I agree your logo is iconic, and the color scheme is so tied into the look of that logo. My only problem is that it is a double edged sword. You are really married to that navy blue color and "yellow" gold whether you want to be or not. I'm a big fan of the white helmets just purely from a style perspective, but at the same time you lose some of your built-in iconic brand recognition when you do it. The trade off is exactly the opposite when you go base blue or base gold. Navy blue is a high floor low ceiling color to work with. Even Royal blue is more versatile but maybe more messy and things can go very wrong. Hard to screw up your colors, but they also box you into not being able to really make something that pops at an elite level without deviating from it. It takes me an extra split second to recognize WVU when you do something else, which is not really something you want. But at the same time you're alternate whites look sick with the state outline on it and the helmet striping you've had. Is that fair?
As a TCU fan I hate the new jerseys. Almost the entire fan base is asking to bring the spikes back, but the athletic department isn't acknowledging it. We went from TooColdU to generic.
So happy with the WVU uniforms, just wish there was more white added to the blue and gold jerseys, like they added the gold outlines to the white uniforms
The textured appearance of the stripe on the black WVU coal jerseys is a direct reflected image of an actual coal mine in Grafton, WV (could be wrong on the location). Same thing for the texture on the shoulders. They photographed one of the walls in the mine with the flash on and photocopied it directly onto the design.
Really solid video and rankings! As a Colorado Buffs alum, I’m really excited to see the new uniforms for this upcoming season. Was hoping we’d get to see them at the BIG-12 conference, but I’m glad they went with their newer Vapor Untouchable jerseys from last season. When they used those jerseys, those were my favorite uniform combinations. So ready for the Buffs completely ditch the old, really outdated Elite 51 uniform template.
The new WVU uniforms almost look like a carbon copy of Cal's old Nike unis (Goff era), but honestly it's not a bad look at all. The Mountaineers script logo across the chest is a nice touch, differentiating it from other schools that wear a similar color combo. People 'should' be able to tell the difference between WV and Michigan, given that the former lacks a winged helmet ;-) Side note: the busyness of the overall uniform does help hide the inherent messiness of the Vapor Fuse template. Considering Oregon's new 'Generation O' uniform kept the existing chassis, we might have to wait a while for the next jersey template
Just cause you are a BYU fan, you do not have to downgrade the Cougs cause they went all white. Guess what? They can wear the blue pant with the retro-shade white jersey at any time. A+ brother.
Looks like quite a few teams are copying Oklahoma State. I guess that's the benefits the Pokes get fron being a Nike pilot program. BTW, BYU unis are severely underrated. Definitely my second favorite uni.
@@garycorkins105I know the reason given, but really they were just doing us a favor. That said, it would be hilarious to see these make a comeback for a spring game or something.
Iowa State’s Black and White alternates get docked a point in my book because they are in no way rooted in tradition or the schools actual color scheme. I think if you’re going to do alternates or throwbacks they at least need to have some connection to the school and not just be random color combinations that look cool. That feels so gimmicky
Arizona had slightly different sleeve stripes last year. Baylor is rocking Green bay Packers unis. Texas tech is using the same design as Kansas. West Virginia is using USCs uni template.
Ya. I'm with you. I felt like they should have had the Blue jersey with the white pants without stripes and the black block letters. But why is BYU wearing the all white jerseys from 96 when the only time they used those jerseys that year was their only loss was to Washington?!
@@westonware14 That's kind of how I felt and why would they wear those exact jerseys especially at home. Why not wear the Blue Jerseys with the White pants. So much better.
I like the Cats new helmet. I'm a traditionalist for the most part. I like what most people would consider boring. This helmet gives me a traditional look with a modern twist.
Interesting video, thank you. This is one of the many reasons I am glad Tech went with UA and now Adidas instead of Nike, the only thought Nike puts into a uni is Oregon, everyone else gets a basic template. WVU's black uni is a fail, as is TCU's and every other school who throws on a black uni that is not their school colors. Be true to your school. When you school colors are blue and yellow, then you throw on an all black uni, it looks wrong, same for TCU throwing on black instead of purple and white. It is like suddenly you are ashamed of your school colors, as if they are just not good enough anymore. Do you see Bama or OU wearing all black suddenly?
They change the uniforms WAY WAY too much and are going a little too crazy with uniform designs in college football in my opinion. I feel like the NCAA should institute some sort of uniform policy like the NFL has. Like teams can have 4 uni sets total, home, away, alternate, and throwback uniform and thats it. Also, teams can not change uniforms for a minimum of 5 seasons...
Baylor fan: we want to go back to 2015. Vegas gold helmet (RG III helmet), chrome gold helmet, dark green, black, white, Vegas gold pant.. no more green and mustard.
TCU uniform downfall needs to be studied. Went from one of the most unique and interesting to the most bland and boring. They already had a small fan base and would guess their viewership falls significantly as theyll look out of place playing in what are essentially generic practice jerseys you could buy at the youth sports corner store.
As a TCU fan, I think they look terrible l. They look so plain. Most jerseys have been good. I'm not a fan of the great, but its okay. I liked the jerseys that had the red blood lines on the helmet.
Can I get pinned I’m a big BYU FAN
Me too! Best uniforms in college football. Maybe penn state. Between those two.
I know I am biased but i feel like WVU has one of the best traditional helmets in the country, the flying WV is iconic
Agreed, one hundred percent they do!
Dude I am a tech fan and that coal black out is the best uniform I’ve ever seen.
Glad we play yall at home so yall can’t wear it against us!

Husker/Cyclone here and I have to agree. they do unis right in morgantown. those blackouts are some of my favorite uniforms ive ever seen.

Facts man, I am a rare fan of TTU, TCU, UT, and A&M, so just all around Texas fan really and I’m so bummed that they simplified them
This is so true (coming from a TCU fan)
The WVU coal unis are awesome.
Thanks for the WVU love!
Wvu fan… love the new set and the coal rush is gonna be so sweet to see under the lights!!!!

West Virginia has always had nice unis. For the most part. GO UTES

BYU did wear this all white uniform in 96. It was the Washington game. After this game LaVell said he would never let them wear all white again.
Please do all the conferences!
TCU looks great. I love simple

I hope they do at some point! 🔥
Ute fan here. I like the all white from BYU. I also like it when my Utes do it. I guess I kinda like it when teams keep it the same.
I like the look, but why not wear the exact same color combination used in the cotton Bowl?? 🤦♂️
Looks like quite a few teams are copying Oklahoma State. I guess that's the benefits the Pokes get fron being a Nike pilot program. BTW, BYU unis are severely underrated. Definitely my second favorite uni.
If BYU fans are asking for 90's throwbacks, just stay away from the bibs, please.
The NCAA actually banned those.
