  • Growing Wheatgrass Is Super Easy! Don't be frightened off by the high prices of processed Wheatgrass juices and powders. You can grow an epic crop of Wheatgrass right in your own home, for pennies, in as little as 10 days. There are 4 steps to getting this right, making it less than 2 weeks until you can harvest (and juice!) your very own organic Wheatgrass, right in the comfort of your own home.
    In this video, I will walk you through every step of the way, showing you how to maximize your germination of the "wheat berries" themselves, setting them up for the initial growth stage, and finally getting the crop ready for that epic harvest.
    If you're a gardener, this tutorial will be so simple you won't know why you weren't growing Wheatgrass earlier. And if you are a beginning grower, trust me when I say this is one of the easiest crops you'll ever grow!

    • @chrisrock1110
      @chrisrock1110 11 месяцев назад

      Hi Tom. Ive been growing wg at home for 20 years. The peach fuzz you mentioned is a fungus most likely. It wont harm you but it will stunt the grass growth - bin it all. Use organic seed only. Germinate seeds in a glass jar preferably. Half fill jar with seeds and fill to 3/4 full with good water. Cover and give it a good shake. Empty water and repeat process to clean the seeds. Fill again to 3/4 full and leave to soak in dark place for 12 hours. If there are any seeds floating on top of water - remove and discard - they are dead and will cause mould. Empty water from jar and rinse and drain seeds again. Leave jar upside down at an angle to allow excess water to drain for 12 hours and repeat rinse drain every 12 hours until the seeds start sprouting in jar. Don’t let them sprout too much. Get a 12” growing tray with drainage holes and add 2 inches of fine compost and compact it lightly into tray. Water well but dont over soak. Add seeds to compost. Dont have them piled on top of each other. Cover wiith newspaper and spray with water till paper is wet but not drenched and leave tray in cool spot for a few days spraying paper with water if it’s drying out.after two or three days you should see the grass grown to an inch or so. Remove paper and put tray at window that gets most sunlight. Spray with water daily. You want moist soil, not soggy, when grass is 3” tall you can gently pull grass and soil from tray to check that soil is not too wet or dry at bottom. If too wet dont water again until dry. Slightly raising one end of tray aids water drainage. Alternate raising each end - it helps to prevent mould and fungus. Oversoaking seeds and overwatering are the main causes of stunted growth. The grass needs fresh air too. Dont give up. Its trial and error at first. It gets easier and its well worth the effort.

    I grow mine for my chickens and my dad's pet guinea pigs; especially as in winter there's no regular grass around for them. The guinea pigs especially go crazy for it! But I don't bother with a growing substrate like compost, I just use a sprouting tray.

      Cut with scissors...leave about 3/4 of an inch...and you can grow a second batch... almost good as the first.. I've tried growing a third..but not quite as green..but 2 is easy peazy.

      Depends on how cool you mean. They don't need to be really all that warm. The top of your fridge is usually the warmest place in your house. Also, don't discount sunshine coming in from a window...that can heat up thinks quite quickly! Wheatgrass, Peas, Sunflowers...even Daikon Radish don't need to be super warm....just not cold cold, ha ha! :-)

I’m trying to grow it with and without soil, and actually, the batch without the soil appears to grow straighter and faster without dirt…it being over watered maybe the problem. I don’t know…my first guess was either too long under the grow lights or not enough. Thanks for the advice.
