I haven't even watched the whole video yet when I saw how kind you were to your dog when you accidentally bumped her/him. I love videos that include kindness.
One of my holdups for a project like this is because I'm an artist, putting down plain pavers is so boring. I could literally spend the winter doing pavers and then hire someone to install in spring....best of both worlds!!! Thank you for a great video!!!
Minimum of 4 to 6 inches sub base, but you may get away with 3 to 4 if down to sub solid but it looks like you are only down the organic soil and only using a hand wacker plate. I would also apply a slurry to each concrete pavers before laying onto the mortar and this will guarantee a good bond. Arguably over engineered which I tend to do, but it belt and braces. But as you said, it only you, hubby and your gorgeous dog that will be walking on your new walk way. Good video and good explanation. Job well done and it looks good.
I find mixing the mortar on a spot, try this, get a pair of rubber drain gloves up the the elbow ,hands and on your knees and mix with your hands like making a cake, 'literally' like making a cake, sooo much easier than using a shovel, I've never gone back - even easier in a wheel barrow hand mixing that is
I surprised myself coming up with the jig 😆😆 It must be all the hours spent working alongside my Dad that influenced me. According to my Mum, he's "jig mad" haha
Great Job! For me the hardest part of any landscaping project like this is finding the motivation to just do it. You did a great job and it looks good. Hans is as handsome as ever too.
Thanks so much :) My motivation was frustration of feeling I was stagnating in between jobs 😂 I think I needed to sink my teeth into it as I knew it would be a rewarding job in the end. And was happy to hang with Hans like the good ol' days. With us both working from home now, he's much mroe relaxed, chilling on his bed in the day 😂

great work, put some concrete stainers on the round stepping stones, set them off even more, some great stuff out there which you can carefully brush in with small paint brush or use a small sponge, light blue would go nice in there, leave one and paint the other and so on to give a great contrast

@@TheCarpentersDaughterUK it's such a spectacular idea! We have a grass cutting business and I'm constantly blowing decorative gravel around on my clients lawns. That would be an amazing help to keep them all in their beds.
I've found that stepping stones can be installed directly on to my soil, compacting the soil with a hand compactor as you've done in the beginning. But I can see why you've gone OTT here to show people what professional builders call "good building practice" so that they will guarantee the job and charge the customer more than is necessary.
I honestly thought some people would say I should have dug the whole area up and filled with hardcore, but the end use is all that matters, so agree... if stepping stones are hardly going to be walked on, then why not just place them on the soil? They can be easy and cheap enough to replace if they break over time!

Hi, Do I need a permit for stepping stone and gravel pathway in my backyard? N.B. If its already done what should I do since the city has to come in the future for a gazebo inspection?
With this being permeable... gravel and porous weed control, the rain can seep through I didn't need planning and because it's small. You may prefer to read this, but if in doubt, just ask your local council what is allowed: www.planningportal.co.uk/permission/common-projects/paving-your-front-garden/planning-permission
@@TheCarpentersDaughterUK The big advantage of a shovel over a spade, is the crank between handle and blade. This means you can stand (relatively) upright when using it and still have the blade flat to the ground, you can't do that with a spade.
