    What makes me stuck on a certain skill level mostly because I can't keep my play routine at optimal pace (I only play on weekends). Watching charts on RUclips helps me maintain my muscle memory on the game until I can play again.
    Also I think try not to cheese harder charts may improve your skill level as well. Because you are essentially trying to do charts you can't with your current skillset. While it may gave you the score you want, you didnt get the skillset demanded by the chart. A month ago or two I cheesed Gargoyle Full S20 by bracketing the streams and I got B, while playing with the intended way I only got D. It gave me the score I want, but I still can't do a really long stream.

    I cannot stress enough how #5 hits the most for me.
    Just as an example. Yesterday i was playing alone when suddenly, the top 3, and i mean the LITERAL TOP 3 in my country came to the same arcade to play. I got a chance to play with them, and i got a chance to pick a song.
    Now, i am faced with a mental barrier of "should i play the song i know really well to keep up with them, or should i choose a different song but fear getting judged by them"
    And honestly, key word here is "fear". I fear that if i mess up, they'll judge me. We're talking a RT14 surrounded by RT19's (we're playing Maimai. RT is Rating on how skilled you are, the higher the better).
    Could you maybe chip in another advice on how not to get nervous or feel fear if this happens again?
    And, thanks for the video, really appreciate it 🙏

  • @niveous5392

    A good example maybe exclusive to a Clone Hero is that you can set the song speed higher to increase difficulty instead of just a different song. Helps reaction time/muscle memory when you play “slower” songs imo

    i think that there is also another reason which goes for a lot of bigginers
    they tend to panick on fast parts and do not try to see the pattern, most songs has a pattern and they just need to look at it closer, but most people see it as just mashing your keyboard resulting in spamming and make them have a thinking that they aren't good enough

    • @dotXyore

      Most newer charts, anyway. A lot of older charts tend to put in a LOT of double steps which is very annoying.

    A year ago, I was stuck in 13s and 14s because I was horribly overweight, obese even (I was 95kg at the time). After putting in some serious effort in exercise and maintaining cardio over a span of 8 months, my weight dropped to 88 kgs (I know it's not much, I love food).
    Now I can go through most 15s and some 16s after familiarizing the mechanics and techniques of my ultimate nightmares: crossovers and brackets. I'm down to 86kg and I can do some 17s and even got A(broken) in Vaccum S19.
    My next goals at this time are Allegro Con Fuoco S17 and Wedding Crashers S18. Oh goodness. Wish me luck.

    Hey Seth, I'm Miles from Twitch, This video is a very useful tool for a lot of players that are just starting out, especially not playing one song over and over, most of the times i went to play ITG i give myself only one try at each song i picked and that was it, this along with other tricks and a good form helped a lot and got me from easy charts to 13 blocks charts on ITG in just over a year, unfortunately all of that came to an obrupt end the day i moved to a new city.. studying charts on RUclips or just put autoplay on OpenITG sounds like a good way to study charts and i'm definitely giving it a try! (once i find, or buy, a good machine, that is)

    something else i think that is important that didn't get mentioned is that it is definitely ok to take breaks for a few days, it can even help sometimes too in my experience
    trying to push yourself past your limits while being in pain can stop you playing for years at a time, so taking breaks is key! sometimes having a break will allow you to come back stronger also

    Something that seems to be really important to me personally, is to take days off from the game. Sometimes life just gets in the way or I start feeling burnt out so I take some days off. But even on the weeks where I'm enjoying whatever game it is, and I'm doing well...I'll force myself to take a couple of days off from the game.
    For whatever reason, most of the time when I come back to the game after a break, I see improvements.

  • @Vizefon
    @Vizefon 5 лет назад

    Number 5 hits me very hard man!!! But I think it is both a good and bad thing depending on how you look at it.
    .
    It's bad when you just keep doing it to show off to the crowds with the songs you're comfortable with without any new difficulties and song charts. The same steps you've done hundreds of time with no difficulties. Most of the time, it is a waste of tokens if you're in the arcade. But man, we just like attention sometimes, don't we? Haha I think it's okay if you're just relaxing and don't have anything particular in mind. Show off all you want!
    .
    It's good when you have a mindset like "what if I can show off a much harder song to them?" and decide to challenge yourself to the crowds with completely new songs with new difficulties you've never tried before. Don't worry about failing, the crowds mostly don't even mind about that. Heck some of them just want to watch you for the fun of it. This is a good opportunity to take new challenges and go with higher difficulties, because I believe it is more satisfying to show off to the crowds with a performance you've never done before instead of doing a performance you've already mastered. Just say you're tired and exhausted if you fail to perform lol the crowd would surely understand you with all the crazy steps done!!!! Nice video man, very good tips!!!! Rhythm gamer forever!!!!

    I'm ok at watching charts, it's just getting my feet to catch up with my brain 😢 I deciphered a lot of how to play heavy/expert through controller. That came with it's obvious downside of me giving up the pad and basically dumping dancing games for years because they got "boring." I'm making a promise to myself to at least pass all my old DDR games with my replacement pad, even practicing in training mode...and if I'm still desperate, I'll look up a chart on RUclips. Anything to keep me away from that damned controller lol

    For me, I used the crowd as my drive. Yeah, I kinda started cuz I loved the attention. Doing spins on Pump always impressed the crowd. Then I met the other rhythm gamers who were way better than me. I drove myself, not only getting people’s attention, but trying to SSS or AAA. Now it’s both for me, I wanna see myself improve with better scores and attention from random people walking by. It’s like performances, you want to get the loudest cheers and the biggest audience. Of course, S19s are hard for me, but seeing that crowd of 10 people makes me smile, and seeing that A on that chart makes me smile more.

  • @MackenziiRivers
    @MackenziiRivers 4 года назад +1

    a personal one for me and maybe it might be usefull for others is, especially with ddr (or high body movement rhythm games ) is to get in shape. It might be obvious but its hard for a just over 250 pound (5"7) individual to try and to standard/difficult songs on ddr whilst carrying that much weight around.
    I do ddr for mfun mostly but for people who want to get into it competitively, make sure you have a high enough stamina, most of the time your out of shape and that leads to lack there of.
    just thought i'd share this. i know it wouldnt fit in your video as your's were universal and all.

    Ok, I'm no rhythm game expert, but I spent three days playing beat saber on expert plus mode with real sticks to beat some demons, and what I found out was, I became extremely smooth in doing whatever movements I was doing, because I did it over and over again, but I had to use shadow memory to get that smoothness and speed.

      @@despacito311 In fighting there's this thing known as shadow boxing. Where you imagine your opponent doing a move and then you react to it. There are better and worse ways to react to a certain situation. When there was an incredibly fast progression of notes, I found there were several different ways of hitting them, even thought the notes were the same. I could hold the sticks close to my chest. I could move my arms instead of my wrists, I could use my hips and move my entire body to hit those notes. There was a great possibility of things. When muscle fatigue combined with repetition, and a little bit of meditation and reflection, allowed me to hit some incredibly hard note progressions. The muscle fatigue made me slow and tired and forced me to find the most efficient way of moving. The repetition allowed me to refine those movements over and over, and gave me knowledge and foresight to know what comes next. The rest and meditation allowed me to easier put two and two together, and synchronize my body for the next trial. I was fighting some demons, actually.

    How to fc a song without even restarting it :(

    • @inana_nana
      @inana_nana 4 года назад +6

      Continue the song until it reached the end and then play it again. It was also my problem with mobile rhythm games like cytus, deemo, lanota, arcaea and etc. I would restart every time when I miss or have an early/late beat.
      But ever since I played LL:SIF and Bandori, I realize that you shouldn't waste your gameplay just because you missed the beat or get a good/bad instead of perfect/great ((cuz if you restart, all your energy you used will be a waste.))
      Now, every time I play a rhythm game (whether mobile, console or arcade) it continues to improve the things that I couldn't do when I was still struggling.
      Hope this helps!

    日本語のざっくりした要約です(全訳ではありません)。お役立てください。微妙なニュアンスの違いもあるかもなので、訂正などあればリプでいただけるとありがたいです。
    『音ゲーの地力の成長が止まってしまう5つの理由』
    【①似通った譜面ばかりやっていて、新しい譜面に手を出さない】
    一つの譜面に固執してもその譜面しか上達しないよ!プレイヤーとして上達するためには、様々な譜面に手を出そう。どんな音ゲーでも、自分の地力に合ったレベル帯の譜面に広く手を伸ばせば、一通りやり終えるころには必ずそれなりに上手くなってるよ。
    【②癖を付けて、失敗から糧を得ようとしてない】
    同じ譜面を連奏してる人にありがち。癖がつく主な理由は、スコアを出すために無闇に粘着し、失敗してもその原因をRUclipsや譜面画像で分析しようとしないから。長期的に成果を出していくためには、投稿者のアドバイスとしては、一旦その譜面から離れて時間を置いて戻ってくるか、一つ下のレベルからやり直すと良い。
    【③譜面をRUclipsで確認していない】
    ②で述べたように、失敗の原因を探る手段として便利なのがRUclipsのメリットの一つ。更なるメリットは、「知識」を得られること。その譜面で何が降ってくるか大まかに知っておくことで、難所などでどのような動きをすればいいか準備ができる。よく見る譜面をプレイリストにまとめておいて、暇な時に見よう。投稿者は、音ゲーをやらない日でも譜面動画を確認するそう。
    【④目標を立てずになんとなくやってない?】
    音ゲーに真剣に向き合っていて、何かしらの長期目標がある人にとっては特に重要。今日音ゲーをやる目的は何?フルコンボをつけること?クリアランプをつけること?理由はなんであれ、明確な目的意識を持って音ゲーに取り組もう。
    今日の目標を立てたらまず(下位譜面などで)ウォーミングアップしよう。体が温まって、精神的にも行けそうな感じがしたらやってみよう。もし立てた目標が達成できそうな気がしなくなっても、全然大丈夫。その日は簡単な譜面を楽しくやったり、音ゲー自体やらなくてもOK。上手くいかない日くらい誰にでもあるから。
    【⑤音ゲーの上達よりも、周りの視線を気にしてない?】
    エンジョイ勢は気にしなくていいけど、真剣に音ゲーが上手くなりたい人は注意すべきで、周りからの視線を集めるために自分の得意譜面ばかりやっていても上達しないよ。

    Thank you for making this video. Now I'm getting my consciousness back to improve myself and follow your instruction.
    -------------------
    (I just want to share my experience XD)
    My problems are all except #3.
    1. I'm stuck at K-pop songs since I know almost all of them, so I can catch the rhythm well. And 'this' links to #5 as well.
    2. It's not that I play the same chart over and over, but I kept playing same 'group' of favorite charts to the point that I made more mistake every time.
    4. I did have goals, but somehow I didn't care about it and just mess around. I planned to start over when the XX first launched in my country and get specific amount of S, SS, or SSS in the specific level, then climbing up level by level. But here I am, playing around.
    5. I know most people likes K-pop, so I played a lot of K-pop to attract people.(I can play lv18 at max) Sometimes it's not K-pop, but songs that I'm confident to show others.

    #2 i _dont usually_ know when am I doing a bad form and what constitutes a bad form, so most of the time i don't know what to fix and how can i fix it (i mean form in somewhat a loose way, both body form and any techniques like drills, brackets, runs, triples, quads, etc). i don't even know if the issue itself is just mental (in your head) or also physical.

    • @happyf333tz
      @happyf333tz  5 лет назад +1

      Are you breaking combo? Are you losing your lifebar? What exactly happens during these said patterns/techniques you mention? Find out what is happening and then find out why. You can do this by recording yourself and slowing down the footage and pay very close attention to your form and see why you are messing up. Watch videos of higher end players to get an idea of what the form/footwork should look like.

    I was playing the vocaloid rhythm game Sekai when I decided to set the difficulty to expert because, in my thinking, "can't be as bad as hard." Even writing this makes me cringe. after a little while, my brain became so overwhelmed that I cried for about two minutes while still playing the game. My brain simply cared; I wasn't even concerned. This only ever happens in rhythm games, although it has happened before. I've encountered genuine, life-threatening challenges, like not being able to have any healthcare in the future, yet I was still feeling like a normal person who wasn’t about to lose their rights. Can someone with experience give me advice on how to make these silly things disappear?

    I'm flattered...
    Usually my crowds gather on their own though, as shown in my video.
    I wasn't trying to impress them. I hate crowds and people in general when I am playing DDR lol.
    I have a lot of counter-measures for most of these. For example, I like to go over stepmania and just play several of the charts in DDR and just try to memorize them. Usually I record myself and upload them as well, which helps me see the sections I messed up (usually patterns and speed), and just go over them. That's something I recommend for players who are struggling.
    These are fair points though, so nice job.

    • @happyf333tz
      @happyf333tz  5 лет назад

      Your video was not used to call you out as a player, just to show a crowd since that was the topic. There is a huge difference between playing and naturally having a crowd behind you vs you knowing there is a crowd and you start to focus on entertaining the crowd, rather than focusing on your goals in your session.
      Memorizing charts is a skill that is great to have, but is completely different when talking about playing charts that you are making mistakes on and building bad muscle memory on. Memorizing charts can only be done if you are very comfortable with the chart and it is a very different skill set.
