Art Schlichter is such a sad case. Being from Detroit we used to have an Arena Football League team called the Detroit Drive. Team was wildly successful. In the league for 6 years from 88 to 93 and played in the Arena Bowl each year, winning 4, including a 3 Peat in their first 3 years. Schlichter came in 1990 and was phenomenal. Won AFL MVP. Spent 91 with them then traded to Cincinnati. What a lot don't know is Mike Illitch was the Drive owner and only sold them because he bought the Tigers. Mr. I loved Art. Him and Drive GM Gary Vitto both did all they could to help Art, but couldn't get him on the right track, which lead to the Drive trading him. Such a sad and honestly pathetic story.
There have been a lot of quarterback busts in recent years, but there are some of the worst in NFL history. Johnny Manziel was drafted by the Browns, but his career was derailed by off-field problems and poor plays. David Carr was drafted by the Texans, but he struggled with a porous offensive line and never found success in the league. Blaine Gabbert was drafted by the Jaguars, so he had a very disappointing NFL career and never became a reliable starter. Matt Leinart was drafted by the Cardinals, then after his very successful career at USC, but he never lived up to his expectations and was out of the league by 2012. At last not least is Robert Griffin III who was drafted by the Redskins, but his injuries and poor performance had limited his effectiveness and he was never the same.
Are you kidding me? Johnny Manziel was and always will be the biggest quarterback bust in history in my eyes. He didn't care about football in the first place and should have never been drafted.
@BostonBori92 That has nothing to do with being an NFL bust. What you did in college means nothing in the NFL. Manziel didn't care about football and should have never been drafted.
@@johnnymason2460 Yes it does the OP said he shouldn't have been drafted he beat Alabama and won a Heisman as a freshman 😂 like was he not focused and did he not care about football sure But he revolutionized the position in college and now every mobile QB that's under 6'2 gets drafted in the 1st round I know this hard for ppl to grasp but without JM we don't get Russell Wilson we don't get Josh Allen we don't get Jayden Daniel's and Caleb Williams
Other than flubbing a few names, what statistics are wrong? If the stats are right, the years are right, and their career was a flop, does it REALLY matter? "I was going to listen to this guys opinion on Paris, but he pronounced it weird so now nothing he says is valid" is a weird take.
Schuler while a bust, was also unfortunately damaged by the timing of his drafting. The salary cap started in 94 and I believe the Redskins were one of the teams most hurt by the cap at the time needing to shed contractual weight. That's why they drafted him, as they planned to blow it up and do a rebuild. Which meant he wasn't in a great situation as it was. The other issue is new contractual language for rookies at the time prolonged what was viewed as a "holdout" by the player and put him in a real bind when it came to learning the playbook getting snaps and in general being ready to play. It also hurt his perception by fans. The issue was not a holdout issue, it was a language issue in which his agent the the Redskins did not understand how a "buyback" clause worked in the contract. This is something many contracts hold today and is usually (with some organizational exceptions like San Diego/LA under Spanos) a minor point that is moot. He ended up missing training camp and I believe didn't even get going there until July, way late in the process for anyone but especially a rookie in the era where rookies were not expected to start and the rules did not benefit new passers like today. It was revealed the reaction by fans (ie negative) early on damaged the young Schulers confidence as he had never been disliked by people in such a way and with the situation described (along with a fan favorite Gus Frerotte) Schuler just never got off on the right foot as a player and was ultimately failed by the organization that selected him. That being said, his biggest failure might've been choosing the Saints for playing time over the Packers, who were known to develop QB's at that time, once it was clear both sides needed to move on.

You pronounced Marinovich’s name about ten different ways.
