My friend's father passed and I'm making one out of his old t-shirts... There are alot of t-shirt quilt/blanket videos out there, and this one was simple, quick, and to the point. Loved it! Sidenote: if you told me you worked as a news journalist, I would believe you in a heart beat! Your voice definitely has the sound and cadence of one... Very trusting and a matter of fact. Keep up the good work!💜

Thank you for explaining the backing. Every video I watch just shows the front and not the back. Thanks!

If you only use the front of the shirts, you can always incorporate the backs or make a plain t-shirt blanket. Thank you for your video.

To add more info I did use all my mother's heavier sweaters to make a throw but I cut a sheet about 2" bigger than the sewed together sweaters. I planned to sew it a bit smaller than the sweaters to make them stretch to stay more stable. I didnt back them with interfacing either because some had pretty open stitich. And yes a PITA to sew! I double folded the sheet over the front to make a "binded" edge look. Folded the corner into mitered as I went. Then did same by stitching down at corners of sections to "quilt" it. I now know why quilters buy packs of hundreds of safety pins!

I too have been searching an easy way to do. I have my mother's things to make memories for family. My younger sister had them stored 5 years and I have had or another 5. Brought it all out. Ive been sewing over 50 years so can handle tshirt material without interfacig. Im thinking to back with tshirt pieces too. Some have cute graphics as she was a school district aide. So was I and my younger sister a teacher too. Some have apples. I was using some of the bling ones to make fringed scarves. But asking my daugher and other family they'd rather have a throw. I really love the bleaching idea as some have stains so I can disguise them. I think I will use all the tshirt and piece the smaller sections to keep it all tshirt on front and back. I have her blouses and was thiking to use some of those with her jeans to make bags or totes. My main thing I do and sell at small farmers market. I saw a cute angle idea, very simple but it was a card. I may use her few blouses to add an angel to the throw. Just a diamond applique for dress and wire for limbs and wings but I can do that with free motion or embroidery.

Cute tips. Only thing I could ask you to always do is to push the rotary cutter away from you instead of pulling it towards you. This will give you more control and be much safer. Best wishes.

Great video. This one showed me exactly what I wanted. There is one thing, was the fleece on the back side a solid piece of fabric?

I like the look from the bleach, but in my experience of accidentally getting bleach on clothing, it later will get holes from the bleach because it breaks down the fabric....just something to consider.

So is it 12x13” including the seam allowance? Or is the 12x13 just the visual part of the shirt once it’s stitched?

    I have 2 questions:
When you stitch an “X” at the intersection of each t-shirt block does the needle go through the fleece back also or just the first layer?
    2. Fleece is very difficult to remove pet hair from. Is there a different type of material I can use for the back?
    Thank you

Do you happen to know how large the back piece is! I’ve followed along and got my front piece ready to roll. Wondering how many yards to order for a back. Thanks! I’m loving mine so far!

for the bleach portion, do you think i could do it after i cut the shirts out rather than before like how you have? Also what setting did you wash in?

    • @sewmuch2wear
      @sewmuch2wear  3 года назад +3

I think you can do the bleach part after you cut the squares as long as you have washed the shirts already. If they have never been washed they might shrink in the dryer and your square could be slightly smaller than the rest. I just washed mine in cold water and then put them in the dryer.

Yikees! Rotary cutting toward you 😳. Rotary should always be pushed away from you. Never backwards. Please be careful.

Hi Shelly! I used cotton thread, I believe any type that's suitable for your sewing machine should work.

@@sewmuch2wear I need to hurry up and figure out how to make these! The one year anniversary of my friend's dad's death is next month and I will be making shirt blankets for several people in their family. I already know there's no way it's going to be done in time for the actual anniversary cuz I still haven't gotten mine made 🤦 I need to go get the interfacing.
