Why Naruto changed its art style. Masashi Kishimoto, the author of Naruto changed the art style of the manga during the story. This change was made before the time skip, and Naruto Shippuden. The change made the Naruto Manga art style more similar to the Naruto Anime art style. The character design in the Naruto series were slightly changed as well, and this change definitely had several reasons to be implemented. In this video we'll be talking about them. Кино
Yup, I noticed it too. There is a charm to the original art style, because it feels more personal, indie if you wish, and maybe it was changed and improved because as the series became a big hit,he could afford to hire a team to do the work for him. And he increased the team as time went by. Like the amount of high quality panels improved a lot during the series.
especially on the cover art
I dont think anyone else helps with the manga panels. There is no team, just a mangaka. There is a team for the anime tho.
@@1BuFo there actually Is a team of assistants working on most mangas. They help drawing mostly backgrounds, characters on the background. Some mangakas even start as assistants. If i am not wrong oda (author of One piece) and Takei (author of Shaman King) became close Friends being both assistents of Watsuki (author or Ruroni Kenshin).
It really had the 2000s vibe! Like go watch bleach’s first opening, that perfectly encapsulates the essence of that time period and I feel the first style of Naruto was in line with that. Just my opinions I guess but it really does give me the same feelings. Cheers
the only thing i like about the old artstyle is how he would draw the characters is insane cool ass poses. he stopped doing those rly fluid free looking movements n made them more stiff when he replicated the anime
The big indicator is how Sakura actually did have a big forehead in the original manga, so the joke/insult made sense. But in the anime, her forehead is the same size as anyone else's, and that carried back over into the manga.
She def needed that forehead protector
If you notice in the show her and inno were really the only ones with big foreheads. And the context makes sense being that girls tend to trip about sht like that especially in middle school 😂 I remember we all been there they wore worried about every little thing about themselves even if it wasn’t true.
Idk guys, I watched the Shounen Jump not too long ago and Sakura def has a sizable forehead, almost everyone does but it's covered with a headband, Sakura's is ever so slightly larger than the rest.
@@PrimeTimeBaller36 ino's design looked fine in both renditions
She used to have a homemade yard sale sign
That Tsunade pose got me actin up
Okay pal

O hell no bro relax😂
The original was more expressive, but the newer one is more clean and recognizable, both are amazing.
The more I look at the early Naruto manga the more I do se Kishimoto desire to have made it based on magic
Go read black clover then. Cry more.

Bro it is magic. They're making shi outta spiritual energy.

Bro relax,
Like bro came in on 10 for no reason 😂
Big indicator was the lack of detail in his art. Yal remember the mad detail the fuzzy part of naruto's sweater had? lot more crosshatchings in his earlier work. In my opinion was better, but I understand SJ and how they literally like to kill their mangakas.
I feel like it still has details cause if you look at Naruto you could say that’s he kinda over designed like nothing is ever missing from Naruto
Edit: I said over sized lmao
I like that it works because its looks like a slight age up as they in fact were in fact slightly older by the search for tsunade arc
that’s a pretty cool head canon
I like the early style because it was more unique and fluid... later the style becomes blocky and less creative (also faces looks almost identical on everyone because of that style change)
I agree
Couldn't agree more.
That’s a critique or flaw of almost every mangaka. You telling me you haven’t heard “they all look the same” or thought it when reading Dragonball or One Piece?
I like the early Shipudden style up until Pain or Five Kage Summit, not a fan much of the war arc's style.
@@Powerman77775
what is your argument?
"everyone is doing it" so i have to like it? lol what is your logic?
looking the same could be a stylistic choice that will work but in this specific case i realy liked the fluidity of the early style in naruto
the early design was greatly inspired by AKIRA
I was looking for this comment
Yo that’s dope I didn’t know
you mean toriyama? makes sense if so because it does kind of look like the original dragon ball chapter's
@@BettyBossyBoots no, there's an Anime Called AKIRA. Even every famous pop culture like anime or cartoon nowadays parodied their most stunning scene where a motorcycle drifting in an alleyway.

As an artist I saw the change as an improvement in skill level. Drawing that much your style is going to evolve and become cleaner
I think the second style is better, but that original style has a level of charm that just can't be beat
The weird thing is I noticed but I didn't notice at the same time when I was a kid reading the Tsunade retrieval arc I noticed there was a little something different about it
Way tsunades designed and laying looks like a forbidden manga 😂
Imma keep it real that would be the only one I’d cop💀💀💀💀💀💀
The older drawings did in fact look more old school, where as the second style looked more new? I feel like it’s the roundness/stroke strength of the lines but unsure
I like the old Kishimoto art style, its so styles and have more authentic characteristics also so much detail in the background
Reminds me of how Jimi Hendrix played All Along the Watchtower so well, Bob Dylan switched how he played the song since his version
Shipudden has such a beautiful art style. I’ve never seen manga with like lines so CLEAN. Just smooth and everything is “tight” idk how to describe it
shippuden has very "on model" characters, its actually pretty rare for mangaka to be so precise when it comes to anatomy and staying on model. its very readable and well balanced, the effects drawings are sparse and clear, even the small panels are consistently detailed. its no wonder its inspired by the animation bc that is how animation studios design characters and implement them, there is a set amount of simplification and reproducibility and kishimoto doesnt stray from that. he would be awesome at inbetweening.
Love your content ❤❤❤
I think I never noticed because I started watching the anime and by the time I caught up with it and switched to the manga, it was already when Sasuke kills Orochimaru
I prefer the closer to the anime style too, but it looks better in the manga than it does in the anime lol.
Maybe cos mangakas have more time to detail the art bcs its just still images
@trip_draw1492 depends on the publishing intervals
Since Kishimoto was in weekly shonen jump he probably didn't have the time to anguish over details much
He changed the artstyle because he thought fans who came from the anime would drop the manga because of the different styles between the anime and manga. He didn’t do it because he thought the anime art style was better
I watched and read the Sasuke retrieval storyline and was surprised by how similar a lot of it was, it was cool that he was influenced by the anime.
Source?
@@danielclv97this isnt true lol. he changed his whole workflow and approach to manga to be more similar to how an animation studio runs. more collaborative, more people involved, he draws the important panels and scenes(like key frames) and his assistants do the smaller panels and finishing touches. his style is simplified and optimized to stay on model across multiple artists. probably there are character model sheets with expressions, front back side views etc for his assistants reference to keep the art consistent. its actually pretty interesting.
Naruto's hair being wildly spiky like reeds in the wind instead of the uniform star shape will always be charming to me.
RO BGM!? You cut it at the best part as well!
Any long running manga changes artstyle. Sometimes people gets better at drawing (author of AoT improved so much), sometimes people go into more simplistic artstyle for faster work. It's almost impossible to draw the same way for 10 + years
He didn't think it was better he just wanted consistency
One reason may also be that getting assistants to help gives him more time to drew characters while he had to do everything by himself in the start.
I noticed during the Sasuke arc in Shippuden when Kabuto 1st revealed he had Orochimaru cells ❤🎉😊
The new Art is more recognizable and pretty too look at,
The old version is nostalgic
You should talk about Kishimoto's brother.
i think kishimotos art is peak at search for tsunade/sasuke retrieval arcs, i think he made some more changes after the timeskip, maybe personnel or techniques/materials(digital? idk some of the covers in the kazekage rescue mission arc looks digital but i might be wrong.) that flattened his style for a few arcs and then he found his pace again in the pain arc, with the super detailed backgrounds and page spreads balancing out the simpler character designs. kishimoto should make a giant monster or mecha manga at least once bc his big wideshots and creatures are the best part about his art and sadly ninjas, even the naruto ones, dont give enough reason to have those pages more often.
I kind of wish he stuck with his art style just so we could see a different version of these characters. I feel like the anime just took over everything
Both styles are good but adapting is a good thing
Man, i think the Naruto anime art style is still the best and i wish they never changed it.
The sharp edges in the Original gave a unique visual appeal for when I first saw Zabuza and Haku I could take their designs seriously like real mysterious ninjas in Shippuden the feeling just wasn't there anymore and along with the fact the original gave way to detail of teeth and eyes to convey facial reactions
I mean if you look at the original-original artwork, Naruto himself was supposed to be a ninja-raccoon animal thing 😂
i love the second style
Kishimotos original art books and concept stuff for the manga have so much style I vastly prefer the exaggerated look of his earlier stuff. I think the change had more to do with consistency and how long it took to draw.
Team 7 vs haku and zabuza wouldn't have been as impactful and beautiful to me in the 2nd style
I think it’s just cool they can change up their styles like this
Second style Clean AF
Nah I like that og style. felt more original
Mangaka’s art styles also just change overtime naturally as they improve.
Cool
I love how someone like him was even able to be like, oh damn, thats sheats up yo WITH HIS OWN WORK then hes like yea i fw that actually
Almost every long running manga’s artist grows and develops a new way to draw as the series progresses (rurouni kenshin anyone?) like literally all of them. It’s doubtful he wanted to copy the anime his art style grew and the anime’s artists had to copy and match Kishimoto
I love the original style more, and wished it stay like that
Bleach and one piece and Naruto all had changed their art style. They got better over time
When the consultant is better than you
It almost always happens this way. Same thing with Bleach as well
His anime inspired style is better looking than the anime too.
It's called "getting better "
I prefer the bouncy and curvy artstyle it had at first.
Yup, the change in art style is very gradual during the manga to the point it feels very natural. Also you have no idea how the anime contributed making the leaf village and the world of Naruto so iconic. Good choice imo for Kishimoto adapting to the anime.
it was a good call ngl.
Biggest change I noticed was in Shikamaru’s design. When he first appears he’s ugly as hell and has no chin
I preffer the manga too. Is more rough, the anatomy is less cartoonish and the clothes have more volume and "physics".
Both are so much better than that boruto manga trash.
I like the original art way better. The characters look more Japanese. It’s got a certain charm to it. Maybe I’m partial to it since I read the earlier chapters in the 3rd grade
Its wasn't even his idea, it was the editors, he wanted a fox as the main character lol
“Times where anime influenced the manga”
Kishimoto is fickle: his art, his writing
And then afterwards the art style was better than the anime itself😅😭
Is it just me or Sasuke looking kind thi- Triangle yeah
He just got better at drawing that's it
How can it matter if the story remains mid ??
The anime change is great, up until Boruto, where it took a significant hit. I'm fine with Naruto having short hair and the overall design of the characters, but the animation style for Boruto feels so lifeless for some reason.
He’s lazy and deadlines were tight. You guys give this man too much credit.
Notice how every comment is long?
Me too
I prefer old art style
He shouldn't have.
The original sucks
Artists change their art the more they spend energy on it and practice, Kishi just made the change quicker because he was inspired by the anime which is impressive.
@@justinarzola4584like yugioh
AOT, the character modesl looked much more like the anime , but that's also cuz the arstis t got better at drawing faster. ( they all could draw well just not that fast)
Pretty sure same happened to Fairy Tail. And I think Bleach also got a bit closer to its anime
His art style got better imo.
Kubo did the same.
there’s nothing wrong with saying the new style is better especially when even the original artist also thinks so
No he stopped drawing the manga awhile into shippuden cause it was hurting his health
Man he got lazy! The original art style is way much better and more expressive.
Me too. I prefer the style closest to the anime. Because, I’m extremely shallow when it comes to fictional characters. That’s why I hate Naruto Gaiden and Boruto. They all look sooo ugly! Like, maybe just Kakashi and Konohamaru (from the OG characters) look good. But, Naruto is the main character and he should still look good.
Minato Namikaze definitely still looked moe and gorgeous throughout his entire life. Even when he was 41 years old in a filler arc. A filler arc THAT KISHIMOTO SUPERVISED! So yeah, he didn’t bother aging Minato. But, he gave Fugaku, Sasuke and Naruto premature wrinkles in their 20s?
What crack has he been smoking? A healthy person does not get wrinkles during their 20s. In fact, not even in their thirties. My big brother is 37 and looks 18. I’m 33 and people still think I’m anywhere from 12 - 16. So yeah… he should not have aged the characters ahead of time.
Bleach changed a lot and until know one of the best shonen ever next to db
Uk what anime had the biggest art evolution? Bleach.
no way bro had so little faith in himself☠️
Nah bro, he just liked the improvements
As a professed Naruto hater, the second style is better.
He changed his styles based on animators who animated the anime series. Bear in mind, mangaka only provides "key structures" for characters but overall drawing for anime are done by animators skill, thus some animators will put flair on to them to work easier. That's why naruto in anime is more clean but manga has more details
I've never seen a comment with so many things wrong
First style was better. Had more grit.
Minato haircutstyle… in the old version were better.

15. Kisame was eaten by his own sharks
14. Konan turned into paper on death and blew away
13. Yahiko was already the Deva path and I don't think Kishimoto wanted to do the man dirty by making him a slave to some jackass with impure intentions
12. Kishimoto actively chose not to revive Jiraiya to avoid undoing the character development caused by his death
11. Shisui's body was never recovered and he was eyeless upon death so that's half of what made him a threat gone. Kabuto wouldn't have wanted what essentially equated to dead weight on the battlefield
10. Danzo's death was incredibly satisfying and undoing that would have been dick move by Kishimoto. Also his main threat came from the Hashirama cells and the several Sharingan he had. The Hashirama cells fucked off and became a tree. His arm of Sharingan were all useless and he destroyed Shisui's Sharingan when he committed suicide
9. There was nothing left of him TO resurrect. Sasori already turned him into a puppet
8. We know literally nothing about this man's abilities. I'm not even certain we know his name
7. Pretty sure Kabuto would have had to break into Konoha itself to get their bodies which was not happening
6. See above
5. Honestly I have no good excuse for this one. My best guess is because Kakashi already had his closure with his father whe he died
4. Who? No seriously. Who?
3. Once again would require breaking into Konoha. Also very few people actually knew much about her. Sure, she was strong, but she rarely left a small area of the village and never really did missions. Her nickname of the Red Hot Habanero was given to her when she wasn't even a genin so it wasn't even a feat given nickname like Minato's Yellow Flash
2. She was an unskilled, untalented, unremarkable genin when she died. She would have been absolutely useless in the war so Kabuto would have no reason to bring her back. Hell, I'd be surprised if he even knew who she was
1. Death by 8th Gate. He had literally nothing left to bring back. Edo Tensei requires DNA to work. You can't really get DNA from 20 year old ashes that have long since been scattered to the wind
@@majoratwili7312 thanks bro I already knew their reanimation wouldnt make sense but I just wanted to pretend it would lol

But boruto art style is worst
I prefer the original.
The original was way better. The new style is clean but loses character and expression. As if he sold out the soul of his art.
Hated the new style...so bland. In fact only the first couple if volumes are worth reading, before Naruto turned into one of thise neverending series with way too man dozen volumes. Remember Death Note? Part 1 was like 6 1/2 volumes and it could have ended there. I miss when stories were tightly plotted 😢
So it is ok to steal from another artist
dude barely showed the first art style ..
Then why does Boruto manga look so damn awful compared to the anime….
Naw it’s the same
I just assumed Kishimoto got better as the years went on. The first few chapters of the manga are rough to me personally. I never assumed it was cause of the anime cause the anime would end up changing later down in Shippuden and in comparison especially during the both the final arcs of Naruto I never once got the idea one was trying to emulate the other.
Aka he got lazy
??
The boruto art style and animation are sooooooo bad
Yeah but this new stuff in boruto is trash! The art there is grossly boring. No life in it.
😮😮
And boruto looks Like Shit
