peace. It should have been separated in the first place. To answer your question, yes, it is pandering, but it is something that the girl's will be particularly grateful for, education/health or your faith isn’t something that a decent authority should put a person in. In my opinion, the girls should still not be authorized to use dangerous machinery where it could be hazardous and instructed to make sure nothing is hanging(Yes it's possible).
I would like to ask one thing. Will countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran etc allow White ppl to wear shorts and crop tops etc when they visit their countries? I don’t think so.

As a liberated ex-Muslim, i find the real irony being that these and other women who share their views exploit the virtues and freedoms of British democracy to openly practice, propagate and express their religious allegiance to an ideology, the law of which, if they had their way, would replace the existing constitution and remove many of the freedoms they have exploited to argue their case.

The U.K. colonised half of the world and did what they wanted in the countries they colonised. The U.K. professes its a secular and democratic country, well these people aren’t telling you how to dress or live your live so shut up and get on with your life.
@@PsyOps404 It is a perfectly natural response to feel wary of people wearing niqab and want it banned because it makes the person wearing it anonymous - it hides their identity to everyone interacting with them. The same cannot be said for the hijab, you can still see the person's face. If niqab was banned, UK would still be one of the best countries for religious freedom. Compare to other countries like Islamic ones, in Saudi Arabia you can't practice any other religion except Islam publicly and other religious buildings such as Christian churches are banned. Overall point, UK is secular and there is big religious freedom - however, there must be balance and if most of the population feels unsafe because of the niqab then it is perfectly acceptable for it to be banned.
As I understand it, there is nothing in the Quran about it. It was decreed some years ago by some Mullah or something and has become part of their culture. Give them a freedom to wear niqab - but only at home. Not in the street. In the street the face and the facial expression has to be visible. It is 90% of communication.
Ironically only at home they do not wear the Hizab. Also who are you to allow or disallow what a woman should wear, what she shouldn’t? Also, you are not a police or a security officer, if a security officer asked to see her face, a muslim woman would show her face. Also curious, did you ever felt the need to strip people from their medical mask during Covid? For security reasons ofcaurse.
@afsanaaktar1037 you accused my deaf mother under my comment of racism because she needed to lipread and requested an assistant without a veil, so i want to answer this question about covid masks. The deaf community requested that people serving customers be provided with transparent masks. In some (not enough) instances this was done. Had my mother been alive during that time and could not see through a mask to lipread she would have requested a person with a transparent mask to serve her if possible, and if it was not possible she would have been unable to communicate, just as she was when faced with an assistant wearing a veil. That would have happened regardless of the race of the person. Before you scream racism in all cases try thinking.

+Stars I'm an Atheist, so I find all of these sectarian issues beyond my understanding, but I do realize that religious belief does exist, and it must somehow be managed, until education and access to information will reduce the relative numbers of worshipers. Although in the mean time couldn't devout Muslim woman wear the Hijab? So their bodies could be completely covered, with just the face showing.
+Darcy Houston That's because as a liberal person, you don't like symbols of oppression. The niqab is an expression of the same mentality that punishes women for being raped.

What is so interesting to me about this subject is that many countries around the world where Muslims are immigrating to are having difficulty with the Muslims integrating into the cultures they have chosen and asked to be a part of but fail to consider that culture and do nothing to ease their own way, or the way of the citizens of that country. In short, they have no consideration for the culture they are asking to belong to and expect instead to be accommodated. This is why so many countries are now slamming their doors shut to Muslims and even deporting them. They must consider that their way of being is very foreign to non-Muslim cultures and it is they who must adapt, not the citizens of the countries that are allowing them in.

Its a great opportunity to redesign the muslim women's dresses. For an example we just saw the Nigerian women in the news recently who are Muslim and they dress beautifully they are well covered, most of them are. Their hair is wrapped up. They certainly are dressing modestly and I think it's lovely. The clothes are designed not to reveal the woman's shape and from head to toe they are covered. They're not wearing a tent when they can be carrying all kinds of stuff underneath it with their arms hidden. It's not about being Muslim it's about the burqa.
The people who wear the burqa are muslim so if you have something against that then you do have a problem against muslims. Anyone can carry a weapon the stereotype of muslims are terrorists has brainwashed you, our religion teaches us not to harm people so do not speak about muslims in a derogatory way talking about 'tent'.
Wearing a niqab is against face to face communication, its repressive to women whether they choose or not to wear it in such circumstances and is basically anti British. It’s also something I regret and am offended at because it goes counter to these communication ideals of British people. You can’t know if someone is smiling for example or other body language. I also find it an expression of hiding and actually shutting down ones personality. I would not ban it, but certainly at work, in schools, courts, banks and public and private places it should not be allowed and be discouraged and it should be ok for restaurants or supermarkets to ask people to take it off eg for cctv camera and public safety purposes etc, free of fear of any discrimination. It should be for everyone else to discourage it and not run lines between our culture where we have enough problems already.
Why do you feel that you need to know if someone is smiling some people might smile and sucker punch you would that be alright ?, I mean at least you saw the smile and not the action that followed it
Agreed, but I’ve seen a lot of these sort of overseas programs where not only does the interviewer interrupt the very person they’re interviewing, but the entire panel does this as well. All parties interrupt, talk over each other, or by knowingly taking up too much time when stating their opinion.
Why bother trying, it's not as if they make any effort to communicate with us. They prefer it that way, but point taken, in our society covering your face is a sign you have something to hide.
So you can read words on paper and on phone right? You can understand nodding yes and no right? Why would you wanna see a girl face that you don’t know and make her feel uncomfortable meanwhile you had other available options? This is not an excuse i can pull my phone up and tell you the answer, just like i did now.. as long as British girls are welcomed in middle east without being told to cover up because we respect people’s rights and freedom so you should too people, let us live in peace instead of making big deal about wanting to see our face for “life or death reasons” yall are so sick, i can literally change my face with make up why isn’t make up banned tho??
I completely agree with Douglas Murray. He is very articulate. Please recall the studies done during, and still going on regarding damage done during covid. A great deal of damage was done to young and middle aged children during covid when we were all masked and babies/toddlers/children were held back socially and emotionally not developing normally when they couldn't view facial expressions, especially mother's expressions to their children. Please respect the British customs. Wear your Niqab in the Middle East and other countries in Africa etc. with large Muslim populations. I would/do respect your customs in your countries.
I happened upon this video by chance. This was 10 years ago. I do not think multiculturalism has worked out well for Western society. Since there have been quite a few Jihadist incidents in Western cities, I would venture to say many people who are not Muslim would be frightened if they saw a person wearing a full burka a hajib and a niqab with only their eyes visible. This might work well for Muslim women in traditional Muslim countrues where this type of dress is the norm, but not in mainstream Western society. Whatever happened to When in Rome do as the Roman's do? I think respecting the norms of a society puts the majority of the people more at ease. Furthermore, as far as schools are concerned, educators found that certain types of garb are distractinfg to the students and incite behavioral problems. Hence, uniforms for students are now becoming more of the norm.
Multiculturalism. That's what people all go back to... This is a religious issue Multiculturalism refers to (1) the state of a society or the world in which there exists numerous distinct ethnic and cultural groups seen to be politically relevant; and (2) a program or policy promoting such a society.
what?? you really said that? what a ridicolous opinion. you should see, just compare it between a woman who wear niqab being fully covered and a woman that shows most of her skin, her body. who would you see as a woman with no sense of shameful? a woman should be concern at what she's wearing. if you learning something about Islam, you're gonna know how to dress properly. yes. wearing a niqab (veil) is not mandatory, it's sunnah, but it's part of the act of worship for muslim women.

I think the biggest issue is that in Western culture we read mannerisms, facial expressions and this forms either trust or no trust between people. I myself watch how people interact with others and their behaviour before interacting with them and barring this will decide whether or not I wish to engage. This is how I am in general with all humans and this is why others don’t feel comfortable interacting with a black sheet and a voice, we need interaction where we can see a person. This is not what it means to be human, we are born naked - we should be feeling the sun on our skin, we should be able to smell the fresh air and to be able to swim in the ocean and lie on grass with nature on our bodies. It's incredible how British muslim women like to defend their choice to wear the burqa by arguing its about freedom of expression, when muslim women in countries where freedom of expression is not protected may face extreme and violent abuse for not being covered.
It is not at all incredible. They are brainwashed to support and promote Islam and its expansion before everything else. If we today talk about nazism, fascism or communism, do we invite exponents of these totalitarian ideologies to talk about how great they are. My grandaughter was taken for her first introduction to the primary school of her neighbourhood...in Glasgow's South Side. The headteacher was a woman in a niquab...( many Muslims live in this particular area, and generally are well enough integrated into its society, and well liked..providing many local services)For my granddaughter ,her first meeting with the staff(she also met her P1 teacher...also in a niquab) lThe child was actually traumatised. She cried incessantly and refued all communication with the two women. She hadvto be allocated a placement farther from her home.It was accepted that, while the teaching staff had a perfect right to dress as they chose to dress...our granddaughter had the right ,of necessity,to have HER social norms respected, also. The school involved in this incident now has a wholly Muslim composition. Is this REALLY what we need...separation ,instead of integration? Wilfully ADDING exclusive garments is quite simply EXCLUSIVE ...and can NEVER promote an INCLUSIVE society...unless we force the majority to ALSO adopt the exclusive garment. The logic is plain. Therefore argument is pointless.
If one chooses to live in the UK, one should accept the norms and customs of the UK or go live elsewhere. These women are welcome to work in Islamic schools and dress this way in their own communities, but in the greater UK, they should respect the culture that exists and will continue to exist despite their efforts to radically change the country.
Do Moslem want an integrated society or do they immigrate too start a pure Moslem community with schools, mosques and Shariah law until they become the majority? Isn't there aim world domination so that the Mahdi/Twelfth Imaam can arrive? Just asking for a friend.
In Afghanistan woman are banned from showing their faces or speaking in public. I want to be a part of a culture of freedom. No one should be banned from wearing a Niqab if it is their choice to. (with the exception of places like; courts of law, hospitals, police etc. where it is important to be able to see someone's face to establish trust etc.) I think the issue lies with the fact that it is perceived as being a tool of the oppression of women and a form of othering and keeping people at bay. A woman should have the freedom to make the choice for herself without persecution from her religion, family, or public. Freedom of choice is the main point.
This was not the norm 20 years ago. Yasmin is right, this has been imported very recently for political reasons. It is not a requirement in Islam, and not worn by the majority worldwide. Also wearing a turban, headscarf etc. is not the same as the niqab. It's common sense. Covering the face is a barrier. And if a man wore a balaclava, he would be stopped and searched. We live in a secular society. Rules have to be fair for everyone. Many Muslims have also spoken out and said the niqab is a barrier to society. The headscarf/ hijab, is worn by other cultures and religions, from Roma to Nuns.
I see no issue with hijab or turbans or other types of hair/head coverings, it's just something about the face being covered. I don't think it should be illegal or anything, I just think it's ridiculous to act like it's not oppressive to women. We use our faces to communicate so much... And the obnoxious guy is right, your face is your calling card, it's how others recognize you
Exactly. People aren't allowed to wear a balaclava in public but somehow, radical fundamentalists of a marginal sect get preferential treatment. In a secular democracy everyone should be equal to the law
For whatever reasons Muslim women defend wearing the Niqab, the same reasons should apply to the men also. But we don't see Muslim men wearing covering their faces do we? That is because these laws were framed by men and women are considered their private property.
I'm muslim and i know the Quran doen not state cover your face yet alone your hair aswell... those outside hadiths are man made.. women like this is what makes islam unattractive.
But since literally every part of a woman's body turns a Muslim man into a raving sex maniac, she has to cover up from her hair to her toenails. Got it. I think we see where the problem actually lies.
No you can’t because in our religion this is disrespectful and effects on the people’s peace when it doesn’t you the same situation in your country or religion
I wonder if you and all the 52 people who like your comment changed their minds after covid. While we where wearing a mask, we where perfectly capable of communicating. The only people I can see being affected by a niqab are deaf people because they might need to lip read.
To my knowledge, no one ever complained that wearing a beanie down to your eyebrows and a scarf covering your nose was a threat to people's security. Why exactly is the niqab any different ?
I worked in Saudi Arabia for 18 years from 1985 to 2003 and in that country covering the face for Muslim women was mandatory. When flying back to Europe I saw women remove their covering and get ready for life in the western world. Face covering was required in Saudi Arabia at that time because of cultural rules. Women could not show their face to any man who it was possible for them to marry. In Saudi Arabia now they have relaxed that rule from what I can see. I have talked to Islamic Religious scholars and have been told that covering the face with the Niqab is not a requirement but covering the head with the hijab is. In Islam today all that is required regarding head and shoulders is the Hijab. Countries like Iran and Afghanistan require Niqab or even the Burqa. In my view the western world should not allow the wearing of the Niqab. There are many reasons for this, the main one being communication. The western world is used to seeing the face of a person when talking to that person. I would say that if you want to wear the Niqab where it is not controversial then go live in Saudi Arabia.
Most (honest) scholars agree, as it's written in the Quran, that hijab is not mandatory. It was a policy created by the Prophet to distinguish free from enslaved women and protect the former from rape/harassment back then; a woman would wear it if she wished to protect her honour, as it'd indicate to potential aggressors that she had those who'd defend it. It slowly became incorporated into the culture/traditions/costumes and the muslim identity, its wearing associated with a woman's character/high morals, but no, it's not religiously mandatory, only a social recommendation. As to the wealthy women in Saudi Arabia and other muslim majority and/or theocratic countries, it is true, most only wear hijab there and behave like Westeners the moment they step into Europe or North America. Publicly at least, because that already happens a lot within their private social spaces; they throw parties and even drink and/or smoke. They would be the first to "unveil" in their homelands if it didn't put them at risk. Many muslim countries like Iran, Egypt, and Afghanistan already lived that reality in the 50's and 60's. You see old photos of women walking the streets in skirts above the knees and bikinis at the beach, with short bee hive hair. If it wasn't for European and North American political interference in the region in the 70's, these places would look quite differently than they do today. With modernisation and social media, today's youth there is rebelling again against the norms. In and on itself, there's nothing wrong with the hijab; personally, I don't mind Al-Amira or Shayla, but others styles are truly physically restricting for women and social interaction, and by far extrapolate the Quran's recommendation. The real problem though is when it's imposed. And it HAS been not only in muslim countries, but closed muslim communities within Western secular countries, without any basis other than cultural and/or misogynistic.
@@manuandrade2484 Islam has been corrupted by extremists, this is another example . It paints islam as a cruel and barbaric religion. That's all western culture .Its drivel all of it , as far as I see.

But for those women who wear the face veil in this country live and work here therefore should be allowed to exercise their human rights and use their religious freedoms. They are not harming anyone and they should be allowed. In addition, it only adds to the cultural diversity makeup of Britain and should be celebrated rather than something to be opposed to.

This is a religious issue
Multiculturalism refers to (1) the state of a society or the world in which there exists numerous distinct ethnic and cultural groups seen to be politically relevant; and (2) a program or policy promoting such a society.

It is not at all incredible. They are brainwashed to support and promote Islam and its expansion before everything else. It should be banned in all places in Britain
Nope
World.
In all western countries...
It should be banned except in their own country. Period.
Completely agree. This shouldnt be allowed in a British school.
NO SUCH CLOTHING SHOULD BE WORN !
Совершенно с Вами согласна!
People who wear Turbans I have no problem with, they are respectful
Ya Islam is darkness. They told them to control the nonbelievers
In a secular democracy everyone should be equal to the law
true
For whatever reasons Muslim women defend wearing the Niqab, the same reasons should apply to the men also. But we don't see Muslim men wearing covering their faces do we? That is because these laws were framed by men and women are considered their private property.
I'm muslim and i know the Quran doen not state cover your face yet alone your hair aswell... those outside hadiths are man made.. women like this is what makes islam unattractive.
+Emma E your right
+Emma E not ever Muslim agrees with the veil
I agree, I think the Koran basically says something that translates to cover your sexual parts, something like that.
But since literally every part of a woman's body turns a Muslim man into a raving sex maniac, she has to cover up from her hair to her toenails. Got it. I think we see where the problem actually lies.

most communication is non-verbal, but most of that non-verbal is facial.
also, full coverings are a major security risk.
The hijab is not a religious requirement either : it's nowhere in the Coran... Just invented by men to make women lower living beings
I have seen this as well.

It's funny how Westerners are expected to respect the culture of countries they visit, so women who visit Saudi Arabia must cover up when out of the compound, but the reverse is not true for those who come to Western countries.
ikr, it baffles me mate
Majority of these women did not 'come to this country' they were BORN here and they belong here. They are not visiting or on holiday. This country is theirs so they will dress the way they want.
But im assuming youve been to saudi and wore the niqab the whole trip ? LOL
Westerners are expected to respect the culture of other countries as it is the only polite and to ignore this and refuse to be educated is ignorant.
