Fred Gwynne was a gentle giant. He went to Harvard, he loved being in the theater performing. When playing Herman he suffered. He would sweat a half of a gallon to a gallon a day playing that part constantly drinking gallons of lemonade to stay hydrated. He also lost a lot of weight, with severe back pain. He once said thank you batman for canceling the show. He was an avid painter very talented and also he wrote children's books. As you can tell I'm a huge fan and found this man very interesting. I would love to have one of his paintings. I'm happy you covered this actor. One day I will visit his grave. Thank you for sharing 💜

I knew Fred as a child. He was a gentle giant. He would give me little hot wheels cars and do Herman's voice for me. I loved it. He also gave me one his books "The King Who Rained". On the inside cover he drew a picture of Herman and wrote a special message to me. All for some kid he knew in passing. I still have it til this day. One of my favorite people.

Yes, Fred Gwynne had a son who tragically drowned in 1963 in the family swimming pool. The babysitter turned her back, and sadly, he fell in. He had another son, who lived near Kingston, NY who was in a mental hospital. Nothing criminal; the poor kid had problems coping with life.
Fred bought a 300-acre farm in Maryland, with his 2nd wife, and just as he was starting out as a gentleman farmer, he got sick and died. 66 yo. He did lots of voice-overs in TV and films.
Why no marker? Because every Halloween, jokesters will come out and dance, act out terribly, and mess up his grave. Just like your video on GG Allin, although Fred's fans are not NUts like GG Allin's fans.

Judd from pet sematary was fantastic. Love him so much. He was awesome. The munsters would always get me to sit down shut up and relax as a kid. My dad, grandpa and I really bonded over that show. What a good man.

Maybe Fred thought his marker was the television shows and movies he left behind for us to enjoy! He was a great actor, loved him in Pet Cemetery! I thought he played bnb it exactly as Stephen King wrote him as in the book. The book is terrifying, and the movie captures the essence of it. Fred's part in the movie is a HUGE reason why it worked so well!

On vacation in 1972 to Disneyland, we went to Universal Studios, and Fred Gwynne came walking through the tour we were on greeting the people in his Munster Wardrobe. I did not know until I saw the show in reruns, that it was really Fred Gwynne and not someone there at Universal walking through the tour. Honored to come face to face with such a talented actor. Learned later that he was a very gentle giant.

I watched this show faithfully all the way through, as a kid! Loved it and I bought the complete dvd set of the show and my kids love it too now! A few years ago, the small town I grew up in Ontario, Canada had a Halloween festival of sorts and the man who played Eddie came to it and I got his signature on one of those dvds! So fun to have that! And my husband can do a mean Herman impression! After watching the video, I looked him up on wikipedia and in his personal life section, it stated he remarried a woman with the last name Flater. And when you were walking through that graveyard, in the video, I saw that name on one of the gravestones. Maybe a connection, maybe not. Just food for thought.

The guy who played shultz in hogans hero's was buried in a cemetery in mauer, viena ,Austria that charges annually for your headstone to be there and his family all passed away and his headstone is over the hill beside a creek with numerous others, I seen it with my own eyes and tried to get it put back but couldn't get enough help and funds he gave us so much laughter in the 70,s and 80,s and now his marker is tossed like trash. Truly sad
