A 4 way reaming job on a vintage lathe

- I shot a reaming job on my vintage Karger lathe, using 4 camera's at the same time.
I think it came out OK, although it's certainly is not perfect. Next time will be better :) - Развлечения
It was an interesting exercise in camera angles, as well as showing the aggravation we all face with auto-focus!
Good job doing the B roll footage. Gives the story some context.
Thanks Mark. I only recently learned the meaning of the word B-Roll :)
Really interesting seeing how you set the cameras... thank you...
glad you liked that :)
Well RM that was wonderful dialogue and some excellent videography! 👍 And we might have missed the fart if you hadn’t mentioned it 🤣 Hey thanks for putting all of the extra effort into bringing us this wonderful video! You will have it all figured out in no time.
thanks. It was a practise video, but I will try some more mulicam setups in the future.
Not hearing that VFD squeal is still such a pleasant thing.
Hardly any harmonic noises at these slow rpm's
I already gave it a Thumbs Up and I haven't even watched it yet.
It's O.K. to press thumbs down now and then :)
Oh, the hell with RUclips. I'm subscribed, and this only just showed up on my feed.
Thrilling stuff!
For something that's designed to make a concentric hole, it's surprising how out of round the non-functional part of the shank of the reamer is.
The shanks of them Chinesium reamers are like eccentrics :)
b.t.w. youtube only notifies a random amount of people. The way I see it there is no need to hit that bell notification icon.
I have missed your bids, glad your back
There will be more... some day :)
so much effort, appreciate it
More preparation and editing than machining and filming :)
Four camera's for one hole, you're going big.
One day, after a computer upgrade, I will try 5 :)
@@Rolingmetal Your saying my penitum 3 500 with 96mb of ram wont handle rendering this?
It might. You should try and make a video about it, could be a long one :)
@@Rolingmetal HAHAHAHA, ill see you next decade.
I'm just saying, Yaayy to this video before I watch it because I was really waiting for another one from you lol now I watch haha
I'll try and make some new rolingmetal material soon.
Dude, you got a winning combination there.
I freakin' love that. I especially appreciate that extra overhead shot.
I get a good view of your set up and the top of your lathe plus a better view of the movement on the top slide.
Well done my man!
I laughed when you announced you farted too.
I might make it a thing. Machining videos on a tripod are a bit boring to be honest.
You actually barely hear that fart on camera :)
Great job on the views. I do believe that was the longest ream on you tube too.
Long Time old boy!
Yeah sorry, I would love to make new content but health issue keep me from spending a whole lot of time in that cold barn.
@@Rolingmetal get better soon - I’ll keep scrounging in the woods for more wires and motors (Jeff streak)
Epic! Loved it
It was fun to do :)
That took a lot to set up and even more to edit. Good work.
Reaming finish is probably poor though. But that was purely something to film.
Yeah, that's right. More setup and editing than reaming :) But it was good practise.
It's hard enough with one camera !
It can be a bit confusing :)
Maybe try a setup using manual focus for us review.
I still need to do a video with the old olympus manual lens.
So, yes. I will give that a go one day.
we haven't heard of you in 4 months are you ok I've been waiting to see you again if you are ok I'll be nice to see some more your shows you put on I find them very interesting
Just read some of the replies you made I hope you get well soon looking forward to hearing from you
yeah, I'm having some health issue but I hope to make a strong comeback :) I've been testing/practising on my RolingRandom channel. Thanks for checking in :)
@@Rolingmetal cannot wait until you get back on your channel I only have certain people I really enjoy watching I enjoyed watching Mr scrappity so god bless you and get well soon
@@Rolingmetal Hope you don't have covid:(
No covid, but a serious vitamin D shortage can really mess you up :( But I'm getting better day by day and hope to make a strong comeback :) If you missed me you could watch my practise channel RolingRandom
Just a thought, how about publishing a videos with the 4 cameras, but use the split screen method, so we can view all the cameras at the same time.
I will have to try that one day.
You asked if you succeeded ..
Would have been even better if the sky camera was rotated 180°
Everything would have been Left to Right for continuity.
The double XXit was nearly Right to left too but not so distracting.
I tried flipping the video in the editor and it looks weird to me.
Probably because I'm looking at the video with my position behind the top slide in mind.
The audio in the first 1 min or so only appeared to be in the left channel.
Really like the side view, very cool. The focus issue is undoubtedly fixable.
The voice over was recorded on my 10 dollar Chinese microphone.
It's mono and not the best quality. I did mix in some room noise, like a pro :)
I haven't seen anything from you in many months mate, I hope everything is ok with you?
Sorry about that, I got some medical issue that keep me out of the barn these days :(
@@RolingmetalI was worried that covid19 had gotten to you. I hope you get better soon mate 👍
I would have preferred covid-19 :)
👍
Yeah you still living
Still around ;)
But did it smell?
not really. The turd the cat left in the corner on the barn was a lot worse :)
it sounds like you are wearing wooden clogs, what shoe sound is that?
Good hearing :) tinyurl.com/y3l2l5mr (my old set)
@@Rolingmetal This video literally had me laughing harder than anything I've seen in a while. Keep it up! I really love your sense of humor.
Mooi hoor!
Nou niet weer zo lang op je laten wachten he?!
Ik zal mijn best doen om nieuw materiaal te maken.
You were juggling a lot to bring us the coverage. Juggling more than the 3 cam shoot, and despite the increased difficulty I think this one was better overall in terms of trying to push your personal production boundaries. This one did have less action and more coverage than the 3 cam, but that's okay. I say lose the zoom effect, and keep cutting to another angle only when there is something to see. Every time the angle changes we have to readjust our mental focus to retake in all the information we're seeing on screen. If there is no pay off in the form of seeing some new action happen when we readjust to a new perspective, then the change of angle becomes a distracting visual annoyance. Your insert shots are always nice (The VFD display, the on/off switch etc), and they perfectly illustrate the notion of us seeing new information worthy of cutting away from the main shot. Keep chipping away at it. Once you have it perfected it's going to up your whole game several steps. :)
I agree, I will ease of on the digital zoom effect. And I dope to get better with some practise :)
@@Rolingmetal It's cool to know that you can do the zoom though. You're already getting better. :)
"4 way reaming job." Demonetized!
Demonetized, probably because I farted on camera :)
Don't worry about the fart, smell o vision is not a youtube feature yet.
You were feeding the reamer rather slowly weren't you?
Smell o vision never caught on :)
I thought the reamer should be used even slower.
I did have to check the focus tracking now and then.
@@Rolingmetal general rule of thumb for reamer half the speed and twice the feed you would use for a drill.
A boring shot! HA!
Yeah! And youtube picked it :)
I still need to make a new thumbnail. It's rather annoying haw important a good thumbnail is for the success of a video.
wtf is this??? Where is the blood? Where is the shit show we come to love and expect???
I have to say this is the first video from you I just didnt enjoy watching
That's unfortunately. What in particular didn't you like? Maybe the next one will be better :)
@@Rolingmetal well the new intro is very cool, but I am not a fan of the crazy multi camera shots, that just takes away the machining for me too much and makes it harder to watch the video I think
And what is you thought about picture in picture? Maybe have the overhead cam sitting in a pip windows and sometimes switching to full screen. I'm not going for a 4 cam setup everytime. But I will probably use it now and then for some machining scenes. One camera on a tripod is rather boring in my opinion.
@@Rolingmetal I liked the one camera tripod videos, but at the end I thing the most important thing is stil what the video is about
This was a video about nothing, like Seinfeld :) (editing practise)
