I have to say, tackling the Witcher universe is no small feat especially for a channel your size. I would never claim to be an expert but I’d like to mention I’ve read all the books twice. I’d like to tell you that despite your channel’s small size, you did an extremely fantastic job for the introduction to this series. I’m subscribing to follow along. Job well done!!

Yeah the Velen we see in game is only the very north western tip of a former temerian province called Velen. There’s even a major city in the Witcher universe called Gors Velen we don’t get to see which is the capital of this rural province

I was afraid, that this was going to use the Netflix series as basis of the lore, which makes up the lore as it goes and contradicts itself. I'm glad you took the game/book route. Great job! Keep them coming.

@@TheLorebrarians A solid plan. The games took great care adapting the universe from the books. They are pretty much in line with the books in terms of the lore.
My guess is that the Netflix series will be drifting further from the source material in the future seasons. This might cause confusion to people who've only seen the show, but a simple disclaimer probably fixes that issue.

Huge Witcher fan, I'm well versed with the books and games (and now Netflix series, I guess 🙄)... This is the best video I've seen yet on the geographic explanation of the Continent, and does a fabulous job at touching on the when/why/how of the kingdoms' relationships with one another. Honestly, this would be the absolute first place to send some one who just watched the Netflix series and would want to know more about the world of the Witcher. Very well done, man 👏👏
I've seen maps that cover it by taking a similar map and circling/calling attention to specific cities, areas, etc., but I'd like to see a video detailing the locations in the books so that others could get a better understanding of where (and possibly when) all these stories too place.
Again though, hats off the video. You're other ones on the Witcher are on point, too... keep doing what you're doing 👍

It's no secret these types of lore channels, which focus on Fantasy books/film/tv like LOTR, GOT, the Witcher, etc., are popping up everywhere lately so its easy to see a lot of content get rehashed multiple times to the point where it almost feels like channels are copying each other. Ill give ya the ez mode. There was these elf's long ago they were like the Lord of rings elf's magically even godly in a way. They started to run out of food. Even these elf's had ones who were super powerful power from their blood naturally no training in magic they just had it from birth. The elf leader had an advisor who was super elf mage and another elf who was super soldier. The super mage found a way to teleport to other worlds but as he did this monsters were released. He sent super warrior to go through and find food and other places to live. Eventually the supers turned on the king and took control cause they were bad. Elf's can't have kids after like the age of 8 for some reason. The elder blood of the elf's was starting to disappear. In the contenant that's what they call where everyone lives there is no name and the elf's are not from there they are from a different dimension there was a girl named ciri she had elder blood. See in this contenant which was gnome and dwarf only elf's went there but when they used the portal it made hans show up. You have elf's and humans who were in the south. The humans were nice guys and the elf's were not. They interbred and created new human elf race. Ciri is from this line of people. Now other humans who were not from the portal they sailed there somehow were up north. So now the elf's sent super soldier through the portal with his army the wild hunt. There's so much more but that's all you need to know to be honest. Everyone loves the Witcher and it's fine geralt is cool but ciri can literally yell and destroy the whole planet ciri is all that matters in the Witcher. She could literally look at geralt and he would explode

so what i'm getting from this, is that they haven't discovered the "americas" of this world yet, since most of the known world in the witcher is inspired by european lore etc, and no one has travelled west yet, so, in theory, barring the idea of capcom snuffing the title, the next witcher game, or a series of books could be called "sagas of the new world" or some such,. that'd be cool

Awesome witcher's lore lecture. I love your voice and used pictures. Still it is called Novigrad, not Novograd. Good luck.

Enjoy the season, and be sure to check out the other vids in the series! Season 1 has a reputation of being a bit confusing to newer fans

Imagine Yennifer gets mad at Geralt and teleports him to the dark souls universe. Do you guys think he would do pretty well there?

Witcher lore is mostly based on Germanic folklore and mythology, (the fantasy parts not the political parts), which is why queen maeve always confused me being a character in Celtic Irish myth.

Unnecessary factoid: probably first time continent was called The Continent, was in a book Witcher: A Game of Imagination (Wiedźmin: Gra wyobraźni, I don't know if there's official translation) in 2001, first take on tabletop RPG in universe. But be ware traveller! Steel your nerves if you want a peek, it's not for faint heart :D
There is, or was, legend that map in rulebook "forgot" one whole northern kingdom. Which is hard to prove, as book is surprisingly rare this times :D

You can explore toussaint in Witcher 3 blood and wine. It’s a vassal state so it has its own ruler and laws for the most part
