There is no backlash from anyone that ever cared about Seinfeld. And he is not wrong that Comedy used to be a lot looser and made for the people who wanna have a good time and laugh. And if one or two people got offended nobody gave a shit. But nowadays there is social media where offended people get together and make enough of a noise to where it seems like they have a point. But they don't. They just have a public platform now. That's the only difference.
Broad comedies on network TV are very rare nowadays. The shows Jerry listed -- Cheers, All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore -- were broad comedies drawing tens of millions of viewers per episode. Those don't exist any more. _Big Bang Theory_ cracked 20M at one time, but alas, was not funny. There are still funny shows (on streaming), but they're targeted toward their niche. There are still drama series that are big enough to be cultural "events", but not so much for comedies anymore.
He is not wrong. And you broke the context of his comment on Current television by stretching back twenty years since Seinfeld was on. And also Curb dosent count in this equation because you need a subscription.
Jerry does have a point-this "host" only mentioned 1 show on network TV Abbot Elementary -ABC-the rest are on streaming services-can not watch any of the shows Jerry mentioned as they "offend" people-and probably can not be made today-may watch Jerry's movie-or not
Hate to break it to you but there isn't anything like back when friends or Seinfeld was on. They suck now. I cancelled my cable because it got so boring.
I don't watch National tv but I do stream lots of good programing. Schitt's Creek. Only Murders In The Building, Ted Lasso, Shrinking. All have raw humor. These are classic shows
There are plenty of great stand ups getting it done right now. Jerry’s just cranky. He’s never been that funny. Larry David was the real secret in that sauce.
I don’t find Jerry funny, am not a Seinfeld fan by any means, think the guy is an obnoxious arse but I agree with his take on the extreme woke sjws who take issue with everything and can’t accept that a joke is joke.
Larry David is thriving in this generation and he's older than Jerry. He's bitter and irrelevant. I love when the anti work people out themselves..We need to know who to mock for their ignorance.
I adore Jerry Seinfeld, but, Graham you are spot on with this one. Jerry has publicly stated SO many times that he doesn't even watch anything except for sports (baseball) and news (i think?), so he's for sure the least qualified to assess the current state of comedy in movies and on tv.
Not sure if you are bothered because Jerry is against "wokeness" or if it is because he insulted TV shows that you seem to like. I have seen several episodes of Abbott Elementary and Ted Lasso, and both are poorly written and are certainly unfunny. They have that annoying "quirky" humor that is trendy nowadays that again, is not funny. I don't care if this is due to stuff being too PC, I just know they are crap. I can't comment on the other 3 shows you mentioned as I haven't seen them. I also think "Friends" is garbage as is The Big Bang Theory and alot of other shows that were popular back in the day. I don't understand why people liked that crap. Bored and lonely? What was funny? Community was the best thing for years, especially the 1st 2 seasons. It went off the deep end in season 3 although there were alot of great moments and it was still really funny. Truth is the "meta-ness" made it become a caricature of itself in a way. Of course seasons 3 through 8 of the Simpsons is the best comedy TV to come out yet. Seinfeld had its moments but it had alot of weaknesses too. It was too 1 dimensional to be great in my opinion.. and too slapstick and it got really silly in the end. It had alot of great moments though. It seems to me that the funny stuff in Seinfeld was mainly the LArry David humor. The less funny stuff was the Seinfeld humor. When Larry David left the show, it pretty much drowned. 3rd Rock from the Sun was good, King of the Hill had some good stuff. Arrested Development pre Netflix was funny although it got pretty silly. Most TV is trash, but people like what they like. When I watch TV nowadays, I am mainly watching the news and "non-fiction" stuff PBS because I can't find anything else. I don't have cable so I have limited access to cable stuff.
Jerry has done a great job in comedy but he's so full of himself when he thinks that his opinions and experiences are the same for others. He forgets that he's one man and there are billions of other experiences besides his own. All the best to him!
He's earned the authority he speaks with now. Society and American Culture needs his voice to push back on Leftist extremism which has been sucking the funny out of Comedy for many years now. Glad he's bringing criticism where it's due. Those who value Freedom, Art, and true Diversity would appreciate his opinion here.
Non-stop mid tier jokes with the whole movie shot like it was a commercial, in other words, high effort directing/shooting. I probably wouldn't watch it again, but it wasn't bad. I just didn't like the Jack LeLane stuff.
The whole point of the movie is for viewers like you to dislike it, Jerry even said himself that he looks forward to reading the horrible reviews for the movie.
Jerry needs to first look in the mirror and then head back to the drawing board. I watched *_Unfrosted_* last night. It's simply horrible. Not even remotely funny. One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. It's embarrassing. No wonder it's not being promoted. Garbage in garbage out, even with a stellar cast.
Jerry just can't undo that statement. I heard him speak against Liberal policy before and he's just playing the idiot person playing victim. He knows not what he's talking about.
Going to see him tonight - so thankful for his anti-wokeness. Everyone should take note

Isn't he the guy who refused ke$ha hug?
Wasn't Ke$ha just one of those one-hit wonders?
Jerry didn't know who Kesha was. And neither would I. I wouldn't be able to pick Kesha out of a police lineup.
What about conservative backlash. Nobody ever talks about that.
Back in the 80's it was talked about. Not now.
Woke / Leftist backlash has been going on now for yearssss....
The liberal media would never give an outlet/voice for conservative backlash

Speaking of Kelly Clarkson when is she gonna do double duty Hosting and Singing on SNL?

Stupid analyses that takes us nowhere…
And? This guy talks incredibly too fast!

Can someone please explain all this recent backlash of Seinfeld? I honestly don't understand it.
Unsubscribing now, these commentaries aren't very entertaining
I saw him on Kelly's show. He looks great and fun interview.
Funny in a 'FUNNY' way! I still liked it and would watch it again!
Hate to break it to you but there isn't anything like back when friends or Seinfeld was on. They suck now. I cancelled my cable because it got so boring.
Too much press. So very relatable.
Bonza living the dream 😂😂😂😂😂❤😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Clever move on his publicists part, I think. Also, is it just me, or does anyone else have a challenge trying to hear this host through the mumbling?
I don't watch National tv but I do stream lots of good programing. Schitt's Creek. Only Murders In The Building, Ted Lasso, Shrinking. All have raw humor. These are classic shows
Jerry has had a sudden politcal awakening in his old age now that people are finally getting hip to Our Greatest Ally.
Going on SNL didn’t help him. I’ve heard him speak I’ll of Dem thoughts. Don’t like him
There are plenty of great stand ups getting it done right now.

Comedy Sucks these days - regardless what you think...
Seinfeld made The Bee Movie, that The Far Right would call PC/Woke for the environmental message.
Can NEVER GET ENOUGH of JERRY !!!! GO JERRY!!!!!! (( I'm serious!! ))🥰
Abbott and jury Duty are mildly funny, OMITB and Ted Lasso are terrible.
Larry David is thriving in this generation and he's older than Jerry. He's bitter and irrelevant. I love when the anti work people out themselves..We need to know who to mock for their ignorance.

Jerry is one of my top favs….but his arrogance (and ignorance) works for him..that’s his schtick!! (Hope that’s still PC to say 😂)

@@machtnichtsseimann I'm curious, what's true diversity?
People give him a hard time for no reason the movie was very good for what Netflix has to offer was better than fall guy cringe crap or barbie
Did anyone watch unfrosted ? ……. In my opinion not very funny .
Non-stop mid tier jokes with the whole movie shot like it was a commercial, in other words, high effort directing/shooting.

Boo boo he’s pissed because his movie is terrible and unfunny and people are calling out his hypocrisy
Jerry just can't undo that statement. I heard him speak against Liberal policy before and he's just playing the idiot person playing victim. He knows not what he's talking about.
Fair dinkum unbelivable 😂😂😂❤😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
