World's LARGEST D-Day Re-enactment POV: D-Day Ohio 2022 Saturday Landing Helmet Cam

- As always, I had an amazing time portraying a 6th Navy Beach Battalion Corpsman at D-Day Ohio this year in Conneaut Ohio. This is the largest annual WWII re-enactment in the country and the biggest annual D-Day re-enactment in the world! I'm happy to be able to provide a perspective of this event that the general public doesn't normally get to see.
Some of you keen-eyed viewers may have noticed that fellow RUclipsr@StudioTReenacting appears throughout the video. Make sure to check out his channel if you haven't already!
Some background on the Navy Beach Battalions:
On D-Day (the Allied invasion of occupied France in World War 2), a massive amount of troops, vehicles, ships, and supplies needed to be quickly moved onto land. The Navy was in charge of managing the ships at sea, and the Army would be moving forward on land, but someone had to bridge the gap between the two in order for things to go smoothly. This was the job of the 2nd, 6th, and 7th Navy Beach Battalions.
The men of the Navy Beach Battalions were Navy sailors who trained with US Army assault troops before the invasion. They were tasked with landing among the early waves of the invasion, then setting up operations on the beach to provide medical aid, assist with the landing and unloading of landing craft, direct traffic on the beach, repair boats, clear beach obstacles and land mines, and set up communications with boats at sea and other Allied outposts. These men showed incredible bravery on D-Day, but are often left out of mainstream narratives of the invasion. By portraying the Navy Beach Battalions at D-Day Ohio, we hope to keep the stories of these heroic men alive, even long after the men themselves have passed away.

“Did you get hit?” “I guess so”😂
OUTSTANDING, OUTSTANDING,OUTSTANDING ! The best footage I have ever seen in the 20 yr's I have been to this event. The LCVP crews get some great coverage of their work. The 2nd NBB are TOTAL PRO'S after only a couple of year's. Now I can show people what we have been doing on the beach the last 13yr's. This year's oscar goes to WORLD WAR WISDOM. Spielberg is on the phone !
Thank you! The 2nd NBB guys definitely know their stuff. Fast learners for sure! I’ll wait for my Oscar 😂

Holy yapping of the yappingtons
It was so fun getting to meet you in person at D-Day this past weekend! Thank you for being so kind and taking the time to talk with me and my little brother as well. ☺️
Same to you Hannah! Hope you had a great time at the event.
Im sorry i ruined the 100 likes
OUTSTANDING VIDEO.... I was the .30 cal MG gunner and was awesome to see us run off the Higgins boat and later when you caught up to us in our shell hole. Overall great work.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I always loved seeing other people’s helmet cam videos, so I figured I had to make my own!
My favorite part about this is the WW2 planes like the P-51 Mustang. Just to see them still flying is amazing. I would like to know more about who is flying and how.
That plane flyover was insane! It looked so real.
Because it's a real WW2 era fighter plane
@@AlliedX oh nice! Thanks
Many people don't know this but there were native american code talkers on D-Day at Utah Beach from the Comanche tribe. Members from the tribe still visit the beaches in France. Actually my great granduncle was on Utah Beach on d day and he was later killed in a French town
As a nurse and U.S. Navy Veteran and daughter of an Army Medic World War II Vet it does my heart good to see a young man like yourself so involved in our history! I’m very interested in watching how the medics took care of the wounded out in the field since that was what my father did in World War II and me being a nurse. We must never forget the greatest generation of soldiers and what they did for our country in their sacrifice and service and you’re keeping that alive in your videos and for that I thank you!
I love your videos and I try to catch everyone that you post and will continue to do so! I’m curious to know if you or any of the young men in this video are actually in the military or plan to do so?
May God bless you as you continue to bring history hopefully to the youth of today who know nothing about it! God bless America!👍🙏🇺🇸.
Hey bro, I'm into old school stuff too. But tbh I love what you do. I think its super cool, and and honor to live a re creation of some brave moments. I definitely think that it preserves history in a humbling and realistic way
Great work, I am with WW2 Armor out of Florida, I was there Thursday and Friday and being the main gunner on an M4 Sherman you don’t get to see all the amazing efforts of everyone else! Great job, excellent video!!! Keep up the your hard work honoring the Greatest generation!
I was there for all three battles. You can see me running off the boat on the right at 7:28. Cant believe I was that close to you during the fight. This was by far the craziest battle Ive taken part in. You had to be 18 to partake in this and I had just turned 18 that month so I narrowly got to go. The tanks and planes were the most incredible aspect of it all as well as being able to talk to a lot of cool people. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience and its awesome to see that you were there. Love your videos and keep up the good work.
Seeing the planes overhead must have been so cool!
"Here is your tourniquet. Okay. It's been ten seconds. Give it back."
That put a smile on my face that we might not have seen each other on the beach but you were treating every person that I was with. Glad to see you get to use the leg tourniquet. The question is did you get any footage of the airborne bridge battle. I can’t find anyone so far that has it.
Thanks again for giving me that tourniquet Chris! I did get a video of the bridge battle and I’ll be posting it once I get the footage edited!
This was so awesome. You even had air support...lol. Keep these vids coming as I'm living my dream vicariously through you, thanks for the content.
i didn't know your channel had re enactments but they have quickly become my favorite aspect look forward to more
Really cool to see the battle from your perspective! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
This is absolutely brilliant, love what you guys are doing here. So Cool.
Thank you!
Planes too???!!! This is so awesome , Im 54 and been a huge WW2 Nerd for years ! Thank you for this
I love how you put so much efforts in your videos and try and show as real world war 2 can be I love your videos and you teached me some interesting facts too
I love seeing the P51 keep making fly-bys. Amazing job
11:06 that plane's low fly-by was awsome
I love seeing both medic and rifleman roles when I feel like it I always look up your channel and watch some of your videos
I had an AWESOME first time there. An absolutely amazing event to see in person. On a plus side I got to meet you the first year going to this event. Best day yet this year! Worth it staying there all day. Can't wait for next year! o7
Thanks so much for coming to the event and stopping by to say hi! We put a lot of work into the event, so it’s really great to hear that you enjoyed it!!
This is one of the coolest things ive seen super cool bro 😀
Didn't even know that you were reenacting here man! If you are doing it again this year, I look forward to seeing you!
The I'll see you in Paris got me dying
😂 I’m glad someone appreciated that
Been waiting for a video likes this for years
i love d day ohio its a great event!! sweet footage!
those flyovers looked amazing
My dad used to reenact at this event every year. I watched it with him for the first time this year
This is so neat!! You look like you had a blast!!! It’s great to see people that invested in history, gives me hope for humanity.. especially seeing so many young people!!!! That’s too cool you guys had aircraft flying!! I would love to do something like this, but unfortunately I’m not a guy 😂
Is there a source to find out info about upcoming events??? I’m in Seattle… I’ve seen a Civil War reenactment once while in Montana and it was a blast.
Props to you for keeping that water bottle out of the ocean most people would just walk buy that that’s really awesome you did that
I remember I came here when you were out their and I can't wait for it again August 17th
What blew me away the most was that y’all were so dedicated that you had actual planes that I think were from ww2 in the reenactment.
I love this I can’t wait till I am old enough to do this
this looks fun to do
Bro said “OFF THE BEACH”😂😂 Not too be that guy😅😅
Coming next year for sure. Seems to be awesome!!! part of the 709th Infatrie.
So cool
Thank you!
Wow!
Great that you were able to video, I’ll be at Rockford in illinois next month
Have fun! I won’t be able to make it to that one, but I hear thats a great event
I’ll be there too

Came from your TikTok and instantly subbed, it’s a dream of mine to join a ww2 or ww1 reenactment but unfortunately I live in Canada. Great video tho 👍
Thank you! I know there are some WWII reenactors in Canada. You should look into it! It’s definitely a great hobby
Awesome video, man! You got some great footage! Mind if I ask how you attached your helmet cam? I Reenact German side and I've been playing around with the idea of bringing a camera out. The only issue is that I want it hidden. I was debating putting one of mine in a flashlight case, but Everytime I raise my rifle or go prone, I'd lose the shot.
You could always try a chest cam, much like police do with body cameras? You can get flat ones and paint it if need be, no one would think anything of it, or even put it inside your uniform and make a hole for it to see out
His if you look close, you’ll notice seems mounted inside his helmet, because you see his cheek, and even eyelashes. I’d guess he has it in the back of his helmet mounted somehow if you look around 3:02
Whats your camera setup like? Seems like it was mounted to the side of your face, hard to imagine it being practical.
Loved the footage, thanks
I used a Sony AS15 camera attached to the inside of my helmet liner. It isn’t very comfortable, but it’s very well concealed.
Holy shit this looks awesome. How does one get involved in doing this
awesome.
Thanks!
Great video man. I’ll have to get this same camera rig. Is it a Sony?
Thank you! It’s a Sony AS15. There may honestly be newer versions of the camera than that, but I’m not sure. I was hoping the quality would be a bit better, but it’s definitely a step up from my last camera setup!
@@WorldWarWisdom Good deal. I’ll have to look into getting one for myself.
This year I mounted my GoPro in a first aid pack on my helmet. Didn’t work out too good. The footage is on my channel if you want to take a look. I saw William Clark was using the same setup as you. Looks like the better option 👍🏼
I would definitely like to see the rest of the footage
Thank all you guys for checking on us and making sure water was handy. Even us "Germans" had you medics checking !
Damn this looks actually so real.
This was amazing, I’d love to do this someday. Where can I go to get the required gear for the event?
Go on to the d day reenactment sight and it will show the required gear
Question: Can you choose to be on the axis or allied powers for these reenactments
You guys did get a short turn-around on Saturday this year. It was a shame the safety brief held you up, I'm not sure what the issue was there. We got out of the embarkation area plenty early on Friday for a nice long ride.
You’ve got that right! Nothing wrong with a short turn around, it just caught me by surprise haha. Thanks for all the hard work you put into the event this year Lee. See you in Conneaut again next year!
Wooo
13:00, there we are. Rangers lead the way!
Me and the Michigan boys invading Ohio be like:
Nice
I really gotta get into this.
imagine paying and going all that way in a cool ass re enactment just to die at the start
WHERE DO YOU GET THESE WORKING REPLICAS OF THE D DAY BAOTS AND WW2 PLANES
How did you get so many people?
Studio T Reenacting cameo
30 seconds?😄
Jman
What lamp did you guys use i know about the se-11
❤
Roughly how many men got off the landing crafts per craft ?
I counted about 20
How do you tell if you were hit?
I know you all are having a great time, but this happy attitude when you get hit really breaks immersion. I would totally play my role and scream out of my lungs in case I would get hit
They’re just grown men playing soldiers, I’m not sure how they can say this is an honourable tribute to those who died on D-Day when they act like kids joking around. It’s embarrassing.
@@Jimmythefish577 "Grown men playing soldiers" that pour time and money into this hobby because they love history, and love teaching it. Reenactments are an opportunity for the public to ask questions, and get a visual of how things like a soldier's kit might have been at the time. Not everyone likes to sit in a classroom/room all day and read words in a book, some people like to learn visually.
embarrassing to who? Im sure the person 6 feet under cant really feel "embarrassed"@@Jimmythefish577
Average day at the beach in Ohio
Ohio memes are dead
How many people were at this event?
How can you tell if you get shot or hit in a reenactment?
I went to the 2021 event but I was sadly unable to attend the 2022 one. I am hopeful that I will be able to attend the Saturday one this year. I am unable to attend other days because of band camp. I have the good fortune of living only about an hour away from this.
No CATF CATF ?😂
Jman
how did you find that i found the website or whatever but nothing❓
I was at this reenactment
What i need to go through an reenactment like this
Bro tossing that water bottle grenade
So surreal! 3:19
Now imagine it in normandy in 44
Thanks to you this makes me wanna go watch band of brothers for the 8th time
Reminds me of the nam war
POV your at the beach:
kid: Mom?
mom: Yes honey
kid:can we go the beach
mom:No honey dday is happing
Nice eyelashes bro 😆😂
I have a quick question what is the designated age to start doing this kind of stuff?
Probably 18 lol
There really isn't any "designated age" to get into reenacting. Some people have reenactor parents and grow up in the hobby. But to shoot guns and everything, you need to be 16. At least where I am.
i was here last year it was pretty fucking cool
Looks more real then the real thing
What part of Ohio is this, I saw this and was like dang I wanna do that AND ITS IN MY STATE, Im addicted to WW2 so this would be my dream!
Not far from Erie, Pa and on the shores of Lake Erie
Battle
How do you know if your dead or not?
I live in Ohio I wanna do this in the future
They could have put some of the tank stopper things
This is a great event! I partook in this event in 2022 as a member of the Ost Battalion 439 of the Russian liberation army for the German Wehrmacht. Our unit was on the central part of the beach so it's very possible that I battled you! I have footage of our section of the beach posted on my RUclips Channel if you're interested and I hope to see you next year!
Just imagine: Drinking PumPKiN SpICE LatTe, on the beach then suddenly a bunch of guys landing on the beach, probably lagged too hard
How do you get to be in it
Dirty deuce has that daddy voice
I was there😊
I got to help the boy scouts
But there was also a lot of drop off boats and the soldiers eventually jump out the side of the boat
What plane was that at 2:58 it...kind looks like a b25 mitchell or a c47 idk
C47
I saw reenactment days
