This is the most amazingly easy way to break a coconut. I tried this and it worked so well that I was so awe struck for a day :D and my mom wants to make sure that I thank you for this great idea. We don't even need a hammer, we can hit the heated coconut with another coconut and the shell so easily cracks. Thanks a Ton!
I love this guy! I went looking for this video only, because he's so calm and real, whereas other videos are too excited and over the top. I added this video to my "saved" list. Now my daughter and I are going to open up the coconut. Thank you for showing us how to open a coconut!!
I tried this method and works like a charm!!! Only instead of hanging the coconut over the fire i put it right on the stove and rotated every ten seconds. it was hot but i can hold onto it then pop the meat cracked the shell open. i was able to get 5 big chucks as a whole in 5min instead of 45min last time with a knife. Thank you for the tip!
Lived around coconut trees for 20 years -never knew this trick to get the water by accessing one of the 3 eyes. where i lived a tree climber would come and harvest the coconuts and will pluck some that are prime with lot of water with a soft meat so never had to learn this trick. Good idea and Thanks!!
I'm sure you know the freezing method but this is actually a great primitive method. If I ever end up shipwrecked, I can cook one in a fire, bang on a rock with it and eat the meat easily. The TV show Survivor, they eat allot of coconuts and I haven't seen one episode where they use this method rather than a knife. Nice video!
this is very helful than waiting to freeze n break it 😁😁thank you so much for this trick i can breAk coconut shell easily without damaging the floor keep uploading new tricks too 🤗🤗😇
Be careful when opening the shell with your hands. When I was like 14, I was opening a coconut (first time ever) and trying to pull apart the two halves with my hands and BAM! Sliced through my middle finger tip. I should have gotten stitches but knew I probably wouldn't be allowed to play in my football game that weekend if I had stitches, so I didn't get them lol, good memory
What a great method. That would save my hands a lot of pain and energy. It's better than having coconut shell fragments all over my yard and the meat in the dirt. 😄. Especially helpful if you're going to be doing several.
Heat changed the taste in my try. Also after heating it required me to hit for half an hour. Maybe I should have hit harder but you said gently. Well, it also depends on the freshness, ripeness...etc.of the coconut. So I wonder that can I understand from the outlook of the coconut whether it would crack easily or not when buying...
Nice method. But we remove it by freezing the coconut 8 hours before you break. I think it's the easiest way. May be it will take 30 seconds to remove.
have you ever tried the throw it hard as you can on concrete method? works like a charm for me. Also works when the husk is green and fresh off the tree. Never takes me more than three throws
Hi , there is a minute smal technique to open the coconut the beautiful way. The right eye which gives water is the bigger one. Look for the two similar looking eyes, and the one which is just opposite or the odd one is the correct hole which gives water. Pour out water from that. Now to break open, look for the edge which is just opp the similar eyes. Hold it in your left palm with the eyes near to the thumb and hit it one shot exactly on the edge and the coconut breaks it neat two halves. Scrap the coconut for the flesh inside. There it’s. Practice by watching the shapes of the coconut
I find the best way to get into the coconut is to use a cork screw, wind that thing in there then just pull it out and you have hole just the right size to pour out the water, I always use a cork screw for this, the trouble is in the UK we don't get fresh coconuts they are pretty stale most of the time.
Mayconn Garcia Yep that's absolutely correct the coconuts in London are generally terrible these days, I recall though when I was a kid coconuts used to be much better sweeter juicier fresher. Today it's like the coconuts take a refrigerated detour around the world before it gets here. Even the ones that are supposed to be young and fresh tend to be stale. It could well be due to where they come from. In the old days they came mostly from the west indies I think no one else really bothered with them, even the bananas seemed nicer. There is a definite lack of taste compared to how they used to be.
There is the 2 eyes and the mouth. The eyes are close together, the mouth has slightly different and usually in the middle of the 2 eyes. Through the middle of the eyes you can bang the coconut and it will break, or you can go 1/2 way from where the eyes are to the center of the coconut and bang there for the coconut to open up from the other way: going around the coconut. You don't have to heat the coconut!
There is no advantage to trying to keep the inner core intact, as it needs to be cut into pieces once it has been liberated. I throw my coconuts with great force onto a concrete pad in back of my house, and it breaks quite easily. I then use a spoon to separate the meat from the shell. Sometimes I reheat the shell on the fire, which causes the meat to shrink away from the shell, making the process so much easier. I then use a potato peeler to remove the brown skin, and presto, pure white coconut meat!
that's it i' m going to the grocery store to but 2 or 3 coconuts tomorrow, drink some coconut milk fresh from the coconut and then store the coconut meat, lots of it for cooking.
The water thing was good... But the rest is hilarious!! My husband takes the hammer and with 2-3 powerful bangs the coconut breaks in two pieces... Lol
+arkchix I never tried with electric stove, sorry. but you can always freeze the coconut and crack it the same way, but you need to leave at least 12 hours in the frezer.
this is a hard way...put coconut in freezer after draining the water for 12 hours then crack all over and not only will it's she'll come off but will also take the brown skin off too so you end up with a nice white round ball of tasty coconut meat. NO FIRE simples
We Sri Lanka use coconut every day. We crack it open into 2 halves. The flesh is scraped with a coconut scraper. If you are you using a blender pry out pieces of the flesh and blend. Now they also sell freshly shredded coconuts in supermarkets.
the only thing i do the same is the coconut milk removal but i dont cook it and i dont have hammer plus this video way proccess is slower if your not very weak
Private Angel:Where did you get that theory? The softest of the three holes is for the emerging stem when the plant start’s to grow, the other two holes are where the roots come out.
u know that 3rd eye represents the 3rd eye of shiva.......don't worry shiv is very sweet....he never minds.....i do this myself....to get quick access to water🙄

I leke to freeze when I have time, but if I buy a new coconut and need to break right away i have to burn it.
yeahSOwhat the freezer freezes it not you. doesn't count as work.
Ro Stan hi not work but wait time. at least 8 hours to freeze the coconut.
ravvraj just hit the shell to crack it open. the same as the video. it should separate from the shell.
The freezing thing never worked for me.

super idea, is it possible to remove without extract inside water...without make hole
in this way it will boil. you can try freezing for 8 hours and them try to break with the water frozen. tell me how it went.
3 hours later - still hitting the coconut.
+Zoe Bell well my goal was to remove the coconut hole. mission accomplish. :-)
+Mayconn Garcia great job... ill try it!!! looks eady! better than cracking out the shell and trying to pry the meat out takes forever

I don't have a Gas stove.. but it sure looks easy to remove the shell and reveal the meat.. You have to hit it pretty hard to get it to work.
you can always freeze the coconut after removing the water and break the same way.
No Coconut was hurt in the making of this video?
ha ha ha 😃

i leave in London and I agree that here we dont have the best coconut to buy.

Can you do this with an electric stove with gas you have more control.
+arkchix I never tried with electric stove, sorry. but you can always freeze the coconut and crack it the same way, but you need to leave at least 12 hours in the frezer.
Is there not taste difference because of the heat?
no, try you will like it.

Of the 3 'eyes', only one reaches the flesh ? Is this the case for all coconuts ??
Thank you for your reply. Nature is amazing.
