i took strapping off mine after first 24 hours, iced and swam on it (kicking only)...day 5 and have good mobility already. lots of squeezing exercises, and of course opposite planes of movement too. feels great, stiff and sore but not paiful. done this with two other breaks and disolations on the hand due to sport...this is all great advice get moving it fast
I can’t give personal medical advice but I usually tell my clients that dislocations can often times be tougher then fractures but the key thing is to work slowly with prolonged gentle stretching. Getting end range of motion is always key. Good luck!
thanks for video. i have dislocated pinky finger 2 years ago. can it go back to normal again without surgeon? i cant bend my pinky finger and have poop up. based on video in youtube, it said PIP dorsal
Can I ask 1. after how long you should take the splint off and 2. after how long you should stop icing it 3. when the earliest you should start the getting the recovery exercise, like try to squeeze it?
It all varies based on the location and severity. The hand has so many joints and does so much that it depends on the type of injury, severity of injury, location of injury. Depends on if you has surgery or didn’t have surgery. It’s best to find a trusted hand therapist that will take the time to explain what’s going on and create a plan with you. Sometimes doctors do it but therapist tend to have more time with their patients. Hope that helps.
I dislocated my pinky back in 2005 and I still have pain as if it just happened, not too mention can’t bend my pinky and knuckle is still fat and swollen.
Listening to this video was the MOST Painful thing i have ever encountered... OMG. She just made my finger worse by listening to her say NOTHING for 10 minutes. OMG
i disclocated my finger during football season’s and i’ve been icing it and taking medicine but it still hurt and i’ve been doing exercises but for some reason when i try to bend it ,it stills hurt.🤦🏽♂️
Hello I dislocated my pinky like 7 months ago I saw exercises that I can do to prevent it from getting stiff but I still feel a bit of a stiff is that normal?
Hey Dr. how are you. So i dislocated my right ring finger ( PIP ) to be exact and my doctor after popping it back in place applied a tool for it to stay in place for 2 weeks to be exact. But now, after 10 days of removing this tool the area around this joint is still swollen but the range of motion since the injury has drastically gotten better. I am now able to bend it and move it in several directions. As for the swelling, it hasn't decreased. So my question is, will it decrease or is my finger still not healed properly ? Oh and is it possible that it was not popped back into place
In general … I always tell my own clients that swelling is the LAST thing to go away. Consult with your hand therapist and see what’s possible for you. All hand injuries are so different.
Yes…when there is a dislocation, it’s important to let it get stiff and rest for a few weeks. The stiffness and swelling are normal after an injury to the fingers…get hand therapy to help move it the right way. Check out some of our newer videos. Good luck.
Hey Roger. The reason your finger might still be swollen after 3 years is because you STILL don’t have enough motion and have some type of imbalance in your finger/hand system. The hand is intricate and the way it moves is too. I’m an advocate for finding the right hand therapist to help you because videos this this can NOT see what’s wrong. Videos like mine can only GUIDE you. Yes most people help come here looking for fast and quick answers - and there are none. I hope you get the help you are looking for. Thank you for your kind question.
@@suhubu1 But the splint isnt supposed to come off and 'PT' is ambiguous. My advice: Break Finger X-Ray Reset Splint (immobilize 4w) Remove splint, pinch area to determine pain / swelling. Less pain = start actuating joint(s) by week 5, may need to start doing stetches to restore range of motion. Expect it to take months to restore full range.
I wish I can send pictures of my finger, but finger was stitched up to the point where i can't bend it on the first knuckle. Would heat help in this situation? I was told hot wax would.
Hey! I’d be doing you a disservice if I just gave off hand advice. Our advice is general point you in the right direction. I have a few what to do with scar videos. Heat like paraffin is moist heat which can be great for scars and pain but doesn’t help with actual mobility of a joint. My best recommendation is to find a certified hand therapist in your area that can give you the best advice. Good luck!

Sooo I dislocated my thumb at the base it was pushed down towards my palm its been ab 19 days sense my bike accident … so my questions how do i know if it is healing properly ? the swelling in my hand has came down alooot from what it was i pretty much sprained my hole hand & wrist , but so my thumb is still swolen it seens like and it is still kinda bruised looks like but i can’t bend it at all i can kinda sway it left right down up but i can’t bend it & kinda feels different than my other thing meaning when i touch something with my messed up thumb i dont have the same feeling as when i touch my good thumb so idk i just looking for advice to know how if it’s healing properly? How to tell ? Or Check i have been to doc it is in a cast but i take it off here and there to lightly wash it & re wrap it …any thing i should look for ?
For healing, the therapist or doctor will push it into different directions in specific ways to test if the ligaments have been torn. They they suspect it’s torn - then you’ll go into the next steps depending on how bad it is. If it feels fully torn, then you might need surgery. But it all depends and I highly recommend going to a specialist vs waiting bc waiting can make it worse. Good luck and thanks for the question.
Sometimes when people still have pain, it’s because they lack the motion. I don’t know your case - but working with others, it’s still possible to get better, even years after an injury.

Hello I dislocated my pinky like 7 months ago I saw exercises that I can do to prevent it from getting stiff but I still feel a bit of a stiff is that normal?
That’s normal for stiffness to continue when you don’t get to end range. You can keep working to get rid of it completely.

I’m 10 days post dislocation. Same finger. The swelling is still really there. And it’s painful. Tolerable, but still pain
Dr told me wait 3 weeks and THEN start physiotherapy. Now 3 weeks later finger is stif and swollen and little blue
