    This was so helpful. There are plenty of instructors and videos out there that dive right in and gloss over the basics. Well if you don't remember the proper positioning or conversion to begin with, the whole problem is wasted. With so much information thrown at students, it's helpful to have something that just breaks it down to us :) Shout out to everyone who struggles in math but is still pushing on!

    Such a helpful video! I do have a question though. On the first problem you did (on the computer) you have 50mg of Rx, but in the nursing cart you had only 25mg of the Rx. The answer you ended up with was 2 tablets to equal out to 50mg, which of course is correct, however what is really throwing me if that the sentence was written, "The doctor ordered 50mg of Metprolol TWICE a day for hypertension." So... does that mean the patient really needs 100mg's of Rx a day? Would the answer than be 4 tablets?? I'm sorry, I just am confused. Thanks for any help you can offer!

    • @NursingSOS
      @NursingSOS  3 года назад +4

      Abby England, getting the hang of how these dose calc problems are written can be part of the challenge of the dose calc exam too, so you are not alone in feeling this way! Keep doing practice problems, the more you do the more confident you will become! The problem is asking for how many tablets you would give your patient right now, if they were asking for how many tablets you would give them per day it would have specified per day. Unless the question specifies per day, it should be solved per dose since that is what you would be giving your patient at one time. I hope that helps to clarify it for you, friend! You are doing better than you think you are, Keep the faith!

    Hi, firstly thank you so much for your contribution to nursing education. I had a question when one of the answers in the video was 1000. When an answer is 1000 or greater, shouldn't anything at 1000 or greater have a comma (ie, 1,000 instead of 1000) ? Thank you in advance :)

    I have a short question regarding this type of material. My dosage calculation exam is upcoming in two weeks and I am practicing over my semester break. So, when completing dosage calculations involving parenteral medication administration, how do we know whether to round to the hundredths or tenths place if the question does not specify? I assumed if the answer is less than 1 mL we will automatically round to the hundredths place but my book is confusing me because some answers are in hundredths and some are in tenths place answers when less than 1-mL.

    • @NursingSOS
      @NursingSOS  4 года назад +1

      You're correct! If it's less than 1mL, you typically round to the hundredths place, if it's over 1mL, it's to the tenths place.

    Thank you for this video!! I do have a question about the acetaminophen for the toddler problem, these are the problems that give me all the anxiety. This may sound dumb and I’m so sorry. When you set up your problem in the “have” part you put the kg/lbs then mL/mg, would it have been wrong to flip them and instead go mL/mg then to kg/lbs? Hope this question made sense. Thank you 🙏

    • @NursingSOS
      @NursingSOS  2 года назад

      So happy to hear this video was helpful for you, Eloisa Olmos! 😊That isn't a dumb question! So as long as you can cross out your units then it will work and the order doesn't matter as much. But you would have to be able to cross out your units so that you are left with the units you "need" at the end. I hope that helps clarify it for you! 😀

    • @NursingSOS

      You would use the same calculations to get the min/max for dosages and the daily amount you would just do the additional step of adding however many doses there were supposed to be in a day (BID x2, TID x3) and for min/max calculate the range in between! Hope that helps! Thanks for being here, crystal brown!

    Hi, just a quick question on your first question: patient Mary.. if the order is for 14 days and you give the first day while at the hospital during the morning med pass doesn’t that mean you are sending the patient home with 13 days worth =3250mg? Or am I reading that wrong?

    • @NursingSOS
      @NursingSOS  3 года назад

      Great question, Bri Funni! So the key word here is "next 14 days" so today ( the day she was discharged) and then 14 days. Hope that clarifies it for you! :)
