Hi Andrew, Just wanted to say hello and wish you and your family a Merry Christmas. The boys are really getting big! Hope Santa is going to treat you all well. 😊 I've had my 12-22 for two and a half years now. I only produce firewood for my home. To me, the 12-22 is fantastic! Only problem is I quickly run out of stuff to split! lol. My 4-way is the taller version that serves as a single, if you drop it down for those big knarly rounds. Take care! Shalom/gw

I found that if you shut the tractor off and toggle the the third function to release the pressure that helps a lot. And making sure the implement is relaxed when it’s disconnected
Great video! Good to see the young lads helping their dad. Reminds me of when I was young. The splitter sure goes through the wood as fast as you can bring it. Auto-cycle really does make a huge difference!

Some of my fondest memories of time with Dad are doing the same sort of stuff your kids are doing. Amazing how seemingly little things stick in a kids mind and as a parent it might not seem a big deal at the time but you can't make an appointment for a special memory. A quiet discussion about super powers or a little time driving the tractor could be the memories and little life lessons they carry to help them be good people/parents someday. Good on ya!

Hint: Turn the tractor off! Then release the pressure on all the hydraulic control valves/cylinders. The disconnects will slide right in.
I gotta say you make one of the best splitters around. I have been debating for a while now but I think it’s almost time to order one up to come home to Maine.

Suggestion to alleviate the pressure, shut the machine off and cycle your valve. It will keep you from having to use a wrench!
I almost always have to shut my tractor off , turn the key back on and then hit the 3rd function buttons a couple times to relieve the pressure when I put my snowplow on. Easier and cleaner for me than cracking lines most times. Thankfully I don't have any trucks or equipment with emissions crap on it yet, but it'll be coming whether I like it or not
It will eventually happen. Bit of a pain but I'll get over it. I don't know why they don't have a pressure release on the third function like the skid steers. Thanks for taking the time to leave some feedback. Really appreciate it
agreed, cycle to the third function button with the engine off, key on, no need to crack the line.
I just ran the 5-11 with the 4-way wedge on some Elm, Andrew. Two thumbs up!! Here in Ontario, the big test for any splitter is how it handles the Elm. Really happy with it. Cheers and be safe!

Andrew, I LOVE your splitters. What I like even more is that you have your fine young lads with you in this video. They are a true gift in life. Don't work so much that you miss them growing up. I have heard about several older men breaking down in tears from working too much and missing their children younger lives. Please do not let it happen to you. I cannot imagine how busy that you must be with the splitters and processors and such. Anyway, thank you for making an older guy happy in seeing a father spend time with his boys. That right there is priceless! God bless you and your family Andrew. Tell your Mrs. that she has two wonderful little boys there. They are handsome lads. Probably take after momma ( just kidding ). Andrew, really like your Grand L. You will have less regens if you run that baby around at least 2600 rpm around the yard, and do not idle it to much. Works well with my Kioti. I usually get a passive regen occasionally, but can keep on going. Cheers

I always disconnect my hyd quick couplers as soon as I am done. That way the oil is hot and contracts as it cools off. Also park attachment in the shade in hot summer weather. Cold oil shrinks enough you can couple with out cracking lines. Works for me. And proves my theory every time I forget to do it.

Hi Andrew,
Great video getting the kids involved. As you know, we use our 12-22 almost exclusively with the 4 way wedge for the various sizes of logs we get. We feel its the best all round design for not just cracking open the big pieces and handling the small single split pieces, but also for breaking down and splitting away soft centres, etc.
As for your issue with the couplers, I have the same ongoing issue with our 2007 CAT 257B2 skidsteer. This skidsteer does not have any pressure relief valves to make it easier putting on attachments. I find the issue is rarely the machine itself, its usually pressure in the lines on of the attachment. That pressure build up comes from one of two sources;
A. Lines were still pressurized when last detached.
B. Hydraulic lines are exposed to sunlight which will cause pressure to build in the lines.
Solutions I have are;
1. Before disconnecting an attachment, shut off the machine. On level ground, turn the ignition switch back on but do not start the machine, engage the hydraulic system (take it out of park mode), and then cycle the joysticks (or levers) through its motions of forward, backward, up down, etc. I usually see one of the lines on the attachment flex to show its depressurized. Should be alright after that.
2. Park the attachment in a shaded area, this will help with keeping the sun off of the hydraulic lines resulting in a build up of pressure in the lines. It's less of a concern on a cloudy day. And happens more often in the summer than in the winter as the colder temps in the winter will keep the pressure in check even while in full sun.
If you perform solution #1 and the hydraulic lines in the attachment pressurize, you have no choice but to crack open a line or two. Keep a rag handy to clean up the mess. :)
When we are processing firewood I often have to switch between the grapple attachment and the pallet forks. Depending on the time of day I park the grapple attachment wherever there is some shade. I owned a MF-1623 several years back and it had exposed hydraulic lines on the tractor itself like your tractor. I often found myself having to use solution #1 for the tractor as well, assuming it was because the exposed black hydraulic lines were heating up from the sun. Only had that problem in the summer.

@@adventurerhoades I have a 4-way and a 6-way wedge. The one I use depends on the log diameter. But I think there is more scrap with the 6-way. BTW I have taken to putting a tarp under the catch table to collect the little pieces that fall off the splitter. It makes clean up easy. Shalom/gw
Hey, If you get the 4-way make sure its the "tall-boy". That way you can lower it and effectively have a single wedge. Andrew will know what I mean.
@@googleboy7 from what I've heard 6 way us best with 14-16 inch log. So sounds like I should maybe just get 4 way tall boy. I was wondering if you would prefer the box wedge over a 6 way also if it's really hard to change out

I am probably going with a mccormick or Branson to get away from the dang emissions stuff. They are still mechanical so when parts fall off it doesn't throw codes. Oh and close the grapple down shut off tractor, cycle the valve, disconnect grapple. Connecting the lines together on the grapple when not in use helps too.

Regents are a way to meet emissions, not the engine manufacturers choice, but they have been forced by EPA. The best thing to do is not idle the engine, and when using it make it work. Love giving my grandkids rides in tractors or fork lift etc. Stay safe my friend God Bless

when you stop the Motor and switch the Valve you release the pressure in the connectors will release. That would be without oil on hands and the ground.

I hear ya, my LX3310 went into regeneration about every 16 hours for the first 290 hours. I am currently at 26 hours without one. Many of those were right at the end of a project. I wonder how much wasted fuel that is?

2nd! Andrew, regen is a nightmare. We are having issues with our 3500 chevy for the fifth time because if the def system. I hate it so much. Anyways, great vid. By the way, is this the same machine that was in the previous video? Granted that's not bad looking wood, but it seems to handle it all like a champ.

@9:40. What I found with my grapple, when I unhook I leave the jaws about 1/2 open. If I closed them all the way I would fight those dang flat face couplers. Give it a try. Let me know if it helps.

Next time you disconnect your grapple hydraulics, take the time to shut off the tractor release the pressure by moving your remote back and forth. Then you don't have to get the wrench out.
Hey,,make one that will split big blocks up to 3 foot ..whole block at once,, design a auto loader for no touch operation..then design a auto sorter and packer...V8 power it,like a small plant..there is a fortune to be made in this field..also design a stove to use it..I'm a retired engineer,and it's not that difficult to do..you're on the right track..the secret is,,make it simple and reasonable cost..

Far as pressure staying in the lines. I'm wandering if the pressure relief is restricted? Malfunctioning?
I've been in the shop 6 times this year for the 2012 T800 with a ISX 485 Cummins, regen,doc,burn off injector, exhaust filter burned completely out. Oh yeah I haul Propane, Butane and Anhydrous Ammonia. 1st 2 products don't play nice with fire.
I know of a lot of guys that have a hard time with the big trucks. Hard making money when it sits in the shop. Really appreciate the support michael.
I drive a motorcoah and the big diesel engines in there scream like a banshee at 1500 rpm when doing a regen. However that beats the other option of having your engine derate on you at the most inconvenient time. Looks like the youngsters enjoyed riding in the tractor and helping dad out with loading the firewood in the bag.

I'm on the fence on buying this model. It comes with a 6 way wedge, can you swap for the 4 way? Also, could you raise the 6 way and make it a 4 way split or a 2 way split?
Yes you can swap the 6 for a 4 way. Both wedges move up far enough to make a single split (the wings on the 4 way will also lay flat) the 6 way can do a 4 way split or a single comfortably

Is it possible to make a 12-22 or 22-28 with the ability to put the log lift system on either side of the splitter "on the fly" with some quick/basic disassembly? Would it require dual hydraulic cylinders or could one cylinder be swapped from side to side?
It could be down. I don't see an huge advantage to it myself, but then again everyone's application is different.
@@EastonmadeWoodSplitters I split wood for customers throughout the year. Often they have a pile of rounds that need to be processed, and sometimes space is tight (driveways and such). I’ve had to do a lot of rolling big heavy rounds in the past because my log lift (Timberwolf) is on the wrong side, where being able to swap sides would have saved a lot of labor. Being able to swap towing ends on your splitters would probably help half the occasions, but I know there would come a time when I wished I could swap sides.

What’s the difference between 12-22 and the 9-16?
The 12-22 has a little faster cycle time, and has more standard features that are options on the 9-16. Other than that they are the same machine.
I bought a 2007, so I don't have to regen! Tell me how that saves emissions to run a tractor doing nothing!
It’s not that big of a deal when chipping or brush hogging but yes it seems to come when u don’t want it and as far as I’m concerned it’s making more pollution than saving

Is the auto cycle necessary with a box wedge installed? Seems like its better to have it and not need it rather than needing it and not having it.
No not neccesarily. A lot of the time running a box wedge the operator is standing right there to recycle the piece of wood. Where it comes in handy is for the last piece. You can cycle it through while your grabbing your next block. Thanks for the comment. Really appreciate it

I used the the mango marker, and every other magnet stick available. never seen one with a flip out like that. I'm ordering my 12-22 with Gerry this week, hows about throwing one of those sticks in :)

Try to remember that regen is to save the planet. High rpm for extended period of time to clean the carbon out of fine exhaust filter. Makes perfect sense if you think about it.
Yeah and luckily if it doesn't work right you have to do it again.
