I am so happy seeing all these people and reading their comments, I first watched this film with my family as a child, I'm 33 years old now and this remains one of my favourite films in the world!
They’re not a couple! Did you even watch the whole movie? Ruth’s ex boyfriend’s little sister became best friend with Ruth nothing else. I do believe that the sister had something toward Ruth though.
Yep! It’s one of mine too! This is the abridged version….without Kathy Bates. Remember her, eating all the chocolates, dressing up for her hubby in cling wrap, working out on her little trampoline! This one was the better version, I believe. I like a movie that makes me cry genuine tears! I also adore Forest Gump and Shawshank Redemption .
A really beautiful story of friendship and loyalty. I love the fact that everyone who knew Idgie and Ruth treated their "black" staff like human beings, even in the midst of the segregation period. They were only human beings sharing a love for one another.
The second the music starts, I wanna cry. I can't count how many times I've watched this movie and still finding new details I've never noticed before !
One of my favourite films and I'm grateful you posted it. It's so wonderful to watch true human beings treating one another with love and respect, thumbing their noses at the prevailing stupidity, nastiness and bigotry --- a balm for the heart. ♥♥♥
Right. I were sobbing and crying when first watching this film in early 90-ties in Polish TV. Nowdays, after reading many accounts what was life for Blacks then in South I see this movie as very late Southern pride propaganda with beautiful memories which are actually far from reality of many thoudsand lynches and ruthless exploitation of Black people.
Apart from the obvious heartbreaking scenes, what makes me again burst into tears is when it’s revealed that when Smokey Lonesome passed, the only thing he had on him was a picture of Ruth 🥺 💔😭😭😭💔
Ahh when earl leaves vesta - that note saying when the phone ain't ringing uts me not calling 😆👏 everyone wished earl the best ❤ The recipes at the back of the book are brilliant but you can buy crisco in the UK 😢
The music of this movie kills me 😣. I don't know, there is something in this that makes me feel safe, like i have protection from these strong women. This movie changed me, and i'm grateful for that ❤️
About the 4th time I've watched this and I must say it's the best film I've watched. It has all the ingredients , love, humour and suspense, all delicately put together to form a masterpiece.
So what is this? The film with the modern-day bits edited out? I didn't realize they took up such a tiny proportion of the movie, I could have sworn it was more 60/40.
We only see Idgie and Julian together twice, both times on a staircase. The first time, little Idgie is launching herself at her insufferable brother because he's teasing her before the wedding on the day Buddy senior dies. The next time its 12 years later and its Ruth flying down the stairs and they're both there to rescue her and take Buddy Junior to his new life. I always love little circularities like that in storytelling ❤
Love the way the (whole length) movie never actually lets us know whether the old lady is Idgie / Edge, thus immortalising the already death~defying bee charmer
Hello Moon, I really enjoyed this, I think it's a better version here with all the nursing home bits cut out. It's still a complete and lovely story. Still made me cry. Thank you for the upload 🙏🏻🌹
Thanks! Haven’t seen this film in a long time ❤ This part really stands alone, but I miss seeing Kathy Bates and Jessica Tandy… Must find the full version
I did not realise even though the title states it, that this is Ruths and Edge's beautiful love story. The editing is phenomenal Thank you for placing this beautiful story /video here. It calms the soul. 😊
I love this movie so much 🤍🥰😍🤩because : 1) First of all because I find the film music of Thomas Newman fits perfectly with the general atmosphere. 2) Secondly, Marie-Louise Parker and Mary Stuart Masterson play their part perfectly well. 3) And third, I love the friendship between Ruth and Idgie described by Fannie Flag here.
Caution, this is not the original movie. It's just the part concerning Ruth adn Idgie but all the scenes with Evelyn and Ninny was deleted (Katy Bates and Jessica Tandy).
"Everyone thought she died right along with him" "Idgie never quite got over losing Buddy" I mean when the other half of your soul dies you do take it badly. Buddy was definitely the other half of Idgie's soul
Oh dear, I don't think I can take this, I'm sure it's a great movie but I just can't watch this, so terribly sad. I think I'm going to cheat and look at the ending. Terrible, my nerves can't take this. Thank you
Mary Smith how sheltered must you be! how is this sad? This is about compassion! this is about friendship! this is about love! this is about resilience! this is about girl power!!! This is uplifting and if you dont get it you are either dead Inside or just a very sopiled child!
Aggh! It's an edit. It is still a beautiful watch, if you haven't seen it before - but be warned this is not the whole beautiful movie! It is an excerpt which I didn't realise until too late.

I wondered why this film wasn't blocked on RUclips! it's because so much has been cut out! If you didn't know the film you wouldn't know half of it was missing. @Mark Fox Have you ever created something, something so beautiful, with the help and sharing of ideas from others? Even tho someone helped, it would still be unique in it own right. That is what this video is, something beautiful and wonderful. If I was the creator of the actual film, I would be flattered beyond words that someone took the time to create something as beautiful as this. It's a love story, in fact, this edit is about love from beginning to end. We should cherish all things created in love. Many blessings too you. 😊
Excellent movie. Most movies bore me quickly so I stop watching within 20 mins. For some reason I thought Cathy Bates played in Fried Green Tomatoes but once I started watching I was sold. Thank you. Perfect Sunday viewing.
The film tells the story of a woman in progress played by Bates, who is befriended by an old lady played by Tandy, who tells her the story of Ruth and Idgie. If you ever got the chance, watch the film. Not only this portion.
Boys on the Side with Mary Louise Parker, Drew Barrymore, Whoopi Goldberg, its similar to this one in some ways. Its my 2nd favourite after this movie.

Yeah, I fell in love with Smoky in the film...
Think he'd have had a better relationship with Idgie than Ruth, tho
In the book, his love for Ruth is more pronounced. Especially when he died in the 1970s with the picture in the pocket by his heart.
@@cisvaughan6937 That's the thing - Idgie would give him alcohol while Ruth would tuck him in bed.
