I have a Pavilion G6 2260SM, it died in 2015 and it's just sitting 4 years because I've never found what is the problem.
One day the laptop was just idling and on desktop background. I grabbed the mouse and the cursor didn't move, so it was frozen totally. The only thing I could do was to hold the power button to force shutdown. From that point there was no display when turned on.
Going to shops that repair hardware, they just say: "Well, the motherboard died and you need a new one."
It has a dedicated HD 7670M GPU and the CPU is an A4-4300M.
It turns on, the fan is spinning, but no display. I just have a soldering station with a soldering iron, I do not have the heat gun. I could give it a try. Thank you for this video.
P.S. I've heard when most laptops have this problem, when you connect an external monitor you get a picture, but it doesn't make sense to me. My laptop doesn't display picture even on an external monitor connected to VGA port.
I was looking on my motherboard, I found the coil but I can't find R550, biggest resistor number I can find is R545 and there is no resistor there. Our motherboards are similar but not the same.
    Mine is DA0R53MB6E1 REV:E

You can turn on the laptop in safe mode and disable the amd graphics chip in device manager too. it will be easier. I too had the same problem and it solved the issue. If you do not disable the amd graphics chip, the os downloads the graphics drivers automatically and again you get black screen because the graphics card has malfunctioned.

      Hi,
Thanks for your comment and for your feedback, and yes, you are absolutely right. You can most definitely do it that way, but to reduce the power consumption and the stress of that happening as you said, i think it is a wise choice to manually disable the graphics chip hardware and never have it happen again, but i will let your comment Pinned so people can have that option too... Thanks again ;)

My neighbor has the same laptop with the same problem. But his does not have a dedicated GPU. I removed RAM, SSD, and connected it to an external monitor and nothing works. I'm assuming its a motherboard issue, maybe CPU.

  • @1videoshow

Ok, so you disabled the separate graphics chip. (removed coil and jumper). So then it will boot just use internal INTEL / AMD graphics, as if there is any separate graphics chip present. Clever. Which this would be just a SWITCH on the hardware user-interface.... as the power button ;)
Maybe an external monitor then after this fix is not possible anymore? Maybe.

      Hi,
I'm Sorry, but I didn't understand some parts of you message.
But yes, the main Graphic chips is disabled and the shared Graphics chips that is part of the Chipset steps in to do all the work.
Yes, if this doesn't work for you, you might try using a external LCD because sometimes that works. And maybe try and make a All in One Computer like in DIY Perks ;) Check it out... it turns out Great!

can you elaborate? so the coil powers the dedicated video chip? and what about the resistor? I guess schematics are needed for other models, or is there a way to track this if you know what to look for?

      Hi,
Did you flash the BIOS also? That's something you should do.
There are a number of things you could try to figure out the problem, first you can try and reflow the graphics chip to see if that's the problem, if not then clean the memory and memory banks, if not then clean the CPU and you can even try reflowing the CPU Socket because there are some models that have that issue.
      I hope that helps.

@@NeoStreamLive Hi, the cpu can be faulty due to a number of issues, but they are not that expensive, you can order one on eBay and change it if you find your current CPU slower. . . I mean that can happen, since these some of these new cpu's have a graphic chip integration, then it could cause problems, but sometimes it could be a power consumption issue and if you change the CPU to a slower with less power consumption, then just changing it can solve the issue. Hope this info helped.

Why is it that a reflow only is expected to last a short time when if you replace the gpu everyone says that it will last? Thanks

    • @Fixepedia
      @Fixepedia  3 года назад +2

A reflow only melts the internal solder to provide a temporary connection. . The problem is actually the inside of the chip, that's why a reflow or reball in most cases is temporary. Granted, there are cases where the chip is fine but the solder balls need a reball.
A new chip will work if the chip is new or it didn't have any problems when the salvaged it. Normally it's virtually impossible to get a really new chip, almost all are refurbished, and the cheap ones normally come with issues. . It's always a shot in the dark, I would advise buying from a reputable source, even if it costs a bit more.

@Fixepedia  6 лет назад +1

      Boa sorte.

    • @Fixepedia
      @Fixepedia  6 лет назад +1

Hi there !! i was searching and searching to find a proper video like yours in ENGLISH so i can understand why/how this is done. THANKS V much !!!
A Question if you have time to read this...
A few weeks ago my RADEON GPU worked just fine sort of, sometimes while playing some older games like GTA SA i would get a freeze and machine would restart but nothing more.
4 days later i updated my HP's BIOS to the latest, and did a fresh install of windows...
Here's the problem... since the update and windows fresh installation, i can't get my GPU to work again, i'm not sure if this is a software issue, hardware issue or that HP maybe programmed their bios to kill off all last surviving Radeon GPU's in the G6 Series, because whatever i do, that card is not working, windows reports error code 43
Question would be: Do you happen to know if this would be rather a hardware problem or maybe software ??? i tried all drivers available on the internet from A-Z and 4 different windows OS's and had the same result.
I also own a HP G6 2303SQ Board that i can confirm has a dead GPU, since whenever you install AMD driver you would get BSOD making it unusable.

      @Fixepedia  6 лет назад +1

Robin SAS Hi, thanks for the great and kind feedback 😉
Yes. . . I'm gonna guess that it is a faulty GPU, from what you told me about the problem that it gave prior to the fresh installation and Bios update. And from experience, Bios updates always improved performance on the computers that I updated. I would open the computer and check and see how bad is the clogging in your heatsink. If its clean and your thermal paste is still good, then I would try to troubleshoot drivers, etc. . But if it's clogged and got dried up thermal paste then it's most likely the Gpu Hardware failure.
Your other laptop is probably the same as this one in the video, try and see if you can fix it, and if so, come back with some feedback, I'll be curious to know how it went.
      Cheers

    • @robinsas9571
      @robinsas9571 6 лет назад +1

Hello Fixepedia. I think it might be a hardware problem, it drives me to believe that the updated bios might came with some instruction that diagnoses faulty hardware which in end prevents the issued hardware from working at all idk. Or it's end time just arrived...
But i will as a last resort give it a try with a fresh updated OS and driver's.
if it still won't bring nothing, then i'll just shutdown the GPU for better CPU thermals.
..sure going to be fun for me to switch that TINY little rezistor without damaging the board...with my "Soldering Gun" Some guy said i should just remove the COIL, but then i wonder why all the people in the videos switch the rezistors too, Well i'll be coming back later in the future with an update on this. BYE & Thanks for replying.

Robin SAS Hi, yeah. . It might end up being the best option.
Yes, you have to change that resistors location, because it is a "jumper", and it is that sequence that determines if the Gpu is active or deactivated 😉
      Best of luck.

Hi, just wanted to post an update on this. I've managed to Reposition that rezistor and to remove the coil. the rezistor was the hardest part, but i managed.
About the temperatures which was my main goal - i'm not so sure that it helped, since i don't notice much of a difference in thermals.
So if anybody want's to deactivate dedicated GPU for thermals only don't expect too much of it.

Robin SAS Hi, did you manage to clean the heatsink, clean their thermal paste and put in new and quality thermal paste?
      Cheers

This laptop has dual GPU ?

Hi, Yes... it comes with the dedicated AMD Graphics chip, and it has a Intel Chip HD Chipset that i think in this case was a (Mobile Intel® HM76 Express Chipset), basically the method on this video is for someone that doesn't mind giving up their dedicated GPU Chip and just wants to surf the web, deal with normal everyday tasks, then this is the choice for you. This repair serves one purpose, that is to deactivate the dedicated AMD Gpu Chip and activate the UMA intel chip to be the primary graphics card.
      Cheers

I tried removing the battery for whole night than pressing the power button for a minute than connect charger only but still it shows black screen ,I even tried external monitor but no luck , I removed CMOS also but still same . Power button glows white ,F12 glows amber but display is blank , only I can see a white led blinking on LAN port . And the laptop turns off automatically after a minute when it heats up .

Hi, If you have the tools to perform this repair, and if the board is the same i would highly suggest you try it out... you got nothing to lose ;)
Hope to hear some positive feedback from your repair.
      Cheers

ok... Then that's gonna be hard... with a bit of patience you could try doing it with just a soldering iron but i will be pretty difficult... I would take it to a repair shop and ask for a estimate on this job.
      Cheers and best of luck.

Boas. . Desculpa lá aqui o atraso na resposta. . . Fico contente que tenhas conseguido reparar a máquina 😁😁😁
Ya. . . . . Andamos ali a trocar fontes e a medir tudo e quando vamos a ver é o botão on/off. . Hehehe. . Anyway, faz parte do ofício.
