I believe that the Alex Casey we know is the Max we have seen in the first and second game, but taking the theory of the second game being the real ending, he moved on, changed his name and applied for a job in the FBI using his previous experience in the DEA and NYPD and ended up as a Special Agent. Not the best theory, but it is interesting to think about it.
For context, the first game is set in early 2001 (as early as January). So even though the console version had to remove the twin towers, it still doesn't make sense.
Speaking of 9/11, I saw a background picture of the Twin Towers very close to one another near the end of the game (when defeating the final boss), and that's on the XBOX version. Still got that game.
Max Payne in the GBA was a pain in the ass, it's so damn hard especially when you get to the classic final battle in the tower, instead of shooting the ropes down like in the original, your badly aimed grenades needs to stick on 1 pixel radio signals.
RIP James McCaffrey, The legend who made a game character lively and made him live in our hearts...😪

Also if you complete MP1 in New York Minute mode on PC you will hear the PS2 credits music instead of usual main theme.
