I was a teenage alcoholic and the disease progressed for 35 years until I finally had a breakdown but still didn't get sober until 47 years old! Wasted my whole life. For anyone seeking recovery, don't give up....help is out there and gosh is it a great life!!! ❤ I'm 3 years sober and never going back again!!! ❤

Keep that up girl. I've been an alcoholic too, I guess. Just because you don't drink every day doesn't mean you're not one. I used to drink and not being able to stop at the right time. It always had to go on until oblivion. I stopped from one day to the next. It happened through pure fear. I was 47 and my dad was diagnosed with Parkinsons desease. One night I was f*cked up, also been smoking some pot. Then it hit me: if I get a phonecall tonight that my dad has been taken to the hospital, I'll not even be able to stand up straight. Let alone attend. That created such anxiety that I stopped drinking.13 years ago. I have had a few drinks since than, but somehow it doesn't do anything for me anymore. Just makes me tired and cranky. My first drink this year will probably be half a glass of champagne at New Years Eve...
What I'm trying to say is: there are many, many forms and shapes of alcohol abusus. I've been to rehab four times, due to combination of tranquillizers and alcohol. But that thing about my father did it.

I was always able to freely admit I was an alcoholic. Me and my friends were brutally self-aware, but we didn't care, didn't take it seriously. Made a joke of it. We'd stock the apartment full of booze and say: "Welcome to alcoholism." I drank like a fish from ages 14 to 34. Just drank copious volumes of liquor like it was water. My parents were alcoholics who fought all the time, After all the insane car accidents, some of my friends deaths due to alcohol and drugs, losing a 2 and half year girlfriend that I lived with (the only real relationship/girlfriend I ever had) because of my alcoholism, all the jobs I lost, the people I wronged, and a mountain of legal problems that my drinking caused, I finally quit drinking 2 years ago. Hands down the best thing I ever did for myself. I'm still putting my life back together after all the damage. Quitting drinking doesn't make your life easier, but it sure as hell makes it a lot more manageable. If I can quit, anyone can.

Did you get any damage from it ? From 14 to 34 ?! Holy lord... You probably had shaky hands in the morning right ? You could have died if stopped cold turkey.
And did you drink from 14 to 34 EVERY SINGLE DAY?! hope not... And when you say copious like water, how much ? 20 liters per day ? Did you drink until passing out ?
And I'm so proud of you!!!

@@emnemnem1889 Thankyou so much Em. I think I may have liver damage. I did drink everyday or damn near everyday for all those years like someone looking to die. I drank at least a 750 ML of Jameson everyday on top of cases of beer. I would drink myself into blackouts all the time, and when I was blacked-out, I was a crazy fucker. I had black out rage issues. I once sent a dude who started a fight with me to the emergency room with every bone in his face broken, and his eyeball was dangling out of his face by it's cord. It was hands down the worst ass-whooping I've ever seen anyone take. I don't even remember beating him. He started a fight with me in my own house tho...so that's one example of my black-rage. The biggest reason I quit drinking is how angry and depressed I became when drunk. I was a hurting guy who had alot of childhood truama I wasn't dealing with in a healthy way. I promise I'm a nice guy, and don't drink anymore. So that's behind me.
The few, and I mean few times I have drank any alcohol in the last 2 years. I had one drink and I got a horrible migraine for several hours afterwards. Like head on fire, someone drilling into my eyeballs with a power drill migraine. So I think my liver is shot. A migraine can be an indication of a serious underlying health issue. I did quit cold turkey. I took Kratom everyday to counteract my alcohol withdrawals. Kratom really helped me.

@@micahrutland991 Oh my... You're very strong keep it up!
In my case, I'm just a 20 years old girl whose parents are (thankfully normal) but still surrounded by many drunks, such as my uncle, two cousins, another aunt, another cousin and a close friend of mine. Recently she (my friend) had lost her job bcz her health couldn't allow her to work any longer. She has fatigue, and is sick all the time hence instead of medications she numbs it with booze. She wasn't fired, but she just physically can't work anymore. Just like you she started early. At 15. She's been drinking for 19 years and she doesn't want to quit cuz of depression, fear of withdrawals etc (at least she was honest w me)
She actually has an ulcer, a mild hepatitis with gastritis and still this doesn't make her want to quit. Idk what to do anymore. Even when my boyfriend tried to talk to her it was useless. I feel worried for her. Since her job loss she's been spending her time wasted 24/7 (sthg she never did cuz she would always wait for work to end to drink) she's a teacher btw.
She's been waking up heck knows where, at random times and everyday I'm worried. Nothing happened yet but she could get hit by a car, choke on her own vomit or heck knows what. Yeah idk what to do...

This movie is so accurate. It was so easy to drink in the 70s and 80s, as a preteen, teenager. My parents had parties almost every weekend and drank all of the time. I was so easy to sneak alcohol without them knowing. I became addicted to alcohol and finally quit it altogether when I turned 33. My parents are in their late 70s and still drink dally. Some of us took the warning and others didn't. I was in a similar situation until 1992, when I quit drinking. My whole late teens to young adult life was a blur. Ahhh, pay phones before cell phones. I miss those. I was born 1972...
Watching this has me recall back to the eighties, when we actually had to try out for something. I'll never forget trying out for chorus in the end of my sixth grade year. I sang Lionel Richies Song " Hello" .
. Is it me your looking for ( I still remember it word for word ) Anyway, my name was on the paper taped to the chorus door. I was surprised actually. SO I was in Chorus when I began the seventh grade.
My daughter who is a junior in college now, all she had to do was sign up for Chorus when she was in High School. I would say.. " You know, back in my day, we actually had to try out...Lol
I tell you though they had an excellent Chorus when she in High School. I loved watching those precious young people perform. ( I turn 51 next month, and time just flies by ) I apologize for my rambling.

I think she believes this is her true legacy and her films are proof of how hard she worked since an early age, and that work is now there for generations to come, even of after she's no longer with us. That's simply my goal as a writer/actor, but it doesn't define who I am. Blair is very smart for she's used her fame, her work to fund her true calling and passion, the Linda Blair Foundation. We were known at "stoner's" back then. If I could turn back the hands of time, I would have never started any of that back then, because it only led me to addiction that was so destructive. I'm not even happy with the fact I became clean and sober in 2019 relieved yes, happy, no. There are so many other ways to deal with issues that lead to addiction.

If you're certain you ARE an alcoholic and are ready to face up to it, then you can save yourself the misery that is sure to follow. Go to an AA meeting. You'll find someone like yourself there, I promise. He/she could even be your "sponsor", who will guide you through the "12 Steps" to recovery. Remember, just "One Day at a Time", no more. My cousin was that way and still is. Back when we were 15 16 years old, we would get a case of beer, and always we ran out, even with only three of us drinking it. I'd get maybe 4 beers out of it. This happened all the time, and I noticed it was when Dan was drinking with us. My Mom asked me one day to come into the living room. She said, "Look at this and lifted up a chair in the living room. Hidden in the springs of the chair were about ten cans of now warm beer. Mom said, "There's where all the beer is going." I asked Dan about it, and he said, "I needed to make sure I got my share. Anyway, I gotta go." "Where you going?" I said. He said, "Guy down the street is buying six twelve packs of beer. I go where the beer is." That's when I knew he was alcoholic. He's 64 years old now, and he hasn't gone a day without drinking for decades. Drunk everyday. It's his whole live. I surprised he's still alive. He smokes a pack a day, too. I asked him when was the last time he went a day without at least a 12 pack, and he answered, "I don't remember."

Unfortunately, alcoholism doesn't affect just the alcoholic. It hurts those who care about them. It tears up families & passes down to tear up more family. How many innocent strangers have been the victim of an alcoholic? My heart goes out to all, alcoholic, their families & those who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. I grew up around an alcoholic & at 60 years old I'm still trying to forgive the person who was the alcoholic. Especially as he quit drinking when my favorite person passed away instead of quitting before. Alcoholism doesn't have to continue down the generations & my family is now proof of that. Getting sober is the best thing any alcoholic can do for themselves. Probably the hardest going they will ever do but so very worth it.

I don't understand WHY Linda Blair went from The Exorcist , number one movie in the WORLD - to cheap TV movies ? She should have done what people NOW say to do: If you can't get a lead role in a good movie- take a smaller role in a GREAT movie. But, I guess there were not a lot of roles for gals in that "awkward phase". Again , look at Jodie Foster.

Heavy guns for a movie like this: Pazuzu the Demon, JR Ewing, Luke Skywalker, Mr. Feeney, all directed with a professional hand by the guy who directed Superman The Movie. Blair is actually pretty good as the troubled kid. Trying to break the Exorcist stereotype (only 2 years after that movie). She couldn't really do that, but that wasn't her fault.

    • @emnemnem1889
      @emnemnem1889 6 месяцев назад

And I'm 21 and I relate to this movie on a emotional level. First tried my first drink (passion fruit liquor) at 18, during summer holidays in August after finishing high school and got hooked. I love booze so I stick to tea. Sometimes, I guess, no matter how much willpower you have and how disciplined you are, you can't make yourself hate what you love. It warms me, it makes me happy, I just love booze as much as I love tea. I don't drink for the taste (although I need it to be tasty or at least tolerable) but purposefully to get buzzed or tipsy. For its effects. Even now I still convince myself that I'm just a college student, everybody drinks, I'm normal, etc. But then I find myself SOMETIMES not everyday ofc, putting rum in my orange juice on a morning Saturday before 1pm, at 11 or even 10. I still convince myself that everything is fine, it's okay to want to get tipsy, after all you deserve some gratification for your good grades.
I would go months without a drop but eventually I'll miss it. I would use my cash instead of my credit card so my parents don't find out that I bought a can of mojito desperados and drank it in the city center not to do it at college cuz I wanted to. I'd use concealer to hide my flush, I'd bite my lips before seeing my mom (wind makes your lips blue) I'd drink baileys before bed disguised as cocoa, I'd drink wine straight from my parents' box when my mom was in the garden. I did things I'd have NO courage to tell 'em even today.
Today the weather was very gray and I wanted a drink. I didn't and drank tea instead. Now, imma spend more months without booze. Breaks are necessary because otherwise I know it won't end well.
Some people say : if you wonder whether or not you have a problem. You probably do. I guess... I have one. But to me an alcoholic is someone who has shaky hands in the morning, someone who goes perhaps to meetings, someone who can't stop once they started. So it does not concern me.
Many college students drink, many countries do it on a cultural level. Animals like to get drunk on magnolia flowers or berries.
How the heck am I supposed to abstain from something that I love and that is UNIVERSALLY rooted, legal and normalized???
I believe that booze is one of the many best inventions made by humans. I'm glad it exists. I love my liquor, I do, but I'll never admit it to my family. They believe I drink for the taste.
Sometimes I wish I could find some drinking buddies BUT who are also intellectual people with whom I can have deep talks. Who'd love booze like I do, and we'd call ourselves "alcoholics" as a joke, drink together without judging one another for it.
I just wanna experience this. This young, wild, fresh feeling of being a teenager in her 20s. Who drinks cuz she loves to, without being judged or owing anyone any explanation. After all, I'll never get wasted, I know my limit. I just wanna be half drunk. Enough to be the one to always hold other ppl's hair, to be able to drive.
Instead, I have none to go out with. So I drink secretly alone, sometimes in the garage, hidden without my parents knowing, dancing on some Abba with a bottle of wine.
Then, I also heard people say : drinking alone or with people changes nothing. Social alcoholics are no different from alone drinkers. When you drink to get drunk, just to drink, even with friends, you're isolating yourself. Booze can be a people gatherer like food and music, but it can also isolate.
I guess, having a flirty relationship with booze makes you think. Doubt. Question yourself. Make yourself uncertain. It makes you think a lot.
For now, we're just friends with benefits, who sometimes don't see each other for months.
I'll make sure no to turn it into a love relationship. It's only my responsibility to stay careful and be wise.
      Take care of yourself.
      Lots of love ☺️😘🫶

@@UKImmigrationLawGeek well idk about sober... I still drink on events. Problem is, if I drink on an occasion, I want to keep the fun going the next day...
I had to celebrate graduation from university very recently. I got drunk and happy. No hangover the next morning but little tummy ache. Didn't stop me from drinking the next day.
Didn't drink for 2 weeks and today drank again cuz went to a restaurant. Sadly I had only one glass of Martini... Wanted to drink more but no booze left at home. I told, after finishing my martini, the waiter that I wanted a litchi liquor. He didn't understand and gave me litchi as a dessert... I pretended not to seem disappointed in front of my family but deep down... MAN I DIDN'T ASK FOR THAT LET ME GET DRUNK!!!
ah, coming home mind was full with these thoughts... But nothing in the house. It's crazy how even being completely busy, singing, drawing, reading, there are still glimpses of these obsessive thoughts about booze...
I'm currently drinking water right now... Ofc not happy about it, but hey, it's healthier...
