Honestly, they are both nice. Since HB is often a good bit more $$, I would have to say the Firefly is the better deal. I have owned 4 of each and overall give them an equal rating. There were things about both companies I liked and didn't like. I did have to spend a good bit more with HB to get the same features I got from the Firefly.
Great review, Ben! I bought that exact same guitar a couple of weeks ago after seeing it reviewed by Raf. I originally bought it for the color changing, but now that I have it, I am most impressed with the neck and overall build quality. This is my 5th Firefly, and by far the most well made. I can't stop picking it up.and playing it every time I walk by it. I can't for the life of me see how a guitar could be this good, and cost only $169.91! Keep up the excellent and honest reviews, they are appreciated by those of us recreational players who would rather not pay the outrageous prices Gibson/Fender/PRS, etc., are asking for their products.
Good review buddy. New subscribed now. I bought an used Firefly LP Elite guitar several months ago. It cost me $130. I was surprised and shocked how well it is built. Love it. Won't sell it This guitar is beautiful 👍💯🎸🎸.
@@benpowersguitarI have more expensive guitars, but I play an FF338 almost exclusively. If I had to compare it to anything I'd say the Epiphone Sheraton I used to have, but for considerably less money. Going for about $200, they are definitely worth twice that. As for the FFTL, Guitar Gardens is currently out. If they come back with some colors other than the pink they had last, I'll probably pull the trigger.
I have the white FFTL with humbuckers. The neck feels absolutely amazing. The neck on my blueberry burst 338 is much much harder to play. The action came high on my FFTL and I haven't set it up yet at all just put on 9s Nickel Rockers semi-flats after breaking an e-string. I'm a new player but out of my 4 electrics including squire 60's vibes strat and epiphone les paul classic, thus is by far my favorite neck and surprisingly easiest to play without even lowering the action. I'm here because my model didn't have the split coils. The white one with humbuckers now on their website does have split coils again. And now i'm thinking about getting one with it lol. Probably the blue one I can't have two white ones.
I bought one and discovered the neck being so narrow it the nut that it is not possible to play an open Am chord and have the open high e ring and not be muted with my index finger. - can you?
Heard about a lot of quality control issues with Fire Fly. Some are great, out of the box. Some have a plastic nut, instead of bone. They often arrive damaged in shipment, or arrive with factory flaws. But then again, according to some RUclips reviewers, they arrive perfect, flawless. It seems to be a very hit or miss proposition. Also something to consider. If the material quality is really that good, at that price point, you have to know it was made by slaves. Could be some bad energy in that…
I have definitely seen some QA issues, but they have gotten better over the 2 years I have tried them. I think people forget, these aren't Gotoh tuners and bridges. Bone nuts aren't expensive. With the right equipment, you can cut a body and neck quickly. Buying less expensive mahogany (probably newer wood and not dried as long) in bulk makes the blanks cheap, and even retail you can buy the cheaper locking tuners and alnico pups for like $20. That's why I say good for the price. Now as for how they are made, labor, who knows. I know with the right equipment and all parts at my disposal, I can build a guitar in a few hrs. Obviously that doesn't include any painting. I imagine there is more time in the painting than everything else combined. I doubt there are any more hands on these than needed during manufacturing.
I think it's wired badly. It really doesn't do much and yes, pulling up seems to engage the full humbucker. My other coil splits pull to engage the split to single coil, and have a drastic sound difference. Though it does sound good either way, just not much SC sound to it.
That seems to be pretty close spec-wise to the Harley Benton Fusion. Love that color combo. It sucks it has the crack, but at least you are getting a credit for it. You seem to have the worst luck for getting guitars that have a cosmetic problem. I wonder if it is anything to do with the climate in UT while it is being shipped?
It's similar to the HB. I prefer playing this. Just love the neck. I have always had this luck with guitars, between 3 states. It's why at a certain price point I only buy from Sweetwater or Sam Ash unless I can lay my hands on it. My RG550 has been pushed back to Sept. I am hoping upon hope it comes in without issues. I have the Ibanez AZES31 in Purist Blue coming in Friday for a July review. Not planning on keeping it long, but it has an interesting switching system, so you never know.

I got mine late Spring 2023. Love this guitar. Have used it at gigs since then. No issues, lots of compliments.
Caribbean watcher here...I'm watching this and the harley benton....can't decide on which

Glad to hear you are having a similar experience with them. I appreciate the support. Thanks for watching.
That's a pretty guitar! Nice! Thanks
Super review Ben , excellent sounding one 🎸👍
Thanks you, I am glad you liked it.
Awesome review Ben!!!!
Thanks Robert. I hope you had a great Father's Day.
So many options nowadays. Latitude is another up and comer.
Yeah, it's great time for inexpensive guitars. I was just checking out IYV & Latitude the other day.

Thank you, I appreciate the support. Yeah Firefly's are really surprising, and only getting better.
If you've experienced Firefly's FF338, does this neck feel similar to that one?
I haven't tried one yet.

Yeah, it's not an issue. Mine isn't all that narrow.

Ben, I just called a guitar center - they said they still have a guitar you haven't bought in the past year. ... I know! I don't believe it either. ;)
Can't be true.
Is the coil tap wired correct on this one? Or pulling up gives you humbuckers?😂
I think it's wired badly. It really doesn't do much and yes, pulling up seems to engage the full humbucker. My other coil splits pull to engage the split to single coil, and have a drastic sound difference. Though it does sound good either way, just not much SC sound to it.
I got one but mine's blue and purple flip flop big difference when I change the strings I put 9 gauge strings really helpful
I agree. After the video I juiced the fretboard and put on my .009 super slinkys, it's great.
Hi any un level frets?
Nope, the frets are great. Thank you for watching.
Nice review! Is this guitar still available on their site? I couldn't find this guitar there
Currently they are out of this color.
🎸👍
