How fast it grows has a lot to do with the temp at which it's grown. Also, you want to harvest it right when the sprouts start splitting into two distinct leaves...it's at this point that it's the most nutritious.

Trying this method for all types of microgreens. All types of beans, lentils, lettuce, etc... Gonna use doubled newspaper instead of paper towels. Should be able to start vegetable and herb seed this way as well!!! ;-) thanks bro! Trying to boost my challenged sons and I's nutrition intake on a very small, shoestring budget.
This will help to turn a lot of those empty carbs into healthier proteins, vitamins, minerals and enzymes! Might even have a good chance to boost my metabolism and health after all these years! ;-)

Hi! Thank you for the tutorial. I have some questions, as I have never tried to grow it. 1. How many times can you re-harvest? 2. What do you do to the root bed when it has no further harvest left? Do you throw the root bed away? Please let me know.

    • @private7419
      @private7419 2 года назад +2

Usually, can only get two cuttings (at most three) when growing with soil, might be fewer with this method. Throw away or compost the root bed once finished harvesting.

Hi. I have a question. I once started growing strawberries (in soil) right in my apartment (to get them an early start) and I ended up having a fungus gnat (small flies) infestation in my apartment; I later learned that those pesky flies are very attracted to damp humid environment (to lay their eggs). Have you ever had any fungus gnat flying around while doing your wheatgrass cultures? Thank you.

1:39 it’s not clear if both trays have holes or just the lid.
But since it’s draining I’m guess both do!
I’m assuming the lid tray likely has holes just on one side, and the big tray has holes all over.

The seeds are probably damaged. Old seed or seeds that have been irradiated or sterilized won’t germinate.
Try organic or seeds designed for sprouting-you’ll get a better germination rate

Would this work if i'm trying to grow catgrass ?

That’s what I’m doing. Sprouted the cat grass seeds in the paper towel and today I spread them in the tray and watered. I will follow his directions and I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. We’ll see!

You don't have to keep it covered up then? I had heard in the first few days of wheatgrass growth you keep it covered?

You either sprout seeds in paper towel or add seeds to the tray and cover the seeds locking in humidity. Both methods work.

I'm just wondering how it gets nutrients...

    • @DaisyCreekFarms

The nutrient comes from the seeds. the plant does not need any external nutrient in it's initial stages as they nutrient is provided by the seed.

I'm sprouting wheat for wheat grass. I am curious though. There are a lot of sprouts. Can you eat sprouted wheat raw or does it need to be cooked first.

You can eat the sprouts raw. They have a sweetness to them. You have to do a lot of chewing though.
