I just realised this might be the most normal scene in all of Harry Potter. There's no magic, no reference to it, not even a wand wave. It's just two ordinary people dancing to music in a tent. This is just pure emotion

I love how Emma mentioned about this scene, and said that though at first she thought the idea of it would probably be awkward, coz suddenly the director told them to slow dance through the song, later on she too realized how beautiful this scene really was and now it's one of her most favorite scenes in the entire series too. 😭💕✨

I really enjoy how in this scene, they're listening and dancing to "muggle" music. Harry and Hermione were both raised in muggle households, letting them relate to each other in a way that Ron wouldn't have ever really understood, but this is rarely touched upon in the series, and its nice to see them bonding over a small mundane muggle thing, in this magical fantastical world.

Though this scene was not in the books, I really appreciated it in the movie. Ron, though I love him, it was not the first time he “left” - he did during the fourth year, and returned again. During Ron’s absence to balance the group, Harry found out he didn’t have much in common with Hermione, Ron was the joy - but here you can see how they all have matured and grown closer as friends - that Harry can put aside his worries and think about his friend and try to cheer her up, even if just for a moment. Not once did he scoff in annoyance or impatience at Hermione grieving that Ron left here.
Harry is indeed brave - but they forget to mention a lot how kind he is. A close friend and I who grew up on the books were discussing this, and we agreed that Harry has “his mother’s eyes” for the way he chooses to see things, the world, and people, as Lily was “uncommonly kind.”

This movie is a minsunderstood masterpiece, I think the reason why people disliked it so much was because of the sudden maturity of the situation compared to the other movies, there is no more school, events, quidditch, it's just 3 kids against the world(literally), trying to survive while a curse psychologically tortures them, while loneliness gets the best of them, while longing makes them go crazy.
This movie is about the characters of Harry, Hermione and Ron, the other movies were about the situation they're in.

I absolutely love that scene. There's absolutely nothing romantic about it. The moment is so much deeper than Harry just trying to cheer Hermione up. It's capturing a moment we all experience at some point, when we realize that being an adult is difficult and nothing like we imagined it to be. When we yearn for the simplicity and nativity of childhood. Daniel and Emma absolutely nail this scene and the song choice really drives home the point. It's a really well done scene.

Everyone ships these 2, but when I look @ Hermione, I see an older sister looking out for her younger brother. Harry is like Hermione's younger brother.

Doctor Tokdoly Nope, they’re better as friends. Even Emma who has playing Hermione and knows her in and out thinks her ending up with Ron was good. Harry and Hermione are too alike and too predictable to be a couple, not to mention there’s no build up.
Harry Potterhead they shouldn’t have ended up together, because they didn’t love each other in that way. harry loved ginny and hermione loved ron. period. did you read the books? this scene isn’t in them, and ron has done countless things to comfort hermione that weren’t shown in the films.
Something I really like about this scene is that Harry and Hermione are both muggle raised. They are dealing with the darkness of the Wizarding World together and are finding joy from doing something that has no magic involved at all. It's almost like they are falling back on their routes.

people who say this is a romantic scene clearly don’t know the meaning behind it. hermione is literally sad because ron isn’t there and she loves him. this is a dance of friendship, sadness, and hope and in the end the final realization that hermione can’t truly be happy if ron isn’t there and that harry will never be what she needs. ron and hermione make such a perfect couple and something that emma watson has said is something i live by: “harry is the hero of the series, but not for hermione.”

I agree with this to a point. I like that the dance happened. It's a reminder that the whole reason they're fighting is so they can have a lot more moments like this. However, there needed to be a note from the director at some point in the early part of this (while Harry's removing the necklace and before he just kind of smiles and starts doing something goofy) that they needed to dial the sexual tension back by a LOT. Because for about fifteen seconds there, you could cut it with a knife, and that's not the relationship these characters have at all.
The amount of emotion in this scene without any words being spoken was amaaazing

The way she looks at him is also very intense and not just in this scene. I’m very curious to know what caused Emma’s constant direct and affectionate eye contact with Daniel throughout the films. Whether it was scene directions or pure chemistry, she never quite looks at Ron the way she does Harry.

That's probably why Dumbledore asks Harry about his relationship with Hermonie outside of class almost as if Michael Gambon was asking Daniel if he likes Emma.
Growing up, I only ever saw this scene from a Harmione point of view. However, now, I actually almost teared up rewatching it because it is so beautifully done. We all know that they're going to succeed in defeating Voldemort because Harry is the hero, and heroes always have to finish off their story well. However, there, in that moment, in the middle of nowhere, Harry doesn't know that. Hermione doesn't know that. They don't know if they're going to see their friends and family again. They don't know if they can save everyone. They don't even know if they're going to survive until tomorrow. And yet, somehow, Harry, the boy whose destined to save the wizarding world and his best friend who sacrificed everything to help him (even going as far as wiping her from her parents' memories), found the strength to laugh and to love in the middle of a dark forest, even if just for a few moments. Their smiles brought me back to their first years when their biggest worry was about evil teachers. To make this scene even sweeter, I heard that one of the producers was going through a divorce while filming and this song got him through it, so for all of you that say this scene was unnecessary and only fed into the Harmione ship, I just want to let you know that the meaning behind this scene is much more than that.

I thought I was the only one that loved this scene but after coming to this comment section I'm happy that others love this scene too, this dance was not romantic (as I see it in my opinion) but Harry dancing with his best friend. Love how the music is coordinating with Hermione's feelings, as she is getting involved in the dance, the volume of music gradually increases. Amazing detail.
I like how Harry takes off the Horcrux necklace from Hermione before dancing. Like "We don't need that negative energy around us while we dance our stress/heartbreak/grief out." :) Heck, Hermione gradually gets into dancing, smiling and laughing. Now that's attention to detail. :)

This scene is probably one of my favourites in all cinematic history because it’s just so beautifully simple. Two people dancing together to a lovely song in dark times forgetting everything that’s wrong with the world. It can’t not put a smile on your face.

I almost cried during this scene. You realize that these are young innocent children literally running away from death. I feel like the only thing holding them all up is their friendship and the fact that they'd do anything for each other. They're all risking their lives for each other and it has always been harry ron and hermoine from the beginning. And like in this moment you see the brother sister relationship between harry and hermoine and how much they care for each other. They bring light to one of the darkest moments and it's literally the most perfect scene. and the music ughfsiuiboafee

This is literally my favorite part. The first time I saw it, I felt warm. I felt the love their friendship has. This is so special because they grew together with a sibling type of love. It was their lowest point, not to mention Ron who left. It was very sweet of Harry to try lift Hermione's feelings up. Harry's action translated into him being caring and concerned for Hermione even though he himself is also struggling. I will never not love this!

When I was younger, I wanted Harry and Hermione to get together, but now that I grew older, I can see what J.K. Rowling tried to portray through their relationship. Love doesn't have to be romantic, grandiose, or otherworldly. Sometimes all we need is someone to hug and to spend time with, without saying anything. We can be like that with our siblings, our family, and our closest friends. Hermione was a sister that Harry never had. He may have fallen in love with Ginny, but the love that he and Hermione had was something special, and I wish everyone would find that person in their life. I am convinced that Ron and Hermione were put on Harry's path to make it up for the lonely years he had to endure at Dursley's. The Golden Trio is the best family anyone could ever ask for.
On a side note, we have to give a big applause to both Daniel and Emma for their amazing chemistry and friendship. Fans wouldn't ship their characters this much if the actors didn't perform well, just saying. :']

I was 17 in 2010 on the verge of college and saying goodbye to my childhood which this franchise has made up a huge portion of, this unexpected little scene tugged my heart string in ways no word can describe.
Same. Literally exact same. I graduated in 2010 and was headed to college. I started reading these books when I was 10 years old. Same age they were in the first book so it felt like I was part of the gang, aging with them.

This is actually one of my least favourite scenes. It’s meant to be a romanctic scene because they were supposed to kiss but it was cut out which is absolutely ridiculous proving that Steve Kloves didnt know what he was thinking

Prolly a bunch of fanfics about it out there, though I won't go exploring them. I prefer them to just stay great friends in the story. Besides, it would have crushed Ginny to bits to see that happen, plus Ron would have hated Harry thereafter. And Ginny would have loathed Hermoine, too, entirely destroying the dynamic.

This closeness this ease is something that I really love about platonic relationships-they are rare. The proximity does not matter. They are so comfortable with each other. The hug looks so comforting.

I love this scene so much. This dance was healing for them in so many ways. Of course you have the issue with Ron, how the way he left completely threw both of them off. But also the matter that these are KIDS who should be in their last year of school and are instead fighting a war, fearing for their lives and their loved ones. This was a moment to forget and be happy.
I love this scene because everything seems hopeless but Harry like his parents before him found a way as simple as it was to make Hermione smile. Also it’s just so cute watching them dance together and having fun. ❤
And I just love that this interaction was always platonic. He just wanted to cheer up a friend, and it worked. He wasn't trying to hit on her, he just wanted her to be happier, because she is his friend, and seeing her that way hurt.
I remember being a teenager and being amazed at how beautiful Hermione was. This scene was and still is so moving.

"I'm hanging in there don't you see in this process of elimination" is literally the best possible one-line summary of the whole movie. Harry, Hermione and (for the most part) Ron are literally hanging in there while Voldemort and his supporters systematically eliminate opposition.
