That's not even up for debate. That's a fact. DJ Premier just further it with is work on Illmatic. Rest in peace to Guru. Baldhead Slick
Gang Starr stunted growth?? huh??? They overachieved without sacrificing their sound. Gang Starr came out in 1989 and finally went gold 9 years later with their best album in Moment of Truth. They were never going to sell millions of records. They did more than what we thought they would do. Guru went on to do the Jazzmatazz series that sold a modest amount of albums, they did world tours, 2nd hip hop artists ever to appear on tonight show(Black Sheep was the first), and Primo produced on many multiplatinum albums. Gang Starr overachieved. There was nothing about their growth stunted. They achieved the impossible. Sold records and got love from mainstream artists while not sacrificing their sound through 6 studio albums.
And like Eric Sermon Recently stated Record Companies back then didnt give the push or invest into the Artiest because the bigger an artist got would mean a bigger payday would have to be given also record Companies would lie about the number of units sold so they could keep the profits and keep the Artist in the red ( Owing the record company). I also agree with what you said

Ninjas dropped classics (at least 2), went gold. They both did they thing solo. Primo almost 60 and still locked in. What more do you want???? How is Gang Starr stunted????
Yo I was thinking the same thing. If youre a hip hop fan a real hip hop fan not the mainstream b.s then you know theyre not underated or stunted. If you only know the words to radio songs then your not a fan of hip hop. To me mainstream is another genre
I guess because they aren't multi platinum, heavy air play, everyone knows, etc. They were underground, not commercial, and were at the height of the game.
I think he just needs a random topic of interest at this point to continue the Stunted Growth Series considering the fact that he has named rappers that already achieved success in their moment and have nothing else to prove.
Sorry, but Gang Starr was never stunted in growth as they never aspired to be superstars in the first place. They carved their own lane, stayed true to their sound, and dropped multiple classic albums- two of which went gold with minimal radio airplay. Their objective was always to make good music which they succeeded in ten fold while maintaining their integrity.
I believe Gang Starr is one of the greatest hip hop duo of all-time. Guru the rapper and DJ Premier the producer. From their early years to their breakthrough success, Gang Starr shaped the sound of hip hop in the ’90s. Gangstarr never went mainstream, because they didn't play themselves to have mass appeal. Also their content was intelligent/street Hip Hop, many wanted simple ignorant shit. Also Guru's monotone style was not for everyone. They helped create a subgenre in Boom Bap, so they didn't switch up and follow trends over their 14 years as a group. Both men were angry that they were not getting the same results and respect as many of their peers and suffered from having their partners getting bigger than them and doing outside production more successfully for other rappers. Unfortunately, the Jazz influenced monotone voices of Guru & CL Smooth didn’t resonate big enough with hip hop fans. Y'all need to get out your feelings - Gangstarr was strictly underground and were NEVER mainstream stars - they were too talented and influential for that to be the case - great episode and the subject is warranted
Rip guru
You should do Heltah Skeltah or Eve from Ruff Ryders
YEAH HELL NAW FOR THIS ONE GANGSTAAR REACHED EVERY HEIGHT THEY COULD WITH WHO THEY SHOULD G O A T S!!
Solar will get what's coming to him for taking advantage of Guru. That all I know.
With that being said, I think Guru has a slept on catalog. Down the Backstreets is one of my favorite songs by him.
He is sheisty for real. Trying to get Guru's estate from his family is a slimy move. He was and never will be good as DJ Premier. He is a footnote long forgotten. DJ Premier is still here
There is an interview with solar where he slipped up and said Guru was murdered..... It's still on youtube
I feel like Solar was bullying Guru, and he Solar wrote that letter 💯 another thing did anyone notice in interviews how Guru and Solar would dress kind of similar ?? I could be wrong but i think they were gay. But regardless of that R.I.P. GURU ✊🏾
I disagree growth was not stunted. Gangstar was right where they wanted to be in hip-hop. They never compromise their sound. Gangstar forever be icons
FACTS.
That guru and Jadakiss joint banging!!!!
It’s like their story should be read in reverse. The way Guru faded away is truly sad. The image of how they say his “friend” allowed his hair and nails to get while in a coma is telling
RIP Guru. You tweaking on this One bro Gang Starr is loved and renowned all Over the World And to this day DJ permier has produced classic joints for other artist albums 2 through 5 are regarded as hip hop Classics
R.I.P. Guru, easily the most slept on group in HIP-HOP, ever. Tho all the real heads knew how thoro they was
...
P.S. FUCK DJ SOLAR!!!!!!
GangStar stayed True!.
Preemo has the greatest beats ever and not just for Gang Starr.
Can you please do a video on Alicia Keys, Mya, YoYo, Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight, Will Smith, Trippie Redd, Saweetie, Alessia Cara, YG, Azealia Banks, G Eazy and MGK
Rip guru. Shout out to premo. 2 of the best to ever do it. Guru never had a wack verse and premo never made a wack beat💯👌
Man, rest in peace guru, I found out about Gangstar because Nas Shouted them out on Illmatic.
They had 2 gold albums they did they thing.
Gangstarr was hardly stunted. There's not a hip hop fan over 40 that wouldn't call them anything less than legendary.
I need a video on rapper Nine (Whutchu Want) please.
Peace.
RIP Guru
You forgot about 1999 Full Clip which was a greatest hits album which included the joint with Kci And JOJO
The track “ Discipline “ was and still is Dope AF, and very much still relevant 🔥🔥 R.I.P. GURU ✊🏾
I am not sure what you are referring to Gangstarr was not going to be corporate or any of that weird stuff to be more popular. Gangstarr is a STUNTED GROWTH? Nah bruh! Is this an April fools joke or something?
Trying to fight for all your boys assets knowing he has kids is fucked up
Soliloquy of chaos my favourite track out of many
GangStarr 100% Hip Hop group.
