Green is by no means a particularly interesting scotch , but it's pleasant, mellow and fairly well balanced. At the price point, I like to have it around for the reason that It's really approachable for people who are unfamiliar with or intimidated by scotch.
I enjoy this one. You don't always need or want a complex whisky and this is fits the bill. Just kick back and relax with this one. You still get sweet malty notes with some peat to kick it up a little.
Glad you enjoy it Peter, unfortunately I didn't 😔 Not that I was looking for complexity, it was just meh and for me personally if I compare to other 'easy sipper' single malts, it still doesn't measure up and and won't end up in my glass again 😂 As much as I want to, you can't like them all!
@@McIntyresMaltsto me it's made for mixing like even something basic like country time lemonade. On its own its not good but mixed its great and diluted to like 35% with ice its good...if you still have some laying around definitely try those methods
Thanks @@only_folls but I really only like my whisky neat, so diluting this down even more with a mixer or ice would make it even less enjoyable for me. I ended up giving the bottle away.
Personally I like this better than the Blue label hands down. And it's priced right. Not a huge blended guy but on vacation its economical to drink JW over single malts. Enjoy!!
I really wanted to like this one better than the Blue due to the composition and stats on it. On paper the Green should be far superior, but the palate never lies and for me the Blue tasted better, but is definitely not worth the price increase compared to this one.
I do too. The Blue Label is $400 here in Vancouver and that is insane. The Blue is overrated and grossly over. 40% ABV and nothing special. The Green Label is a 15 year age statement and reasonable at $105 Canadian for an 18 Year whisky blend! Cheers!
In Canada the Blue Label is %400 before taxes! I would never pay that for such an overrated, overpriced blend. I agree that everyone experiences different expressions in their own way on their palette! I respect everyone’s thought and expectations. I found the Blue very weak as well. For me the Black Label might as well be mixer. My love is delicious single malt expressions but once in awhile I have a malt blllend! Cheers!
You should try older bottles from auctions. They’re go for pretty decent prices. I got one from about 12 years ago for £40 recently - my god it was 10x better than the drivel they produce now!
Yeah this idea has crossed my mind, but I am a little hesitant after the experience of this one. Would hate it if I purchased an older bottle and it too disappointed me.
Thanks mate, yeah absolutely the value proposition here wins hands down for that alone compared to the blue label. If I was only talking about taste, however I prefer the blue label taste but neither is as good as a reasonable quality single malt in my opinion.
Really like this stuff, perfect for a hip flask on a summer’s day without breaking the bank. Similar fresh vibe but far superior to Glenfiddich 12 for me, well worth the extra 5 quid or so
I love the green label i tried it for the first time last night and it was the best whiskey id ever had to this point going from the gold to green I can see the quality jump up by a lot it made me appreciate the gold more and yet fall in love with the green and made me really excited for blue label its a lot smoother and less smoky than the gold and the gold has like apple caramel butterscotch flavors whereas green is a lot more woody and floral the smoothness is the first thing you recognize I think and as I learn more about whiskey. This makes me more excited for more expensive rare ones absolutely no bite to the green just like soft but strong like a hug from a friend you havens seen in years
Didn’t even have to think about this one, Lagavulin 16 for me every time, but that is because I was underwhelmed with the JW Green. What would you choose Brian?
@@McIntyresMalts For me here(The Philippines )Scotch is rare and expensive, So I usually go for availability and price. Lagavulin 16 love it one of the best I've tried . But I like the Green Label as well just as much as the Blue Label in fact. Lagavulin if money was not the issue , but since I'm a mere mortal I'd go for the Green Label, 2500 pesos ($45 usd) for the green label 7000 pesos($120usd) for the Lagavulin 16.
@@brianwelborn4128 Fair points Brian (Mabuhay by the way!) That is indeed a good price for the Green Label compared to here in Australia, and comparatively your price for Lagavulin 16 is more than what we pay here too, so I understand where you are coming from. In my market currently there is only about $40 difference between the two.
I'm a big champion for this dram. JW gets a bad rep from some of the snobs out there, but this one is undeniably good value for the quality you're getting.
It was ok, but wasn't as good as I expected, but I think that's my fault for trying it for the first time after I'd experienced much better and having too high an expectation on it. Everyone's palate is different, but that's what makes it so great that there truly is a whisky out there for everyone 🥃
I had a couple of bottles just prior to it being discontinued. quite liked them . Tried one after they started again... not nice... they tinkered with the recipe I think. Might have re-tinkered... brought it back to drinkable. I currently have one old and one new packaged bottles' from a few years ago. No plans to open... or buy more. I paid $60 and $65. That's it no more. Price is miles too high for a 'blended' whisky. I know I'm not comparing apples to apples here but the Cutty Sark Prohibition blend kills it and for so much less $. Gee even the Naked Grouse to me is better. The JW greens sit as a mementos only ... just my thoughts mate. PS: not tried the blue and no rush to.... thanks, AL
I bought a few weeks ago, and I do not like it, I will still drink it of course. For the same price, I prefer the gold label reserve. I even like the double black and the black more. The 18 years is by far better and for me even better that the blue, of course the 18 is way cheaper than the blue but the finish is way better and longer.
In terms of all the JW I've tried my favourite for flavour profile is the blue label, but the price is absurd. Best value is the double black / gold as you say.
Unfortunately, this blend never recovered from being discontinued in 2012 because of the low stock of the four contributing malts. The original JW Green had a rare balance of the four main malts. If you read the back of the label, it now talks about Lowland whisky, which did not feature in the blend prior to 2012. The last bottle of JW Green I purchased about six months ago, tasted of cheap Lowland whiskey and being a Diageo product, probably Glenkinchie. There is very little of the four main malts in JW Green these days. I won't buy this or any Diageo product now.
@@enesys if you like this one, the easiest place to start and recommendations I can give are the component whiskies that make it up - Talisker, Linwood, Cragganmore, Caol Ila 😊🥃
I’ve had the red and ended up using it to clean fishing reels, the black is drinkable , but I wouldn’t buy a bottle. Think I’ll pass on this! Great review.
I had this once and finished it the same night. It's a 9/10 whiskey for me .I would get another bottle. Blue Label on the other hand is perhaps not even above average.
It is a forgettable dram but it does the job of 'let me pour myself something simple to enjoy' and that's why I always keep one around. I think it's great value for money. Great review as always Wade, cheers!
