- The Sherman tank has an ugly Canadian Cousin and it's called the M4A5 RAM II! I think when they designed this tank, they made a Sherman out of clay then someone accidently dropped it on a dirty carpet from a great height and this is what came out! :)
The M4A5 is actually a great little tank. It's armour is INSANELY good for its BR mostly with the odd little weakspot here and there. This gives it a bit of an edge too because there aren't very many of them on the battlefield meaning most people don't know where to hit you!
The M4A5 trades the Sherman 75mm for the British 6pdr 57mm high velocity cannon. It has a little bit more penetration than the 75 but with the downside being it has no HE filler.
Solid shot is genuinely this Canadian Tanks only weakness! Pretty slick!

20:55 It's an M3 chassis, not M4 :) I believe the story is Canada asked the US for tanks and they got a bunch of M3's, Canada didn't like them so they repurposed them, then the US came out with enough M4's for everybody and the Ram was only ever used for training. A few Skinks were used in the Netherlands i think, though intended for AA, the Luftwaffe didn't really have any planes left so they were used to great effect against infantry instead.
Really, the best part about it is that for a first try at building a tank, Canada did a pretty darn good job.
Skink is based on the Grizzly 1 (Licence Built M4) just wanted to clarify
I believe the story was different, at the time Britain had lost most of its tanks in dunkirk and couldn’t spare any for the colonies. So canada acquired a license to produce the m3 chassis so that they could produce their own tank and not take from Britain, the m3 chassis was then developed into the m4a5 ram tank

@@savagewolf5918 yeah yeah lol, it makes perfect sense as it’s British and uses British shit, it’s the grizzly chassis, and it’s a common wealth nation plus the uk has other lend lease vehicles like Stuart’s Sherman, m10, and modifications like the firefly so it makes a lot of sense to go to uk

Is it 1510? The wiki says it's 1150. Not sure if you mixed 2 of those numbers or not, but I can't actually check in-game as I already have it.
The M4A5 was my most played and highest SL earning tank until recently when the KV-85 passed it (because grinding events). And it's almost always my first spawn when playing 3.7 USA. And it's still holds my record for most kills in one spawn (around 9 I think). This thing can be a monster in a downtier.
My record is 12 but it was m6a1 in a full downtier where it was at the right br of 4.7

I got 10 kills with m4a3 105mm in one spawn it’s a really good tank
@@Miles26545 M6A1 was really good against germany and some other smaller tech trees. I once went through a game with no damage minus a few mg hits to tracks and got double ace with this machine.
I usually angle this tank 20-30 degrees while driving, and making sudden sharp turns when I hear the enemy fire. it is really hard to hit the small angled plate on the sides if you drive randomly and the center front plate is just volumetric hell for enemies. I bounced a lot of shells using this method.
Just bind the 37 to a fourth mouse button or some key on the keyboard if you don't use gaming mouse. I really like baiting enemies out of hiding with a intentional misfire of the 37, and if it's light, a fake miss with the main gun. Even russian is no problem for the 76mm, actually the 37 could shoot under the breach of t-34s and deal with almost all german tank's' mantlets or even the hull at point blank. and it has triple heavy MG for dealing with annoying trucks and AA
One fun story, once a Sdkfz was peppering me with it's gun and knocked out my commander and loader so I was actually unable to shoot it. It was trying to outrun my turret, (because it thought my gun was loaded) by running in circles around me. When it reached my front, I just pressed spacebar and two .50s destroyed it better than the main guns did.

While it does look eerily similar to the M4, I believe the Ram was based off the M3 Lee chassis. Regardless, just shows weirdly similar the early M4 and M3 were in terms of hull design.
The US medium tank program very much preferred iterative designs, since they allowed parts interchangeability between models, and a faster production time. The M2 Medium's running gear was preserved for the M3, nearly identical tracks and suspension, and similar dimensions. The M3 recognized that a 37mm gun was insufficient for a modern medium tank expected to fight a wide variety of targets from entrenched infantry to enemy armor. However, US manufacturers had yet to design and produce a gun mount robust enough to survive the recoil of the new 75mm general purpose guns, so the M3 had to compromise; keep the shiny new 75, but stick it in the hull, with a much sturdier mount that only allowed limited angles of fire. But a tank needs a turret, so they made a new cast turret, and fit the old M2's main armament inside, which in the eyes of the Bureau of Ordinance, meant it was better than the M2 in every way. But then they realized they failed to meet the machine gun quota, so they added a coaxial MG, another two hull MG's by the driver, and finally, deciding that wasn't enough, they put another turret _on top of the main turret_ and added yet another MG so the commander wouldn't be too bored. With that sorted, they put the M3 in production, using many components from the old M2. When the Sherman was finally ready(the two were developed at the same time, but the M3 was intentionally designed as a stop-gap), they were able to once again recycle components from the M3's, and get them out in record numbers in record time because the factories basically got to practice building tanks with these components.

@@whatdothlife4660 i can see what you mean. However, the Panzer IV felt like a natural progression from the Panzer III, compared to the glow up that the Sherman had over the Lee's "Frankenstein" dual guns.

Reverse is from the POV of the driver, not the gunner.

The RAM was an attempt to put a turret large enough to mount a 6 Pounder into the chassis of the M3, which had the problem of mounting the main gun in the hull.. The RAM was completely built in Canada, and it predated the Sherman, which was an all around larger tank by several months, though by the time it was being mass produced the US had brought the Sherman into far greater scale production. A 75mm gun Mk 1 could be shoehorned into a RAM's turret, though at a cost of fighting efficiency, while the Sherman still had room to spare.
I honestly like this tank a lot. It does well in uptiers as well because it still bounces a lot of shells and can pen things the 75mm can’t frontally. “German tanks”
This thing is the ultimate seal clubber. 4 sec reload, stabilizer, high pen, trolly armor, and decent mobility. Only downside is post pen but if you know where to shoot you can absolutely clean up with it. I play it at 4.0 with the razorback p47 the m4 the m4a2 and the m10. Counts as tier 3 for battle pass and challenges with this lineup too

The Ram was based on the M3 Chassis, the Grizzly is the Canadian M4. Fair mix up though since the skink was announced recently.

As long as I've had the Ram, it has been 3.7. I don't remember it being 3.3 and I've had it for several years. It is by far my favorite US tank to play... It's a beast at range

If I remember correctly the ram was a British design, that was made in Canada, that was used by American's and never was fully put into production.
I have always enjoyed playing the Ram. The gun is good, the armor is great, the ESS is pretty darn useful, and it has three machine guns! I'm a sucker for MG sub-turrets.
The Ram technically began production before the sherman and was based on the M3, which means its actually quite a capable tank for what it is and not just a knock off sherman. Of course though it was never actually used in combat and was replaced by the sherman after months of production.
I mean they did see some action as troop carriers ;(

The M4A5 Ram is my favourite tank in the game. Nobody knows where to shoot, so they go for the turret, or the VERY strong upper hull. The gun is better than the Sherman'a in my opinion because the high pen, and faster reload. I find t-34s to be a non-issue because of this; break the breech, safely murder. The fast reload lets you take on multiple enemies without issue. 6 pounder is my favourite gun in the game because of this tank! If only the Jumbo had this gun!
You're supposed to hit them in the transmission housing, right? Only like 2 inches of cast armor there, versus the upper hull's 3.5 inch, plus sloping.

This is one of my first premiums. The armour is so troll it’s just funny when it happens. I’ve been surrounded by a bunch of Germans and it took them an entire minute before they finally killed me

I got tracked in a relatively open area on Hurtgen Forest and calmly returned fire while bouncing shells left and right in this thing. The armor is troll-y on BR and is pretty tough to beat in down tiers.
Just don’t play it too much or else we will have it’s br bumped up again until it gets absolutely creamed into a new upper br. A
So I played the t126 a lot and I think I was a helping cause . of its br update to 3.0
The t126 was so fun in its lower 2.7 br because it could bounce shells non stop I hade a game where I was surrounded with a tank to my front and a starter tank at my rear and it took them about 2 min to kill me.
I also remember getting an he shells from the Sherman 105 on my side and just drove off because it didn’t. Really affect me and was just an annoyance.

As a Canadian I love it. It looks like it was made of maple syrup that settled and froze and then started melting a little and then froze forever creating a beautifully indestructible single piece of armour. Truly makes me embrace Canada. Sorry for the comment, and the unfair tank, eh.
M4a5 ram is one of my favorite tanks in game it has unexpected good armor for a med lol a few times I’ve been able to survive the kv2 and brumbare

Hey Odd, would you consider trying out the Su-122-54, thr fastest reload on a 122, 14.5mm machine guns, and 100mm of frontal armor angled at 50 degrees. At a br of 6.7.
Also has HEAT-FS and APDS if I'm not mistaken. I should give it a try.

Say whatever you want, it's beautiful. The only real downside is that it wasn't equipped with 75mm QF Mk.V... or if we talk about ingame tank, that Gaijin took out explosive filler out of all british APHE rounds for 57mm and 75mm despite what irl reports said to "balance things out" ie make the game easier for german and soviet player and make american tech tree even more popular. Not to mention how Ram II is somehow in american tech tree for some bizarre reason...

got this tonk last week!! I was looking for a better armored US tank at this BR and this one was definitely worth. Does well against KV1, T34 and other things...Panzer IV's are a bit complicated to deal with but you still can bounce shots. Pretty good gun as well.

This is possibly my favourite premium. I am happy to hunt KV-1s in this thing where I hate running into them in Shermans.
The armor may be a bit trolly, but mainly it's that people try to shoot the same weak spots as they do on the Sherman, and often that's where the Ram's armor is strongest.
Solid shot may mean it may take multiple shots to get a kill if you get unlucky. But the extra pen and the 6pdr's high rate of fire make it more effective that the spud guns on the Sherman 75s and the others that use it.
The Ram is a piece of bouncy troll armor wonderfulness.
For a second I thought the .30cal turret was a M22 turret!

This tank is amazing in downtiers! While it struggles a bit more when uptiered, it still performs well enough when played the proper way.
I encountered an m4 Sherman and struggled to pen its turret cheeks although I was at range but I did manage to take out its breach

The Ram is based on the Lee chassis. At the start of the war, especially after Dunkirk, there was a huge shortage of tanks. Canada did not like the Lee, did not like any of hte British tanks, instead decided to take the Lee chassis and develop a turret tank. A six pounder was to be the main gun. 1900 were built, but most were used for training. A good number were turned into mobile artillery, but most had their turrets removed and they were used as infantry carriers.
After the war, about 100 were given to the Netherlands.

2:20 It's 1,150 GE! I was lucky enough to get a 50% off coupon and got it for about 500, one of my favorite tanks to play.
Just to note on the Hetzer specifically, it has a little periscope on top that is very susceptible to HE rounds. I dunno about the 57mm HE, but the 75mm HE overpressures the thing in one shot reliably.

Oh hey! I've played with "sirmaximillian" before! Well, I recognize the name; they've been on my side and on the opposing side a couple times.
Don't forget at this time ... the best thing the Americans were building was the M3 Lee/Grant tank which had the 75mm LVG in the hull and tiny 37mm up top. The RAM was above what the Americans were building until the Sherman M4 came onto the scene a year later. Many RAM tank chassis became troop carriers/mortar carriers.
At 2:32 when you list the opponents this thing faces you say jagdpanzer 4-5 :D Well i know the Kanonenjagdpanzer was lowering its BR over the years to a comically low level but i cannot believe it hit 3.7-4.7 now :D

I was looking at that tank as I sort of prefer the lower Br tanks. Not a fan of the higher thermal camera warfare. Good review as it shows its a survivable chassis with smoke :)
