I agree, Carrum is the best station in Melbourne, the views are amazing. But if you draw a slightly longer bow, and head to country Victoria, have a look at Ballarat train station. It is worth a trip just to see this station. It’s an older 1880’s station, well looked after and even has a public bar on the platform.
I think Box Hill station should have been on the list, simple layout, spacious platforms, completely sheltered, easy access to shops and food courts, and a nearby bus stop and tram stop, you can go almost anywhere in Melbourne from Box Hill.
Yeah not a fan of Box Hill either. It's a bit grimy, no view, toilets are filthy (although that's not surprising given the rest of the network) and, whilst there are bus and tram connections, they're a bit of walk from the station itself and the tram only goes back the way you've just come from, if you're coming from the city. Box Hill Central also isn't the nicest shopping centre either.

I wouldn’t have predicted Carrum would be your number 1. But it also reinforces my personal point of view that it would’ve been good if Bonbeach, Chelsea and Edithvale were elevated stations instead of trenches. With the railway line so close to the bay it would’ve been a nice view from all the stations I mentioned.
Carrum had unstable ground due to being so close to the water..and the bridge had to get over the waterway...which rendered being underground not workable

Carrum is a lovely view and overall a net positive upgrade for the network but unfortunately the traffic didn’t reduce as expected and the skyrail does mean opposite buildings lose any view of the beach. Aesthetically it’s excellent for most though
The same can be said about many level crossing removals. The program has a specific intention of removing the crossing, and although sometimes they do even more than that, they're not always as diligent as they should be about fixing traffic. It's a shame, but obviously their budget is finite and they have an awful lot on their plate already, I reckon.

Carrum is freaking beautiful, its the only station on the Frankston line where you can see all the way out, and it was actually the first place I went to when travelling on trains by myself. Good call!
No mention of southern cross station?
It's too smelly, it's closed for the night network because it was privatised, it doesn't have a good selection of shops. It could be so much better than what it is!
I reckon oakleigh is worth a shout based on your criteria, just not very aesthetic...
There are more rabbits than people at Wattle Glen Train station.
glen waverley is s tier
Enjoyed the video. To be honest it could be in the UK as it looks so similar.
You reckon? I'm surprised. What makes you think it's so similar?
COBURG MENTIONED
So no old stations in it
chelsea station, all the beach ones
ROSANNA MENTIONED
I know it’s a controversial one, but I like the new Union Station. I like the design of the southern cross station rebuild. Sadly not around to remember the old spencer Street station. But in reality, I don’t like anything else about it.
I also like the new Union station! It has quite a nice design, adequate shelter, and nice landscaping.
Glenroy
Whittlesea line was cut back to Epping
But try to run to Epping then you have to get off and get another train to Whittlesea which was only one blue carriage train
I lived in Epping in Coulstock street which is only 2 streets away from 1971 to 2007
The current Epping train station is the third train station that Epping has had
It was actually cut back to Lalor, but would have reopened to Epping by the time you were there.
@@melbournerailwayvideos people could still get a one carriage train to Whittlesea right up until 1968
@@melbournerailwayvideos the original South Morang train station was right next to the South Morang football ground
Really? Wow, you should update the Wikipedia page then! It says that the line was closed in 1959 from Lalor to Whittlesea.
Great historical insights. Thanks!
@@melbournerailwayvideos VicRail stopped freight trains 1958 but keeped a diesel operated train, which looked a lot like the blue bouncers
From Epping to Whittlesea was never electrified
I remember catching the red rattlers & the blue bounces & the silver streaks & then the supers to school back in the 1980s
I left Epping in 2007 & haven’t been back since November 2008 I doubt I would recognise Epping today but I’ll always be an Epping boy 😂
Personally, I think Moreland Station looks more sophisticated than Coburg Station.
Lynbrook!
I would have bumped one for Hawthorn which is a personal favourite
Good shout. I have a clear bias towards the newer stations but the network is definitely better for having heritage stations like Hawthorn!
Yes. Tiffany Lamb did a TV ad on platform 1 at Hawthorn in the 80s for Twinings tea.
Skyrail is an eyesore
As opposed to the crap that was there before?
Broken fencing
.1 km walks to cross track ..banked up road traffic for up to an hour ..
I like Carrum, but RUclips seems to think its spelled "Karim" lmao
I prefer Ruthen station as I used to work there in the 80's😅.
Fair enough!
COBURG?
????
Bro no southern cross is crazy?
Carrum is freaking beautiful, its the only station on the Frankston line where you can see all the way out, and it was actually the first place I went to when travelling on trains by myself. Personally, I would've gone for Bonbeach instead because it is really quiet and I love how it looks on the outside (Can't say the same for Chelsea) even though they share the same design. Even as Bonbeach and Carrum in my top 5, along with Hurstbridge, Aspendale and Sandringham. I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for choosing Bonbeach as my top station lol, probably shouldve built it as skyrail
I have a soft spot for all those stations you listed. I personally prefer Chelsea to Bonbeach, because I like the colour scheme more, but they're all really nice seaside stations!
layla?? don’t u mean lalor?
Hahahaha. I'm on the Lalor bandwagon, not the Lawlor one!
Karim😂
that Briton platform was to be a loop line from Cheltenham as for the rest of your comments it shows how young you are that you don't appreciate old architecture most LCR stations are cold and soulless designed so that people don't get exposed to any possible sun just stainless steel and concrete no aesthetics what so ever
Not having Southern Cross should be a crime…
Maybe once they fix the air quality levels there.
First
That's pretty good when there will be millions of comments on this video soon
I hope Burnley made the Top 10?
My home suburb.
Hahaha it didn't quite make it unfortunately.
@@melbournerailwayvideos Oh well, you'd have to have Richmond in there. Funnily enough its bigger than Adelaide's, Brisbane's and Perth's main central station.
10 platforms!
Yeah it's deceptively large, isn't it!
What about a list of the worst stations? ;-)
Carrum, in winter.
Dandenong. In desperate need of another renovation. Looks very rundown and needs a redesign to cope with the number of people that use it.
