  • How to refill the ink on a Canon Pixma Pro-100 printer and reset the chip with Precision Colors inks.
    www.precisionco...
    You'll need a drill, 1/16" & 5/32" bits, ink refill kit.
    Easy, anyone can do it!
    Make sure to use ICC profiles, Precision Colors provides ICC profiles for their inks. They even provide ones for Red River paper, which is awesome :)
    I use this for all my wedding photos: www.micahgrobin...

    Nice tutorial. Makes it easy for the beginner.
    Tip: Reset the chip before you fill the cartridge to prevent any ink from running down the resetter and possibly onto the electronics.

    Somethings I learned from doing this.
    Use disposable gloves or end up with lots of ink-stained hands.
    Have extra pushpins, if you heat them to form a hole in the original plug, the pushpins can deform.
    After you use the heated pushpin, let the ball cool for a bit before trying to screw in the little screw eye.
    Always use electrical tape to seal the vent. Cellophane tape can be difficult to get off and tear.
    I bought and used separate syringes and needles for each color to avoid washing while working and minimize color pollution.
    The orange clamps that come with the kit don't seal hole on bottom. Use a layer of tissue and the clamp to keep ink from dripping.
    Keep tissues handy to blot the bottom of the cartridge and clean off the orange clamp.

    Another important thing.. when you refill this cartridge like 4 times, the sponge inside doesn't absorb ink, just use some alcohol (93% alcohol) and let sit for 10 minutes + more alcohol, and use any air blow (in low pressure) to trow out the alcohol from the cartridge until completely dries.. viola, you have a brand new cartridge again!

    Hi! Thank you for the tips! I managed to clean the print head as well as all the cartridges, but after refilling, I noticed that the original filled cartridges are leaking... the ink is flowing... and as a result, my yellow cartridge, for example, is stained. I will redo the entire cleaning process, but do you have any idea why the cartridges are leaking?

    I realize this is a very old video and I may not hear back, but I'll give it a shot anyways! Great video by the way, iv heard awesome things about precision colors ink. I'm curious, how do you think they compare to OEM? My main concern is prints starting to fade rapidly when using PC ink instead of OEM

  • @ofeenee

    I thought you have to flush the original cartridges completely out of the original ink before filling them up with precision colors’ ink, right?

    How did you handle the printer color profiles? Are you using the Precision Colors profiles? Did you change to them after all cartridges were refilled or as soon as you refilled the first empty one? Many thanks for the video...makes it look easy....

      Great question Victor Martin!
      I asked Mike at Precision Colors the same thing when I was making the switch over...
      Here's his remarks; "There will be slight shifts as you refill. When both magentas are refilled it is a good time to consider using the supplied ICC profiles. My magentas do not have the punch that Canon has. So anytime you want more punch, use the ICC profiles and that will drive it a little more."
      With that said, when I switched to Precision Colors inks I switched to their ICC profiles and have never had an issue with colors. Basically the difference is that PC magenta ink isn't as 'punchy', so you shouldn't notice much difference between Canon & PC ICC's anyways.
      Hope that helps, let me know if you have any more questions or anything :)

    Micah,
    Thanks for the video. Time to refill and I needed a quick refresher course - this perfectly filled the bill.
    The retired carpenter in me did a very deep cringe when I saw you drilling through the piece and towards your hand!!! The only other time I saw that behavior was in the operating room with an orthopedic surgeon drilling to place pins in a broken ankle. I cringed then too... (I was a nursing student at the time).

    Going to try these. I saw another video from a different ink company where they are putting the hole in a different spot, where the indention is a little lower. Looks much simpler you don't have to cut any sticker away nor mess with pulling the ball out which they claim can crack the cartridge. Have you tried that method?

    Thanks for the video. Been looking at getting some replacement inks for my Pro-100.
    When You reset the cartridge via the Precision Color re-setter does it still allow the printer to guesstimate ink levels and warn when getting empty? or is it just another way to circumvent the level warning system.
    Also, how are the Precision Color inks compared to the OEM

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  10 лет назад

      It does fully reset it so it will alert you again when it nears getting low. So it acts just like the OEM again :)

    Hi Micah, I noticed at 5:13, you start to place your thumb over the "thin hole". Any particular reason for you to do that? Why only up to 1/4" from the top and not to the brim?

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  9 лет назад +1

      Ariff Zulkarnain Suhut It's a vent hole, you have to block it to keep the ink from rushing into the sponge side of the tank.
      Also if you try to fill it all the way, it'll get this weird air bubble in there that causes it to spill out and overflow while filling even before you reach the top. So it's less messy to fill only 1/4" from the top.
      Thanks for the comments, hope it's helpful

    how do you properly clean out the cartridge before I start refilling it with ink? And is it optional? I was planning to buy a refill kit from precision and refill it back into my canon oem cartridges that came with my canonpixma100 printer

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  6 лет назад

      The kit will actually include step by steps to clean it. In my opinion, I don't think it's really that big of a deal to clean it at the start (if it's a freshly used cartridge). But they do need cleaning from time to time to avoid buildup of any heavy metals etc in them. The kit should come with a syringe that you fill with really warm water to flush them out with many times to clean them. Thanks for the question.

      Micah G Robinson Hi Micah. Thank you for all this great info and following up with all these questions. When you bought the 32oz kit as you mentioned above, did you feel the need to buy any of the offered accessory options, such as the 2"needle (adds $1) or the 8-StorageClips topfill (adds $6)? Wondering what these would be for, and if they are recommended? thanks.

      I didn't buy any of those as my kit I bought seemed to have everything I needed in it. Not really sure how that other stuff would help, maybe just to have extra? Either way I have no experience with any extras.
      I did get the squeeze bottles and chip resetter. Other than that though. Thanks :)

    Hi, thank you for the video. It was very informative.
    I ran into an issue however and I am wondering if you or anyone else has done the same. After following all the steps to the end, when I went to install the cartridge there was a lot of ink dripping and flowing out of the cartridge. I quickly cleaned it and plugged up the bottom before putting it in the printer. After putting it in, it soon began to put pressure on top and ooze out of the top plug. Needless to say, the print colors were extremely dark and way off from previous prints.
    Any suggestions, comments, etc. would be much appreciated.

      @mci2727  10 лет назад +1

      Great question Roman V!
      It is less than $1 using Canon inks and A LOT less using Premier Color's inks (like I show in the video).
      Here's a link that Red River Papers (my fave paper company) did on print costs with the Canon Pro-100 using Canon inks; www.redrivercatalog.com/cost-of-inkjet-printing-canon-pro-100.html
      Once again though, it's a lot less than even this using the ink refills :)

    great video, I have a couple questions. I understand the yellow need a virgin cart, but on your web site you show a how to flush video where you show a black cart being flushed. If I was to buy your refill kit with the chip resetter + a new empty yellow cart after I drill holes and put in plugs, will I ever have to do anything besides refill the carts?

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  10 лет назад +1

      Thanks john williams
      To clarify; I'm a Nashville based wedding photographer that uses Precision Colors inks, I don't own or work for PC.
      With that said; As far as they've told me you are correct that if you use a washed or unused ink tank and all it's had in it is Precision Color's yellow ink in it since, then you will not need to later wash it or anything.
      It'd be just like any of the the tanks using different colors at that point.
      The problem lies with the yellow ink Canon used for their OEM ink. It has heavy deposits in it or something.
      You can contact PC directly through their website to ask any question though, they've always been very quick to respond and helpful with me.
      Thanks man!

    How to reset the chips? I tried to refill the ink in my pixma 7270 but it is still showing that the cartridge is empty. The color also drips from the cartridge. Any suggestions? With what device did you reset the chips? Can it be achieved with my printer?

    • @mci2727

      +Nepa Laxmi Bachat Tatha Rin Sahakari You'll need a USB chip resetter like I use in the video and it'll need to be for your cartridges, not one for Pro 100 like I have.
      You either have a cracked cartridge, a blockage on the airport on the cartridge or it needs to be cleaned.
      So clear it out with tons of hot water and force the water through the filler and if that doesn't fix it replace the cartridge.

    Great Video. Much Appreciated.
    I didn't see you do it in your video, but do I need to flush out the OEM canon cartridges before filling it with Precision Colors ink? Also, should I fill the cartridges before the computer tells me they are out? If so, how much should be left before I refill them?

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  7 лет назад

      Hey Rupesh, thanks for your comment.
      There's no need to flush the OEM ink well at first, I believe a flush every 6 or so refills would be a good idea though.
      I usually refill the well with the first warning of low from the computer, before it's warning that the ink is out.

    • @Methodical2
      @Methodical2 10 лет назад +1

      Matthew Yang I think he means that you don't want to use any ole cheap ink out there. Precision Colors is one of the more trusted company to provide quality inks for the Pro 100, as well as other printers. PC's inks are just as good as the OEM ink. I've printed many images and have been amazed at the quality. As Micah stated, PC even provides printer ICC for the their ink for even better results. But, to get the most out of the printing proces, you should also calibrate your monitor, such as with a Color Munki, if you have not already done so. I've saved so much on ink now.
      You can buy a new Pro 100 for less than a set of ink cartridges with the Canon rebates and have a 2nd set already filled and ready to go, plus you'd have a replacement head as a back up - Amazing.
      Go to this thread on refilling Pro 100 cartridges for beginners

      www.redrivercatalog.com/cost-of-inkjet-printing-canon-pro-100.html
      If you add in the cost of ink from Precision Colors it'll drop that cost down dramatically.
      I'd say off the top of my head that it's 1/3 the cost of Canon ink. But if you contact Precision Color directly, they might be able to help.
      Thanks so much for your comment!

    Sweet! Thanks for the help... I just bought the same kit and it works friggin' great! Sooooo much less expensive than the OEM refills and the color is better while using the ICC profiles (at least IMO).
    BTW, Anyone have any Idea how many refills one gets with the 6oz bottles and how often I should be buying new 'empty tanks' to replace the old?
    Cheers,

      +floppychicken68 Awesome, so glad it's been great for you!
      I don't replace the cartridges until they fail personally and get so many prints out of the 6oz I wouldn't even know how to calculate that lol

    Big no-no pulling the power cord while head is in middle position. Check out Jose Rodriguez's explanation as to why it's highly unrecommended.

      Thanks for your comment. There are much worse things that could happen then your printer go through a full cleaning cycle... Some people would actually benefit from it. So I wouldn't really call it a big no no, personally.

      Hi Juan,
      If you look at the description of this video you'll see a link to where to get the ink kits (the ones I use) made by Precision Colors. Good luck!

    dam! i wish i saw this the first time i filled mine!, so what has happend to my cartridges is say i didn't cover the vent hole while filling? will it damage the printer or will i get away with the 1 time i have filled them? and make sure to cover the vent next time? thankyou

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  6 лет назад

      It shouldn't really be a big deal just forgetting to cover the vent once.
      It can allow too much ink to soak into the sponge and cause the ink to drip out instead of staying in the cartridge.
      If you are having ink spots show up while printing etc., this is probably the cause and flushing the cartridge thoroughly and starting off fresh should fix it.
      But I wouldn't worry just this once, unless it's having issues.
      Thanks for your comment!

    Does precision ink fade over time?

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  9 лет назад

      Enlightened Existence Thanks for your comment.
      Precision Color has a long track record of their inks not fading and being really high quality, I've also not experienced any fading myself. Thanks!

    • @m00zs23
      @m00zs23 8 лет назад

      +Enlightened Existence I have had a good experience with Precision Colors overall but the fading is actually a reason I am considering going back to OEM inks :( Sadly. They do not hold up well in direct sunlight situations at all. Some papers are better than others, but it still fades substantially compared to OEM ink prints.

      +Mela Carreira,+micah G robingson, How bad is the fading? That's the only thing holding me back. Not sure I'll be comfortable selling prints if they fade badly

      Buy a small kit and test it. I have not experienced any fading at all over prints I kept for a year, been very happy.

    anyone use this ink with a pro - 10? Inks for the pro 10 are insane and havent located a good refiller minus octopus. And these ink wells drain fast....

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  8 лет назад

      +Nick D Sorry I have no experience with the Pro 10 but the inks are custom to what they printer use so I wouldn't think that you could use these inks.
      Maybe try contacting Precision Color and see if they have any experience?

      Rawkicks The kit from Amazon may or may not (most likely not) be good quality inks. Ink is one of the most important steps in the making of a printed photograph and Precision Color uses great inks. So I'm gonna have to say I wouldn't go that route personally.

    Do not unplug the printer a big no no.

  • @kickstar126

    Two big No No's here, first, never use an Exacto knife cutting anything towards your hand, one slip and you are at least looking at stitches, second, never drill anything while holding it in one hand and drilling it with the other, this is just plain basic health and safety, I bet this guy uses a grinder wheel without safety glasses, like Home Simpson.

      Please. Keep these comments to yourself. This isn't a safety class and we are pretty lucky to have people like him to be guinea pigs for us. What do you expect a safety class and proper PPE before the demonstration on how to refill printer cartridges? Anyways. Thank you! For the video and throwing yourself out for us Micah G Robinson

      unlike others here, I can't help but 1000% agree with Locharald. It may not be a safety video but its still a how-to and you don't know the abilities / sensibilities of those following your steps. and then to defend this kind of recklessness just leaves me dumbfounded

    Don’t follow these directions, they are not completely correct. Bad advise. Go watch Jose Rodriguez’ videos. Don’t unplug and use the chip reader first. Unplugging while the ink is displayed will dry the ducts. You’re welcome. This video should be removed but I appreciate the effort.

  • @Zeppy007
    @Zeppy007 7 лет назад

    Wrong advice on the power! You might want to correct this video because the Absolute Worst thing to do is turn off your printer and unplugging is even worse! You will induce a Deep Cleaning Cycle every time you do this which is a Complete Waste of ink! And you should never reset your chips with ink in them because if they leak they will short circuit your resetter! Always reset chips with empty carts and before you refill them...

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  7 лет назад

      Thanks for your comment Jeff. You would be correct, if we were talking about any number of other printers, but the Pixma Pro 100 will go through cleaning cycles often if left on, all on it's own. Studies have shown it to use less ink turning off if you're done with it for the day.
      Also on shorting your DC USB powered chip resetter out, I'm not worried. Thanks
