I had the 1983 prototype built before june. Stock it would run 140mph. Chrysler didn't want the digital dash so in July of 83 production started putting in a analog speedo. Splitfire plugs make a huge difference in these cars. In Florida the dealer had to install a mod for the the turbo by putting in a high volume oil pump to enable the turbo mod. The turbo was water cooled when stock but the turbo bearings kept failing. With a modified bearing housing the bearing was cooled by water and oil. Those high volume oil pumps were expensive. Sometime in the 90s my steering box blew a seal and there was only one in a junkyard in my home state of Florida. I had it going so fast the front end would float. Fun car
89 Chrysler Conquest in electric blue was my first car! Loved it! Automatic sunroof fully loaded. Loved the Recaro seats and double din deck! I like it so much, I have owned 3 of them in 1994-1995 in Los Angeles. A silver narrow body, and white and black wide body. The black one was Dodge. Amazing cars. Oh... and in Switzerland, I owned a red one, just like this one. That makes it 4.
Brings back great memories. Always loved this car. In 1990, I purchased a new Mitsu Eclipse GS Turbo which was the replacement for the Starion. At that time, the dealer had a few Starions left on the lot and one was in the showroom. Almost said forget the Eclipse, give me the Starion as I liked the styling more. However, the Eclipse had more muscle. Congrats on the purchase and enjoy.
@@asherdeangelo3268 You are correct…the 3000GT was the replacement for these👍 I’ve owned my ‘88 Conquest TSI since ‘92 & I will NEVER sell it, it is in Very good shape all original. Only thing I did (and I know it’s a big deal), was color change it from Red to Pearl Black about 15 yrs ago, but the car looks AMAZING in the color changing Pearl Black👍
This was my dream car as a 12 year old kid. Back in 1988, We used to ride our bikes 4 miles to the local Chrysler dealership to drool over the 88 Conquest widebody TSi turbos. I still plan on owning one someday, if I can only find one in half descent shape. These cars still look sexy even to today’s standards. They had gorgeous leather seats, and those staggered wheels 😳 omg! I’m in love with this Starion!! Nice find buddy 👍🏻
Bought a white with red interior Conquest TSI in the mid 90's, I loved that car! Funny story, back then, 16 inch tires were not common, and of course not knowing this, I proceeded to smoke the tires everywhere I went. My surprise when I found out that speed rated 16inch 50's were over a hundred bucks a piece. That was high back then.
This is the car my dad had when he met my mom. She was working at Burger King while in college and my dad came in and she said her girlfriend was like "ohhh look at his car" 😂 Rest was history.
Love it!!! Started with a Shelby charger, few cars later up to an ‘89 Fiji Blue Conquest TSi., then a 300ZX twin turbo. Was looking for one of these for a mid-life crisis project car. Until an ‘87 Grand National wound up in my garage.
I had an 85 Shelby Charger as a teenager (1988), I still have an 87 Shelby Charger and an 87 Shelby GLHS. Always wanted the z Twin Turbo, but never moved on it and the Grand National - LOVE to have one.
First sports car I fell in love with, it is still one of the nicest designs ever (similar to 944 with the wide fenders, once titled in a magazine “The poor mans Porsche”).
You got good taste that was my dream car back then, i'll take either one the 5.7 or the 3.8 supercharge i had a buddy back in 2008 he had a purple/blk 1997 Pontiac Firebird 3.8 supercharged with the his /hers glass drop top w/posi traction mode and he used to roast the tires on that Pontiac. i went back to see him last year but he wasn't home, but another friend told me that he was driving a pick up truck now but i plan on going back to see if he atleast still has that body and see what condition it's in before i make an offer that was a handsome car back then and in great shape before i moved.
I have an 84 Dodge Conquest with under 30K. You’re right, they are no speed demons, but a fun car to drive and they get many lookers and head scratchers. LOL Can’t find many stick shift cars anymore.
Bought an 87 TSi new, had it for ten years till my nephew just won’t stop begging me for it. He disabled the waste gate and grenaded the engine within a month even before he paid me for it. I loved that car! Build Quality better than a new Mercedes 190 I had at the same time. Must say, I cringed when you slammed the passenger side door, that was totally unnecessary, you could push these doors closed with one finger… never ever had a car with better fitting doors, just amazing.
Ohhhh man loved this car. Had an 87 Starion the only mod i did to it was on the vacuum side of turbo i put on a brass fish tank air regular to give me more boost. Instead of the 7 psi i was able to get at least 15 psi from the stock turbo. Enjoy the car!
I had a JA starion (1982 Australian model) street track car, engine was a modified 2.4 litre single cam 8 valve , mpi manifold, ex group A ford seria turbo a picked up from a group a race team selling of there old parts ( was in 1992) had a close ratio 5 speed ( group n race car) 4.11 limited slip diff ( ex group n race car) aftermarket efi, boost control with anti lag. Just on 400rwhp, had full coil over suspension. I had a lot of fun doing super sprints and hill climbs, did take it drag racing a few times, lots of wheel spin but did manage a fly 13 second pass at 125mph. Sadly life got busy being self employed, the car was high maintenance, brass button clutch was not fun on the street , last straw was getting booked for spinning the tyres getting it moving from an intersection, I didn’t notice the unmarked police car. Of course once they seen what was in the engine bay, the car started getting a lot of unwanted attention by the police. Sold the car, a week later the new owner wrote it off in a car accident. Was a regret selling that car and now if you can find one there wanting a lot of money!
Amazingly clean car. i sold these at McPeek Chrysler Plymouth in Anaheim, Ca. from 1985 to' 89 and absolutely love them. Yours looks like new. Even the paint, which is a difficult color to explain because it's got a touch of pink/orange? that almost glows in the dark. I finally got to buy one in 1999 and loved it, however it was stolen three years later. It's nice to see that these are still getting love. Enjoy!
Honestly my friend. That car would be an excellent engine mod car. If you find the right shop they could install forged pistons, rods and other parts. Put a big turbo on there and have it tuned professionally. For about $8,000 you could squeeze a reliable 500 H.P which would absolutely make that car a screamer. Something to consider and it would an absolute blast to drive.
if itwerent sooooo perfectly stock and nice, i would consider it, but the way these things have been selling in nice original shape makes me think twice.
My brother and I both had Conquests. I had a 1987 Black on black manual and my brother had a 1989 Seattle Silver with black interior. I actually threw away the stock stereo, sorry! Best piece of advice I can give you. These were known to blow turbos all the time. In 1989 they put an intercooler on the turbo. My turbo was rebuilt and lasted just another couple months. The 89 turbo sounded different. My 87 turbo made a screaming sound. In the end I traded for a fox body Mustang LX 5.0. The Conquest had superior handling if you had the Z rated tires. Nice car man! Glad to see this one in an unaltered condition! My current sports car is a Nissan 370z manual highly modded.
The 88s also had intercoolers, mine does as well from the factory. Yes turbos were a weak point. I have a spare one in my part stash for when the time comes
This is one of my favorite card, back in the day I owned a talon TSI, 5 speed and in my area always raced a conquest and I take it off the line but it would always take me mid to top end! I found one for sale by my house, cheap, runs but in bad shape, thinking about getting it!
My dad has a 1987 Chrysler Conquest he bought in ‘90. Had around 60k miles when he bought it, no clue how many it has now. I think I’m going to try and buy it.
Wow! Brings back so many memories....I owned TWO of them in my life: 1988 Red TSI and 1989 Black TSI. Both of the were the top models which had the only real options available at that time for these cars: Sunroof, Adjustable Struts, and wider wheels - 16x8 Fronts and 16x9 Rears! One of my biggest mistakes in life was selling them both about 20 years ago.....😢😔😩
It's called shp ...sport handling package....not many exist today. I found one a few years ago and in mint condition..I actually teared up when I got it. The car goes for big bucks ...mines an 89 the rarest but the common red...they also have an interior upgrade that is very rare as in 5k if your lucky enough to find..I found one in Charlotte but the guy did not want to sell. His car is an 89 with less than 3k miles on it... to bad you cant post pics on here

Great car, had these in the UK. My bucket list car is a Ford Escort RS turbo MK1 the first generation and was only in the UK and maybe Europe...Sadly you did not get these in the US. A thing of beauty and something I wanted so badly as a teenager...Sadly I never got one but did get the second generation RS Turbo.
I think the steering wheel difference was a model year thing. I think both Conquests and Starions got the same wheel for the 88-89 model year - maybe even 87, but not positive.
yeah great channel we subbed ofcourse and Hello from Amsterdam the starion was a great car for me in the 90s i bought it for 1400 dollar from germany.. my model was the narrowbody 2.0 turbo intercooler zilverpaint.. A Cool Powerfull SuperFast Beast!
I have an 87', black on black. It is in pretty good shape throuout. I love that car and will probably keep it for the remainder of my time on earth. About the dash, they don't crack. They were made with some kind of very high quality plastic that stands the test of time, indoors or outdoors.
I've had two of these an 88 and 87, and I kept them till I couldn't repair them economically anymore. Beautiful design inside and out and it still looks sci-fi futuristic compared to most cars. In the nineties I could find parts for them at local junk yards but that became rare and the junkyard owner said they send the cars to their graveyard to be crushed 😢, so it became impossible to find parts.
I had one of these in the UK back in ninty seven , in the UK we had a two litre turbo which produced more power than the later two point six. Mine was also a mint manual and had only fifty thousand miles. The previous owner used to jack it up every month and clean underneath the car. He even used to polish the spare wheel well and it had two air freshners in the wheel well . i had the wheels polished , so no laquer . It looked much nicer with the polished alloys. The only thing was that I had to polish the wheels every two weeks. I had raised the power on mine to around two hundred and fifty bhp, which in todays world was not much power. However I used to get the back end out and I could hold it sideways on a wet road for as long as I wanted. I still have an old vhs video of me racing a mates Porsche 911 and a modified nissan sx. It was a fun car but because of the mods I only got twelve miles to the gallon. I had it for two years and still sold it for a profit. Brings back good memories. My mate in the Porsche gave it a nick name 'The Titan monolith' he used to joke that it didn't take petrol , it ran on the limbs of small children. I think it was because it was so loud and I used to drive it like an ethiopian running for a mc donalds. Maybe not politicaly correct but you get the idea lol . We used to race alot in those days, good times.
Beautiful car in amazing condition. I was not a fan when they came out, not sure why not! I would be totally happy with this example today! Glad you found it! Enjoy!
I’ve got a yellow 88 quest. I’ve got a 87 parts car. I have a factory radio maybe 2. I’d have to look. You have a really nice car. Mine has 132000 miles. Still strong. 14 lb of boost.

Very cool! I worked the wash-rack at a Chrysler dealer in high-school back then. They had a yellow Conquest tsi for quite a while. My Dad worked there as well, and was buddies with the owner. I had some "privileges" you might say. I probably put 200 miles on that car taking it to lunch. I absolutely loved driving that car!
Thad one for 21 years before I sold it with 310K miles on it. Replaced long block at 212K, changed 3 valve with the Lotus designed 2 valve head from the LeBaron TC, put 19C turbo, stainless header, blowout valve, stand alone fuel injector system... made 400HP, and 400 Lbft torque at 2800RPM up to almost 7000 RPM. Fun, and fast. Best car I ever owned. Had a Cop friend clock me at 162 one night, solid as a rock at a buck twenty
I'm only 31 and this car is one of my favorite cars from the 80's! Imagine if Mitsu put it back in production today an put the old evo turbo in it an gave it awd. This would be a blast!
That would be good, to be honest the steering and brakes on these cars could have done with an upgrade. Still one of the most fun cars to drive..you can side them all day long, plus it is easy to do and does not break away as violently as some other cars.
@@markgriff9053 Yeah you are so right, i know because everytime i hit it hard in first gear mine 1987 Starion/Tsi just goes to the right but not violently, just effortlessly unlike my 2019.5 Mustang GT 5.0 6sp.PP1 which gets very wild after the first 20 sec.
Just noticed it has a few differences to the UK cars. This does not have the EX badge on the rear wings , the seats are slightly different as are the wing mirrors which were black and shapd differently too. Mine was lowered which enhanced the stance too. Still lovely cars.
Regarding seats, mine aren't correct. My seats came from an earlier car (1987 or earlier). The 88 and 89 cars had the firmer Recaro seats. I would love to find a set in decent shape, but that's proving hard to do.
Ahhhhhh my HS car, 88 TSi, looooaded with HKS goodies too, exhaust, FCON, timer, adjustable boost, and a GN oversized intercooler... Ohman did she rip!

Cool! They are amazing for sure.
Wow, thats one beautiful car! A real time capsule! God bles!
Yes indeed!
Enjoy man, always wanted one when I was a teenager. Currently driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero
Cool. Love the Montero!!
I have a 1988 yellow conquest TSI . Taking it to the world of wheels on the 12th of Feb. in Birmingham Al.
Yellow was my favorite color. My buddy bought a brand new yellow one in '89, that's the car that started it all for me.
I had one of these back in 91….. had it for a few years. To this day it is my favorite car I owned
Definitely cool rides.
Thanks for sharing!
No...the 3000gt was the replacement
@@asherdeangelo3268 You are correct…the 3000GT was the replacement for these👍
I’ve owned my ‘88 Conquest TSI since ‘92 & I will NEVER sell it, it is in Very good shape all original.
Thanks. Seems that a lot of them are being hacked up into race cars today.
@@ProjectTimeGarage yes, they are. It’s a shame
Amazing how much everything has gone up.
This is the car my dad had when he met my mom. She was working at Burger King while in college and my dad came in and she said her girlfriend was like "ohhh look at his car" 😂 Rest was history.
That's awesome! I love hearing stories like that.
Yep, very 944ish no doubt.
I remember reading that article
This has been on my bucket list since the late 80's. That is my favorite color and congratulations man it is beautiful!
Awesome! Thank you!
My bucket list car would be an early 90’s Pontiac Firebird with t-tops. Factory everything except the sound system! 😄
Oooh yes, I know the cars well! Great choice. 👌
@Myke Johnson I just happen to have an 89 Firebird Formula. 305 5-Speed T-Top car. Had it since 1990. It'll be on my channel soon.
I have an 84 Dodge Conquest with under 30K. You’re right, they are no speed demons, but a fun car to drive and they get many lookers and head scratchers. LOL Can’t find many stick shift cars anymore.
True on all accounts.
Good stuff. Lol@ the door slam. I'm way careful with my stuff, just ask my wife.
Ohhhh man loved this car. Had an 87 Starion the only mod i did to it was on the vacuum side of turbo i put on a brass fish tank air regular to give me more boost. Instead of the 7 psi i was able to get at least 15 psi from the stock turbo. Enjoy the car!
Cool, I'm thinking about upping the boost a bit myself.
Yeah, the value sure is climing. I've watched a few sell over on BringATrailer. Crazy prices.
Enjoy!
The color is a bit odd, really bright. Sorry to hear yours was stolen.
I HAVE TWO RO4 RED ONES ...LOVE THEM...1987 & 1989....THEY BOTH WORK EXCELLENT!
Sell one? Actually, how much they going for now? So rare.
Let me get the 89 from you
It was very well taken care of. Glad it went to someone that will take great care of it.
Yep, it has an easy life ahead of it for sure.
My friend had that car talk about ahead of its time!!!
They sure were. Still cool by today's standards.
I loved that car. That and the Dodge Daytona. Both were great sister cars.
Yep, I agree completely
I had an 89... loved that car!
Sweet rides!
Some of these had a musical chime when you left the key in
I've heard that too. I believe there was a digital dash option called a "Technica Package" that offered that chime.
This car & the Buick GNX we’re my favorites as a kid! These cars were way ahead of their time !
I'd LOVE to find a GNX that doesn't cost a fortune.
I Love this car, the lines are beautiful!!! I always wanted one, it's still a dream car of mine...I also own a 87 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z
Love those Daytona ShelbyZ cars! I also have an 87 Shelby GLHS - there's a playlist on my channel for it.
Sadly most of the ones I find these days are in pretty sad shape. A lot of them have been turned into track cars.
How much did you get it for?
@@ProjectTimeGarage IKR its a pitiful thing to do as these cars are rare.
Those cars were the Poop de jour back in the day! That one is still sexier than socks on a rooster!
They sure we're!
I've just purchased a 1989 GSR-VR with even less mileage! So was keen to see this red one which l must say does look sweet. Cheers
Good score, there weren't a lot of 89's.
Still on my wish list. Hope to snare one real soon.
They're still out there. I see them on FB listed occasionally.
I'm with you brother. Love the Starion!
Right on!
My dad has a 1987 Chrysler Conquest he bought in ‘90. Had around 60k miles when he bought it, no clue how many it has now. I think I’m going to try and buy it.
Never hurts to have one or two. They are getting more expensive by the week.
My bucket list car 88-91 Prelude. Super nice Mitsubishi!!!
Thanks!!
The factory 88-89 seats were gorgeous too. Those are 87 seats
Yep, 87 seats - I'd like to find a set of 88-89 seats, but every time I do, they're on the opposite side of the US, and usually "pickup only"

I watched a video many years ago called "Getaway in Stockholm" that featured an Escort Cosworth. That thing was extremely fast.
I had a 1986 Conquest just like this Starion. Red too. It was a beautiful car. I like the Starion steering wheel more. Steering wheel was plasticky.
I think the steering wheel difference was a model year thing. I think both Conquests and Starions got the same wheel for the 88-89 model year - maybe even 87, but not positive.
Cool. Had a used Starion back in the day. Loved the steering wheel controls and digital dash w toggle from mph to kmh. Fun car! Time flies.
Right on
I had an 1985.5 Chrysler Conquest TSi. It was a great car.
Sure were.
yeah great channel we subbed ofcourse and Hello from Amsterdam the starion was a great car for me in the 90s i bought it for 1400 dollar from germany.. my model was the narrowbody 2.0 turbo intercooler zilverpaint.. A Cool Powerfull SuperFast Beast!
The narrow body or "flatty" cars are getting REALLY popular, especially some of those hoods with the vents. Thanks for subscribing!!
A guy in high school had one of these . I thought it was the sharpest sports car by far.
Yeah, me too.
I have an 87', black on black. It is in pretty good shape throuout. I love that car and will probably keep it for the remainder of my time on earth. About the dash, they don't crack. They were made with some kind of very high quality plastic that stands the test of time, indoors or outdoors.
I'll keep this one too. Really cool cars.
Yes, parts are getting harder and harder to find.
That's a great looking car. Beats the doors off of many modern , overdesigned sports cars. A simple but appealing design.
Couldn't agree more!
Dude! This thing is AWESOME!!!!!!!!! I can't believe how clean it is and how low of miles it has! Nice score man!
Thanks, I wanted this one for years and years.
I had a 86 conquest loved it . I'd kill to find one today
They're out there for sure. I see one pop up for sale now and again on Marketplace. The trick is finding one that's not completely beat to death.
LOL, thanks for sharing. I always love hearing stories like that. Sounds like a sweet car!
Beautiful car in amazing condition. I was not a fan when they came out, not sure why not! I would be totally happy with this example today! Glad you found it! Enjoy!
Thanks Uncle mark!
Conquest tsi says it on the car & the title. people tend to decredit it by calling it a starion. be proud of it, its a Conquest and cool as hell.
Sure is, I love it!
I’ve got a yellow 88 quest. I’ve got a 87 parts car. I have a factory radio maybe 2. I’d have to look. You have a really nice car. Mine has 132000 miles. Still strong. 14 lb of boost.
Okay, the yellow cars - that's my weakness. It's absolutely my favorite of all the colors. They look sooooo good.
Man that's a clean vehicle! I'm looking for one! I owned a 1985 Toyota Celica GTS convertible.
Thanks!
Nice you ever sale let me know. Im old school 80 and this is on my bucklist so i get. they have a muscle car look. and i buy cars with flip up lights call thats always cool! congrats
Thanks, this one is a keeper!!!
That car would look great in my garage alongside my '84 300ZX Turbo Anniv, 7,000 orig miles.
Your 300Z would look great in my garage alongside this Starion!
Actually my Z is for sale by Gateway Classic Cars, Philadelphia Showroom.
crazy to see these in this shape. i'm hoping to find a project one soon! theyre my favourite car.
I've seen a few for sale out there that were in decent shape for decent money. There are a few Facebook groups that may help you: "Starion and Conquest Universe", "Starion & Conquest Club", "StarQuest classifieds USA/UK/NZ & AU", plus a few more. Check them out.
I had one and wish I could have it back!!!
I had a few cars I wish I had kept. Hindsight really is 20/20.
The yellow one is the one I would most like to have.
Loved the Lemon Yellow, almost bought one, but the 87 Gunmetal Blue won out. The 88 Peacock Blue was also killer
Cool stuff!
I'm only 31 and this car is one of my favorite cars from the 80's! Imagine if Mitsu put it back in production today an put the old evo turbo in it an gave it awd. This would be a blast!
AWD would be crazy good. These thing handle incredibly well as it is. AWD and some more power would be a game changer.
Wow, beautiful! Nice find and take care of it and I agree with keeping it stock!
Thanks!!
Ahhhhhh my HS car, 88 TSi, looooaded with HKS goodies too, exhaust, FCON, timer, adjustable boost, and a GN oversized intercooler... Ohman did she rip!
PS: Chrysler only color keyed a few black items- like the front grille insert, and barely anything else as I recall... oh brakelights...
...and the handling!!
Yeah, not a lot of difference between the two for sure.

I want this car. Trade ya? 🙂 In high school a rich friend of mine got a brand new red one like this. Looked so cool. Nice find.
Same scenario for me high school friend had a yellow one, his dad bought it brand new for him. Lasted about seven months before he wrapped it around a telephone pole.
I love it! I have always liked these cars.
Yeah, me too. Don't see many of them.

That's in amazing shape for haven 45k+ on it. It looks like it was never driven. God this makes me miss mime. Same color, mine was badged as a tsi. Careful with the stock motors tho. The timing chain tensioner has a small bolt that tends to snap and destroy them motors. I had mine break 3 times.
Yeah, the engines have a few weak points for sure - particularly the Jet Valve heads.
Your car has a different door chime than mine. I had a 1985 model and it had like a musical chime.
Yes I think the one I have is the later model "standard" chime. I think you had a somewhat rare version. Did you also have the digital cluster (called the Technica Package)?
