Damn hard battle, guy kept running around in the necro fire from one side of the platform to the other. Didn't help I was 2 levels under level.

A whole damn lot of healing. I've been considering if it might just be worth to freeze him when I do my tactical playtrough. Get a bit of cursed ice somewhere out of the way and plonk him down on it.

i teleported him a place that he couldnt move anymore and he didnt take any damage

All I did was teleporting Jonathan down to the blobs and just bunker at the top of this tower, plastering the entrances with tar.. once the fire blobs appeared things got really messy

For anyone who's having a hard time, my friends and I were able to complete this quest by staying all the way on top at the highest tower, and blocking the stairs up to the platform with some crates. At some point the enemy units would just wait at the bottom and not move.
Some of them could jump onto the top platform but one of those things were easy to take care of since they were alone.
Also a ton of ice arrows, a hydro build mage help a ton too lol

This fight is my favorite in the game thus far. Getting Gwdian to not get dead was the hard part of it, and man, the fires turning from your salvation to the bane of your existence was a stroke of genius. I used water balloons, rain, global cooling, restoration / other healing spells, soul bind, and the necromancy spell to prevent death to keep the idiot alive. Lots of wonton charging into the fire going on. You definitely need to prepare for this fight and it's a challenging one if you want to actually save Gwydian.

I just teleported that magister next to that primordial oil blob.
Maintaining the high ground here and staying on the top platform was crucial and having air/water damage + something that destroys the cursed fire is good when the fire blobs show up. I had my summoner's summoning at 10 so was able to summon an water-infused incarnate champion to do the job.

I really enjoyed the game until this part. My co-op parter and I quit the game 2 years ago and have yet to return

Yeah, I hated it too. Forced me to lower the difficulty just to get by it and I almost lost a man or two.

its the only hateable fight in the game if you ask me. My friend and i did like 5 runs on highest level already, but most of the times we simply skip this quest.... just go in sneak and sneak by

I would also recommend charming arrows, blessing and raining on the fire to extinguish it, maintaining the high groud. Hard fight. Good luck

This was the most fun fight so far but gosh was it stressful. Old boy kept running around like a psycho while everything was on fire. I spent half the fight babysitting him and shielding him. It was long but wasn't too bad for me as a summoner on the high ground.

yeah ahah i gave up on him and let him die after 3 hours to try to save him, everytime i teleported him on a safe zone he kept going around walking through fire and all the enemies pointed on him. Just let him die and went on.
