Ah, Ds 3 is the game I like replaying the most in the series simply because of the bigger focus on bosses. 7:01 Fun fact about Yhorm the Giant: the scream he makes when he wakes up is a scream of despair and hopelessness, as he actually wanted to be dead, he was known as the "reclusive lord of the Profaned Capital", he was the first ever Giant king, and the people of his kingdom (comprised mainly and only of humans) hated him because he was a Giant, he was selfless, kind, and used a massive shield and cleaver to protect his troops in battle, and he would lay down his life for them, until the profaned fire fell from the sky and ravaged his city, he watched his population burn to death and disappear, as his last wish, he asked his closest and only friend to put him to rest in case he was revived as a Lord of Cinder.
"Yhorm, old friend... I have come to uphold a promise. *Let the sun shine upon this Lord of Cinder!"*

Dark Souls 3 depicts a world at its end where all that was good has been turned to ash and the fire (the power which inadvertently corrupted it all) is fading. All that is left is a world trying desperately to hold on to the embers of what it once was.
The world persists by having the strongest being sacrifice themselves as "kindling" to the fire. Those Lords of cinder you saw are all previous champions who have already done this but as the world grew weaker (and as the next champion refused to continue the cycle) there was no one left to kindle the flame.
Thus the bell tolled, awakening the lords of cinder as a last resort, to sacrifice themselves again, but they abandoned their thrones an their duties. Some became saddened to see what has become of the world that they sacrificed to protect. Others have been driven completely mad by the darkness, and fight for control within themselves.
This is where you the player come in, you are an unkindled one, a nameless warrior who have not yet been driven mad by the darkness but who has the potential to become strong and become kindling atop the pyre.
You go on a journey to defeat and reclaim the lost strength from all the lords of cinder and at the end you are faced with different paths to choose:
You can choose to sacrifice yourself to let this world continue or you can choose to let the flame fade and let this husk of a world die in the hopes that a new world might eventually be born.
It is a really sad and grimdark end to a world. To think every powerful enemy that you have faced, every small piece of beauty that you have seen. All of it less than a shadow of what it once was.
Are you going to let the world continue until even the illusion of purity is destroyed and defiled?, or do you realize that the world has far passed the point of having a dignified end.

I'm a 28 year old woman with 0 reflexes and not that much free time. But I LOVE the Dark Souls series. I've finished Dark Souls 1 and 3, and I'm currently playing Elden Ring. So it's definitely playable by anyone who wants to play it, so don't be afraid to try it. I would recommend though starting with Dark Souls 1 and 3, and not starting with Elden Ring. Elden Ring is an open world game and it's easy to get lost and not know where to go next, and while DS1 and DS3 are pretty open, they're still linear games and teach the basics of combat pretty well. The games might not look like it at first, but there's a lot of lore hidden. There are pretty good videos like from the channel "The brother's code", but they're long (2-4 hours long for each game), although they cover most of the main storyline. VaatiVidya has a really cool series of shorter videos called "Prepare to Cry" that feature stories of individual character from the games, most of them pretty tragic. I would recommend starting with Artorias, link to video: ruclips.net/video/Ag60ZF-IdKk/видео.html .

Ok, I’ve not played any other Souls game but DS3 has been one of the best gaming experience of my life. Just the entire feel of “I died because I’m not good enough” and not because of an in game bug is fantastic to me. And then discovering some secret that might lead to even more secrets or finally beating that boss you took 3 hours attempting is a fulfilment I wish I could replicate when replaying again.
And with the lore, half the fun is trying to piece together what in the dark souls is going on. Probably is best to watch a recap of ds1/2 lore if you want to play 3 but knowing the lore won’t spoil your experience with the gameplay in my opinion.

Hi, Great video as always. If you want to play DS serie, I really recommend going from Dark Souls 1. I am not very good in this type of games either (Sometimes slow reflections, or too fast reflections, or just timing it right, but jumping INTO enemy attack instead of out of harm :D), But I finished DS1 and 2 with 100% Steam Achieves starting as Deprived (or its equivalent in DS1 - the lowest starting level and equipment) (Did not got to the rest so far, but they are on the list), and with a bit of patience and Soul farming (Souls are both as XP and Money in those games), you can beat New game (and even NG+) relatively easily.
Also there are very good wiki pages with everything, and even maps of every location with all items, if you need some help. Also there are many ways to build your character (and with enough farming, you can max EVERY STAT and use everything), but mine well tested strategy is "Hoplite", that is spear type weapon and shield with 100% resistance of normal attacks (this works almost on every normal enemy in both games), and it works on some bosses too (the rest have usually more than 1 way to defeat, usually magic or 2h weapons).
Just keep in mind that if you want to 100% complete at least New game (explore everything, get every item etc.), it can take well over 40h if you farm souls (even 100h+ with farming or loosing your souls a lot), enjoy the environment (Anor Londo, Majula...), so maybe you will do some off-screen farming, and focuson story progression if you will stream it :)
Anyway good luck with GoW 4 :)

Dark Souls as a series has amazing athmosphere. There's a lot of games in which you are trying to stop the apocalypse, or are playing in a post-apocaliptic environment, but not many that let you experience the apocalypse as it's happening. And not one that you can really prevent: it's not nukes or eldritch horrors, it is a cosmic event, the stuff that myths are made of.

Funny this kind of thing keeps happening, but I quite recently started doing another playthrough of the first game, eventually to move on to 2 then 3, so this is great timing. Good reaction as ever. These games are definitely all about the atmosphere, the vibes, piecing together for yourself what the story actually even is as you move through the world taking on the various challenges and monsters thrown your way. Good times. Cheers!!! Also Bethany, I'm sure you meant the Witch King of Angmar, leader of the Nazgul, aka Ringwraiths. Nazgul refers to all of them, not an individual, but I knew what you meant. Big guy near the beginning did indeed look like the Witch King of Angmar. Cheers again!

So there have been some updates in Warcraft videos, I'll add them to the last message.
Hey folks, there is a bunch of reactions from Warcraft universe for you. So:
Wrath of the Lich King Classic: [servers of older expansions with the same experience like it was years ago]
"Journey Trailer" it's made by one of the community members, you already saw some of his work, now he teamed up with Blizzard and made official trailer for them. It is pretty cool.
"Lore in Short - Arthas Menethil" it's the story you already know but it is read by Laura Bailey aka voice of Jaina so I'm sure Bethany will like it. :D
WoW Retail: [aka the main one]
"Legacies" chapters 1, 2 and 3 are out unlike other "animated shorts" these ones are connected together bringing a little hype and info for Dragonflight which launches this month.
    UPDATE:
New cinematic "Take to the Skies" and a short video about the new race/class combo. Both on Blizzard channel.
    Hearthstone:
You still did not react [at least to my knowledge] to "Hearth and Home" which is nicely animated short [almost 6 mins long] for the game
"March of the Lich KIng" is the trailer for the newest expansion bringing Death Knight class, it is short [little longer than 1 minute] but it has an amazing animation I wish Blizzard would make a show in that style to rival Arcane or something.
UPDATE: Outside official stuff, there is new Deathbattle between Sauron and Lich King [aka Arthas] if you guys want to react to it on your second channel.
And that's about it, when Dragonflight launches there will probably plenty of cutscenes and cinematics to react to, anyway thanks for what you do guys! Take care.

You get a better understanding of what goes on in the big picture by playing the games in order. Then you develop a sense of references and further network of relations of things. You could still play them out of order and have a decent experience, but I myself got the most out of it in order especially when it came to the characters I should know of. Seeing all of DS1 and DLC made DS2 more interesting. Playing from that early on you'll also play a bit more chess to overcome your enemies. For that big of a feeling in strategy difference some would say the first two games were the best where as DS3 allows chugging flasks as a strategy whenever. Otherwise the most unique feeling of Dark Souls 3 is definitely the speed of everything and the feel of the overall art and animations of the game.

Try 'em! It's the kind of thing where you start out thinking oh my god, this is so difficult, how can I ever get through an entire game like this? At your first time. And then you learn, and you get it, and you start doing well, and it feels amazing. They're exploration / find the story type storytelling games, which works great for them. Item placement, the names of things, the location of things, the descriptions, and the context inform the story. If you do play Dark Souls though, I'd recommend playing them in order because of the full impact of the story. Dark Souls 1 is the beginning, Dark souls 2 is the middle, and Dark souls 3 is the ending. 2 can be skipped if necessary. The series takes place over... untold eons. When I say 1 is the beginning, I mean the very beginning.
Each player character has a title rather than a name: The Chosen Undead, the Bearer of the Curse, and the Champion of Ash. Dark Souls 3 is, in my opinion, as perfect an ending as there can be to a series. After the years of build up, playing the games, examining every part of them for lore and finally understanding what is going on, DS3 brought a satisfying conclusion.

  • @HonkHonkler

FromSoftware does lore in their games REALLY good. You get bits if from characters, the environments, but most importantly, EVERY SINGLE ITEM you pick up has a little bit lore attached to it explain the events/people/things in the world. There's whole channels dedicated to just explaining the lore of the world of their games to people who are interested like _Vaatividya,_ who is arguably the best. MatPat _The Video Game Theorist_ (who you reacted to once already, explaining the whole FNAF story) did a really great video explaining who YOUR customized character is in the Dark Souls 3 lore.

What needs to be said 'bout the three darksouls games is : don't let yourself get frustrated. The game is fucking dark. And the game delivers to fill you with that feeling. If you manage to pull through you are rewarded with one of the most beautiful worlds, hidden Lore and story's in gaming history. Especially with Dark souls 3 and it's DLC's. It's nihilistic. But there is so much beauty in this nihilistic and dark world. And always something more to discover, just by reading Item descriptions and starting to peace together the big picture in your head. Also you played Star wars Fallen Order, which is not as hard as any of the fromsoft games but its a good entry. With darksouls you simply need to take the plunge into it. If you get into it open willed and motivated, well you are in for an amazing world, even greater setting and a cruel, dark dystopia in which lies so much beauty and heart

Traditionally speaking, all of the Souls games (Demon's Souls up to Dark Souls 3) are traditional 'Dark Fantasy'. Elden Ring shoots for that same kind of things, but with a slight twist to it by lending more story off the front to the main entities without relying on a ton of context clues. That said, most of the bosses in the entire series (Minus Pinwheel from 1 and... 8 or 9 of the bosses from 2) have INCREDIBLE art to them, and are very unique from a bunch of the standard fare in how they're presented. I would say for sure that if you can handle difficult controls, it's worth playing at least 1-3 from Dark Souls. Demon's Souls is supposed to get an HD remaster soon, last I heard, as is Bloodborne. I will stand by the fact that you'll want your first experience to be with Dark Souls 1, as it sets the tone for all of the others. Lifelong Artorias fan. He's so well-designed.

If you are interested in the Souls series I would highly recommend trying it out and giving it a solid chance for you to play and get good. You’ll hear “get good” tossed around a lot in the community but really that is what the game is about and anyone can get good. All the enemies have patterns to their attacks, weaknesses in their defenses and it’s up to you to take a moment, analyze them and figure out a counter. It’s all muscle memory. The difficulty shouldn’t scare you cause it being hard is a core theme of Miyazaki’s world.
The core theme being the human’s ability to face frustration or despair and have the will to push themselves through. Doesn’t matter how many times you have to hit the wall cause in the end all that matters is the wall came down and the harder it was the more satisfying it is when you finally do bust through those bricks. And trust me the wall *will* eventually come down. Dark Souls 2 actually had a gameplay mechanic that represented this part of the world/lore. In lore an undead has their conscious mind but it’s when they lose all hope and fall to despair that the become “Hollow” and become zombies that just attack anything on sight. In Dark Souls 2 if you quit the game for a certain amount of time you’d log into your save to find your character is now Hollow because you lost hope and gave up on the game. One of my favorite features honestly.
The game definitely isn’t there to hold your hand and I know these difficulty comments probably sound counter intuitive to selling it to someone whole is worried about not being good enough but the reality is no one who played these games was good enough when they started but they learn and that’s the whole point. I think everyone who is a fan can agree that it is one of the most satisfying games to beat since it’s a literal game representation of conquering your own frustration and adversity. I really do hope you guys play this series. If not on stream then just for your own private experience. And if you are super worried about difficulty, Elden Ring is most modern of the series and while many would say it’s updated mechanics give it a slight new level of challenge, it’s open world aspect actually makes a large portion of the game a lot easier as you can avoid and explore at your own pace instead of following a mostly linear but still incredibly built world like the previous games.
PS: Last thing, if you’re worried about playing them out of order you don’t have to be. Most people who’ve played all the previous games finished them not understanding what happened. These are worlds broken and forgotten to its own history. You’re just fighting through the last remnants of it’s chard ashes.

Dark souls is such an incredible piece of media. Through video game it shows how much potentials lies here. You can tell an incredible story, create a entire world like in a fantasy novel but make it interactive. You can add amazing soundtrack, visual, 3D modeling. It's probably the best ad for video game in general. You can create everything, make it believable, make it than entire generation that plays it, remembers it for a lifetime. Video games, as a medium, is still at its beginning. It's going to be the most insane thing entertainment as ever known in the future.

Ah the ring city the only area where players can defeat the boss to then become the boss for other players so much fun tbh also that dragon at the end in the ring city is every dark souls players pain 😅 has the most health out of all the bosses if i remember correctly the last 2 trailers being 2 dlc content that are definitely worth the time if you like the main game best to do those two areas before doing the final main boss otherwise you'll have to do the entire game again at end game+ which is pretty much the bosses and enemies get even more difficult as access to the 1 of the dlcs is in one location and the other is located right next to where you enter/spawn before going up to the final main boss

I use to think I'd never play any of the Soulsborne games because of their difficulty. Then I picked up Bloodborne on sale purely because I adored the esthetic of the game and I figured if I couldn't beat it I was only out like $10. I adored it and beat it.
I have now gone back and I'm working through the Dark Souls trilogy (and Elden Ring) and I'm really enjoying them. Yes the games are difficult but are nowhere as cruel as their reputation, and the Get Gud memes, make you think they are.
They're punishing and you do have to work for it but they are designed to help you on your journey if you pay attention to all the mechanics they give you (types of builds, summoning npcs or other players, manipulating AI).
You can of course make the experience harder by ignoring mechanics, which is what some people say you should do for the "true" Dark Souls experience, but I'm of the mind that FromSoft gives you those tools so why not use them?
Honestly if you want to try out these types of games I highly recommend Elden Ring since it is the most forgiving of the games.

I'd recommend trying them, Elden Ring isn't a bad start thanks to it's open world which allows you to increase your might, be it levels, items, or other ways while being stuck at a boss. Plus it's multiplayer so that's always nice, either playing it together or with your stream, or solo of course. (But multiplayer in my opinion is the ultimate "safeguard". Anyone can win with a good teammate for example.) Ironically God of War 2018 shares many similarities to them in gameplay to a degree.
The games have a learning curve absolutely, and that learning curve is where the 'idea' of this mythical difficulty comes from. But Vergil from DMC for example is tougher than the vast majority of souls bosses. It's just a different 'kind' of game. And honestly there is no other game that you can make so easy vs so difficult on yourself than them through player choice rather than just settings. From literally one shotting bosses to playing it naked at level 1. It'd certainly be fun to watch, but I understand it being intimidating as the marketing is all "you will die." which you will, but death is as much a mechanic as anything else is. It's not just a 'failure state' like in other games, for example, self delete runs exist, where you rush to get an item or spell early knowing you'll die due to the power of the area, but being quick enough to grab it before death. As you keep your items on death, unlike most checkpoints in most games.
Be careful though, the souls games rabbit hole is vast, and once you let yourself fall into it, there's no going back.

So, I know I'm late to this one, but I CANNOT recommend the Souls series enough. There is a through-line of story to them, yes, but there's long enough time in-world between the 3 entries that you don't really need to have played the previous games to still enjoy it. It will give you a fuller understanding of what's going on, sure, but one of the beauties of Dark Souls and From Software's approach to story is that the overall narrative is something that you can ignore entirely and still enjoy the game. Heck, you basically have to be your own personal archeologist and look through item descriptions and study the game's environments to piece together the lore of most relevant people/places. Or you can just go and fight cool enemies and kill awesome, tough bosses in a beautifully tragic world!

The only downside is the community is so passionate that it genuinely wants new players to succeed and experience the meat of the game. So there's even more backseat stream advice than usual. If y'all ever do try 'em, Dark Souls 3 is probably the best one to start with. It's difficult, but onboards the player best.
