Even with my splitter i have to go single once in a while. Another year in the books for me at 60 full cords done and delivered. Now its time to start over..😁👍
Joe, you "hit the nail on the head" with this video. Even though the vertical splitter is slower than horizontal splitters, you can: ---work at your own comfortable pace, at a comfortable table height; ---use your creativity to create almost perfect firewood of any size you wish; ---create splits with very little "slash" and waste; ---see the firewood inches from your face getting split; ---avoid the high cost of a processor, and get back to a simpler work style and splitter. I can see why people just love this machine. All of Chris Wolf's enhancements, plus a super quiet muffler, would make this a perfect splitter.
45°F Dewey, misty grey down here in Ashville Ohio, Joe... Typical October Ohio weather!! Buck, cut n split while ya can... old man's sneakin round the corner!!
I can only hope that an electric Axis will be an option one day as well. It can't be understated how much that option would improve the industry. To do this inside a building, like i would certainly perfer, would be a game-changer.
@@ohiowoodburner Andrew and his team just came out with a horizontal one. Its one of their bigger units. It's also like 26k or so. I am hoping for the Axis or Ultra to go electric. With the right personal setup, a person could work day, night, no major weather issues and sun exposure. That's my plan if I can get to that point and eastonmade makes more electric units.
@@iffykidmn8170 I mean you certainly have that point and it's valid. I feel that people can do whatever they want or is best for them. But say you have that option of a small abandoned warehouse or a large pole building. Are you taking that to work in or outside where you, and your equipment, are totally at the mercy of the elements? I'm taking the building 100% of the time and not putting thoughts into moving blocks. Plus, I would be dumping them (or unloading if I didn't have a dump bed) in there in the first place.
Hi Michael - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I contacted Super Split but they have no plans to expand into Europe. You can buy the Axis in the UK but it comes at a price that is hard for a non-professional to justify.
@@rodneysweetnam8653 yea must say don't no if a could justify it like. Have a 7 ton electric splitter the now granted there ain't much it won't split but the cycle time is arround 15 seconds which isn't great. Although going through arround 8 ton of firewood roughly per year would certainly speed up the process.
Yes my Friend perfect for Cutting and Splitting Wood Joe. This week I am cutting and Splitting as much as possible. Since I only us an Axe, and my 5ton Electric Splitter Downstairs, and this Year Only Splitting Stove Wood LENGTH I Should be ahead of it by End of Week. Trying to get my Woodyard in SHAPE. Looks like after this Week Joe it's going to get Cold. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg my Buddy.
Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. Over here splitting wet logs is more often as not the norm so it's an occupational hazard in which we are well versed. I always keep the bed clear of all debris and place logs firmly against the back to assist in keeping them secure. If the log has been cut at an angle I place the tallest part furthest away from me and against the back of the bed. Knives in Europe are angled down at the tip, which in addition to concentrating pressure on initial contact also assists in drawing the log away from you. If I was Andrew I would investigate the Eurooean approach.
31 and frosty grass this morning in Wisconsin. Still alot of stacked seasoned Oak and maple to sell yet but haven't had as many orders as other yrs. Yes i raised my prices $10 a facecord. Someone wants 6 cord of boilerwood at least but not for a few weeks. I could use a axis with a log lift. I have 30" oak rounds to split and hate wasting time noodling them into quarters to be able to lift onto my supersplit. I have a box store splitter but the hose is too short to stand up after replacing the control valve last year. So I don't use it much except for knotty pieces
Great video Joe, thanks for the chuckles too while watching, heh heh. i.e. referring to “A certain RUclips channel who shall remain nameless” .. Elaine from Canada here, I can see that after maneuvering those rounds and tossing the wood towards the conveyor, your “quads” would get sore! That Eastonmade sure has a fast cycle time, I had to check my playback speed to see if it was on normal! Nice. Good camera work as always. Cheers and hope you have another blockbuster week.
All it needs is a few blobs of weld on the table and that would stop the slipping. This might also make it a bit harder to manoeuvre larger blocks but that’s what I’d do🤷🏼
Hello Joe, my condolences for them not splitting the wood for You😂 Seems there is always a place for the single wedge splitters, we certainly do, take care my friend, PS Great Podcasts🪵👍🏼🇺🇸

Hey Joe, I just had a thought when I was watching you try to split that one piece that was over length I got to thinking I wonder if you laid that piece down open side up on the table and brought the wedge all the way down and got the split started while the piece was on the flat, and then may be flipped it up and jammed it on the wedge, like you were trying to do wonder if that would’ve worked.🤷♂️ just a friendly suggestion is all.
Believe it or not I do that all the time. I was just showing off on this vid. I had a shot where I toss the log in frustration but it didn't come out right. Otherwise I would have laid it down on the table like you said
First, It was great to meet you at Paul Bunyan earlier this month. Second, those that have vertical splitters seem to really enjoy them, did you find anytime to look at Wolfe Ridge’s new vertical splitter? Curious if you had an opinion as an operator of a vertical splitter yourself.
Thanks for sharing your day with us Joe. In answer to your Woodhounds question - wrap or bags? My vote as a firewood user not producer, is bags every time. They are recyclable and reusable whereas the wrap just goes to landfill. Sorry 😊
For your operation and how you do things, I don't see a box wedge splitter being the right choice. You chose well with the Axis. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like you are making a lot more bundle grade wood with the vertical splitter than you ever could with a horizontal splitter, box wedge included.
Joe, at our age things hurt a lot more then they use too. Any plans in the future to hire maybe part time help to do some things that would make your life a little easier? Take care and be safe.
Right there is why those vertical splitters that make you hold on to activators with both hands are just plane stupid Don’t get me wrong, regulations are needed, but please

When does the madness end?
Good morning Joe. Perfect splitting weather.
it sure is Roger!
Great way to spend a day off. Next week beautiful weather is coming sunny and in the 70’s, a little break from the rain.
It is a very promising forecast for sure Keith
Brother you KNOW you’re sore when you pull a quad in the shoulder! Haha
Haha.. i was waiting for someone to get it!
Watching the split wood go straight onto the conveyor is refreshing after watching so many channels without any conveyor.

It is getting close Greg no doubt!
Good morning, let me know when you're ready to cut up those larger logs. If I'm not busy,I'll try to make it to the woodyard.
Haha that would be awesome that would give me a chance to sit and watch someone else do the work LOL
Congrats on the good couple of weeks joe. Cant wait to see the ash go through
You've been quiet lately on your channel, Andrew, everything good? Not that you have post all the time to please me or anyone else just wondering.
Splitting Ash is one of the joys of firewood production andrew!
@Cody_Hohman88 have been kind of all over the place the last couple of weeks. Youll likely see some of the 40C this coming week
