Old video but still found it very useful. One thing that would have been helpful would have been to provide links to the two types of shoes. For example, I'm looking for Latin dance style shoes - see the flexible type you have there, but close out of the video not knowing much more than that. I live in the USA and am unsure where to seek this type shoe. Thanks Michael.
I am happy you found it useful. I deliberately didn't provide the links as many brands offer variety of types of shoes and it is very personal. I would strongly recommend to try a few and decide for yourself what suits you best.
Thank you! Yes, it was very helpful. Thank you for your time and for providing great content. I will refer to this video to people who are interested in ballroom dancing. You make it easier.
I would like to know, which brand is the best for mens latin shoes in terms: max quality & flexibility to feel the dance-floor & the dance itself. I had Eurodance (cheap, not so good) and now i have RayRose (very soft, i like them) This is Good video. Thanks. 👍
+Luboš Schejbal Thank you Lubos. I personally found latin shoes of Freed very flexible and pretty durable as well. They have a split sole and the leather is very soft, it feels like you are wearing a sock which helps to feel the floor very well. The ones I had are these: www.freedoflondon.com/Web/Site/Product/61/0/freed_latin_flex
Thanks. What if i have no choice but buying only online and can't try them on first? What EU size do you recommend? I like feeling the floor with my feet and I am a latin dancesport dancer. My feet size : 22,4cm.
im just looking for a mens shoe for salsa dancing. i’m not having any luck finding a good shoe. any links provided or brand names to look for would be appreciated. O don’t know where people go to buy salsa shoes.
I recognize you like the softer, less structured shoes for Latin dancing…. But why? I’m new, 2nd lesson, and almost killed myself in sneakers, trying to turn, so I see the need for ‘slick’ soles. But I don’t know the reason for such soft/bendable soles and uppers.
The reason I personally like split soles shoes is to be able to point my feet with more ease when dancing Latin dances. It’s my personal preference so please try other type of shoes and see for yourself what you find the most comfortable. Wishing you all the best with your learning!
+Khammouane Khantikone I am not a specialist in Charleston but I found an interesting guide for you. Shoes for Swing and Charleston are the same so I hope you will find it helpful. www.flyinfootwork.com/guide/shoes/
Hello Keifer, many brands do this type of shoe. One of my favourite brands is Ray Rose. You can find this shoe there: www.rayrose.com/us/335-Windrush--Black-Leather--Standard-Ballroom-Dance-Shoes
I bought my first Latin open toe shoes. I wear a size 7, but my dancing teach suggested for me to buy 6.5 shoe. He said the big toe should stick out of the shoes a bit. Is this correct?
Unfortunately there isn't a universal formula. It all depends on the show brand as each has a different toe finish. The best is to see how you feel in them. Sometimes it takes a while and a few pair of shoes to find the best model for you.
I currently dance in International 'Killick Klassik' with split sole, they do feel super soft, like a sock ( www.internationaldanceshoes.com/killick-klassik-black-calf/ ). I used to dance in DanceAmo which are also super soft ( www.danceamo.com/index_product_view.php?did=41972&didpath=/41972&page=1&imgid=435454 ) I know that Ray Rose makes very soft shoes as well, just a question of trying them all and seeing what suit you best. Good luck!
Hello Elena, I am actually not an expert in regards to cleaning satin but throwing them in the washing machine doesn't sound good. Maybe try to search for some advice from specialists in this field.
I have big shoe issues… Primarily because I have very narrow feet and according to regular dance shoe sizing, all dancers have very wide feet! Does my head in!

+Daiva Mažuknaitė I am glad to hear that.
What's a "small" heel? 3", 4", 5"? Can you please be more specific?
Small heel is more like 1.5" or 2", maybe 3" if you are used to heels. I hope that helps.

Hi, great video! Have a quick question, where can I buy or what's the brand of the shoe at the 4:50 minute mark?
Hello Keifer, many brands do this type of shoe. One of my favourite brands is Ray Rose. You can find this shoe there:
www.rayrose.com/us/335-Windrush--Black-Leather--Standard-Ballroom-Dance-Shoes
Do you think I can use a standard shoe latin?
What do you consider a standard shoe?
What is the ideal material for the sole of a man's shoe? My goal is to twist and spin very smoothly. Like James Brown.
It is normally untreated raw leather soles which allow ballroom and latin dancers to have smooth action when dancing.
I bought my first Latin open toe shoes. I wear a size 7, but my dancing teach suggested for me to buy 6.5 shoe. He said the
big toe should stick out of the shoes a bit. Is this correct?

You are welcome
Michael, I have been having problems finding a Latin ballroom shoe with soft leather that would feel like slippers. What is the brand you use?
I currently dance in International 'Killick Klassik' with split sole, they do feel super soft, like a sock ( www.internationaldanceshoes.com/killick-klassik-black-calf/ ). What is the heels called on 2:40?
It's called a flared heel, it offers the very best in stability and balance.
do the same rules apply for men's shoes for salsa?
I am actually not sure as I don't dance Salsa.
How can I clean my satin ballroom shoes when they get dirty? Should I throw them in the washing machine??
Hello Elena, I am actually not an expert in regards to cleaning satin but throwing them in the washing machine doesn't sound good. Maybe try to search for some advice from specialists in this field.
Michael Litke Thank you very much!! :)
I have big shoe issues… Primarily because I have very narrow feet and according to regular dance shoe sizing, all dancers have very wide feet! Does my head in!
I just want high heeled shoes for men lol.
I am sure some men could fit in ladies high heels, just get a bigger size :-)
