‘Ashes’, the second single from Embrace's fourth studio album 'Out of Nothing' was released on 15 November 2004. The follow-up to Top 10 single ‘Gravity', the song was propelled to number 11 in the UK singles chart through the fan-led campaign G.A.T.N.O (Get Ashes To Number One). ‘Ashes’ also featured on Match of the Day’s ‘Goal of the Month’ segment for the 2004-05 football season, it also featured prominently in the hit film 'Kingsman: The Golden Circle' in 2017. In the video the band perform in a dark, dusty, abandoned theatre that gradually restores itself from dereliction as the song unfolds, a metaphor for the song’s lyrical theme of rising from the ashes of a failed relationship.

ABOUT EMBRACE
Formed in the early ‘90s, Embrace solidified their current line-up in 1996, consisting of brothers Danny and Richard McNamara, bassist Steve Firth, keyboardist Mickey Dale, and drummer Mike Heaton.
Their breakthrough came in 1997 with the indie anthem 'All You Good Good People', followed by top 10 hits 'Come Back To What You Know' and 'My Weakness Is None Of Your Business'. Debut album 'The Good Will Out’, released in June 1998 soared to number one and went on to sell over 500,000 copies in the UK alone, marking it out as one of the fastest-selling debuts by a British artist. Subsequent albums, 'Drawn from Memory' (2000) and 'If You've Never Been' (2001) both entered the top 10 before the band left their original label Hut Recordings.
After a three-year hiatus, Embrace signed with Independiente Records. 2004’s 'Out of Nothing’ album propelled the band back to the top of the charts, thanks in part to Coldplay's Chris Martin, who wrote the hit single ‘Gravity' for the album. The album went on to sell over 600,000 copies in the UK (2xPlatinum) and the band has now scored eight consecutive top 10 album in their career to date.

The happiest times in my life happened around the time this was out. An amazing coming of age summer spent laughing with friends, meeting new people, staying out late, living life. Also met the girl who changed my whole world and is now my wife. This song takes me back to those times.

I used to hear this being played on Virgin Radio all the time back when I was in secondary school all the time!! Always thought it is a great tune. after a while it stopped getting played on the radio and for 19 years, I never knew the name of this song or the artist. I have until today been trying to find this song. Today I turned RUclips and typed 2000s indie and went through the playlist and finally found it!

Fifa 06, nearly 10 years ago... what the hell? I wanted to be a professional soccer player back then, now I'm a computer science major who will probably have a desk job for my whole life... not sure which I'd prefer now that I look back... lol.

Hearing this song always makes me think I should be watching the closing scene to a US teen movie. The climax has happened and the stars are driving off into the distance with leaves skidding over the road as drive along, or there is a montage at the final party / tournament / wedding etc. So uplifting

Now, 17 years later, i look back and realize another half of my life has passed...
Memories of a time when the world was captivated very differently.
This song makes me happy, takes me back to when it was out before you could just stream or download a song at the drop of a hat. When people appreciated music the way it should be. A great time for music shame those days are over. Take nothing away from these guys tho a proper classic tune there 💯👌

I know FIFA 06 brought a lot of people here, but for me this reminds me more of the 2004/2005 period, that premiership season just felt special. And remember it playing on premiership years when Rooney scored that screamer against Newcastle, the best goal of his career, better then the City goal.

Great song bringing back great memories from mid 2000’s when Preston North End were a decent Championship team under the management of Billy Davies losing in play off final vs West Ham in 2004/05 and Leeds in semis 2005/06 and of course spending many hours on FIFA 06 career mode for the PS2. Never heard this song again until 2018/19 Lancashire derby between PNE and Blackburn at Ewood Park when the players warmed up before KO, led to a 1-0 away win with 10 men. Anyways great song and Embraces best song by far nearly 17 years old now since this was released !

I remember this song being played in an early trailer of a film called "Reign Over Me" featuring Adam Sandler & Don Cheadle. I'm pretty sure it's been scrubbed from the internet as I cannot find it anywhere, that was my introduction to this absolutely amazing song. Yeah! I was really hooked on misery and had no love for myself. I ended up needing some surgery from self harm. Now, I am so grateful and consider this song to be so sacred to me. It’s a love letter to my past myself, written in grace, but back when I was miserable i projected the lyrics as loud as I could on to someone else and thought “look what you did to me, look how broken you have made me”
