@@AboutEffingTime I mean it. Podcasts are the great innovation of our time. 20 years ago no one could've heard George Bamford scream about journalists for 5 minutes straight. Texas watch lover here; just found y’all’s channel and I think this is my favorite watch gang on the tube. It’s refreshing to hear real fellas have a real conversation about their passion without having to listen to bleeps or unauthentic language.
Taking input from journalists is exactly the strategy that GM used in the 2000s to help turn around their brand perception and help gain a better perspective on where to focus their resources and efforts. I think it's pretty brilliant to leverage the media in the moonswatch instance
Exactly. It’s a great idea, but it’s something a struggling business that’s lost direction does, not a strong one. But that’s just how I see it. Adrian.
When the watch was announced, all my watch friends talked about was “if you could only have one, which would it be?” “How many are you gonna get?” It was all we talked about. Someone would post a picture of their new $0000 purchase and the reaction in the group would be “nice watch! So anyways, I really want the Mercury…”. I wanted the Saturn, I loved the idea of the ring around the subdial. I was one of those people shaking my head at the long lines and scalpers, saying “it’s gonna be online soon, just wait!” Now that the Swatch CEO has said there won’t be an online release…we don’t talk about it in my group. If a newbie brings it up, we all laugh and say “no way I’ll buy one, even at retail”. It’s become a pariah watch for us. I think that if they announced online sales tomorrow, it would be wildly successful…but not as successful as if they had done it from the beginning. I don’t think I’d buy one now.
Personally I think moonswatch was a great idea and thought that it would be great for watch lovers like me who don’t have a lot of money to buy omegas or Rolexs to own something that was partly omega. But when the watch came out most people bought it and just stuck it in a locker of people who are probably wearing a patek. The bigger brands need to do things to make sure it’s still reaches the entire community and not just their usual buyers
I completely agree with this idea of it being good for those who aren't in the position or don't want to drop omega money on a watch, annoyingly it was ruined by those selling the watches for omega money. A
But at the end of the day, it's a piece of trash that bleeds onto wrist. For some reason fashion brand watches are not ok to wear and everyone says 'oh you could have bought a seiko' when it's the exact same situation, people are buying them for the brand name. But I keep hearing the moonswatch is cool and not to be taken too seriously. If rolex did something like this there would be uproar.
And the whole thing is spoiled by the fact that there are plenty of watch lovers around the world who do not have a Swatch Boutique in their country.. and consequently had no opportunity to buy one if they wanted one.

I tend to agree with you on that point. If I got one I’m pretty sure it would go in a pretty high rotation on the wrist for me. I mean it’s not that expensive so it somehow feels like it could easily be something u slap on all the time and not really care if it gets beat up. But then it reminds you of space and all that jazz.
The G-Shock is the every person watch. It doesn't look out of place on anyone's wrist - it doesn't matter if you're 5, 25, 55 or 105, a man, a women or identify as something in between - there is a model for everyone. Features aside (who really uses all the features), its virtually indestructible and for the most part, pretty easily attainable. I love me a G-Shock.
I hope they don’t just limit this collaboration to the Moonwatch, this could be just the start of something of bigger future collabs. They could venture to expanding the concept to the Seamaster Omega x Swatch collab too: there are 31 varieties of the Sea theme for them to think about (e.g., Atlantic, Mediterranean, Red, Baltic, Arabian, South China, Celebes, etc). Another one is Railmaster collab series: the likes of Amtrak, British, Eurostar, Trenitalia, Oriental Express, SBB, etc). Better yet, the Constellation collab series would do great with so many possible variants.

@@FFFFelix it’s so awesome. I was swimming in a Swiss lake today marvelling at the sunlight dancing off its stealthy surface. Get one if you can. So happy right now.
Regarding the G-Shock question: G-Shocks are today, what Rolex was in the 1930s, 40s, 50s, and 60s. They're a durable watch with not that many frills, which "just work" and which will last. They're very well marketed and have an iconic design, which hasn't changed much over the years. I expect them to keep their design language well into the future and become future classics. All things which Rolex has done so well. I think that's why they're regarded as the "watch person's touch watch". There you go. That's my philosophy of G-Shock. I'd love a shirt. :)
It even shocked me when I rewatched it. I could imagine a micro brand, or even someone more established like Christopher Ward asking press how to manage a launch, but not someone with the corporate power or experience of Omega/Swatch Group. A
Exactly! And they fact that half the journalist are watch ppl and half are lifestyle, it affirms my thinking that they really don't know what they are doing or how to go about doing it. It's like throwing sh*t on the wall and hoping some will stick
The second episode was even better than the first. Well done. I think that Swatch made a big mistake by limiting it to a handful of swatch boutiques. Yes they got a lot of hype around the release because people thought it was a fun watch, but following the misleading claims (they will be available online) and lack of availability, a lot of those who became aware of swatch are only left with a bad taste in their mouth. Honesty would have gone a long way to curb that. PS: Keep the watch conspiracies coming.
About online sales, not going online is the best thing they could do (and the luxury they probably hadn't expected themselves). This has become their best asset not to make money from sales, but to get people visit the Swatch stores. I'd bet they will sell in more stores though.
@@Timeandtidewatches ruclips.net/video/0n69U1a8-Ls/видео.html the first riff of the album is your outro, given im a music geek from a an underground band would I hear that.
Making a move to grow and make money isn't a conspiracy. Also, how in the world are price increases, more vertical integration, higher certification (METAS) etc. a sign of struggle? I know what you mean but still the argument feels odd to me. Was fun listening to your discussions, thank you for the content.
I hope this channel grows beyond measure! it's so much fun and so true and authentic, I cannot wait for the gang to talk as such on other issues in the watch collecting sphere, shortages, limited editions... concerning the "giving the press, the reigns" it's absolute genius, because they have cherry picked the press, they have made them feel special, it's the old saying, feed the mouth you own the hand! Adrian's apple example is somewhat flawed as apple always launches a product with a massive "review" and test area for reviewers... it's in another way, saying: what do you think? I think Swatch is having a genuine shortage pain, where else Rolex ADs are manufacturing it, so there is really no stress comparison here. anyways, guys! you're awesome!
I was in Dallas, TX this weekend and I happened to walk by the swatch boutique and they had 4 Pluto models left so I grabbed one. I wasn’t really seeking it out but I kinda felt like I had to grab one! It’s a fun piece
I will say the way you described how Omega/Swatch showed you the releases and then asked, "what should we do?" Gave me chills... As in, "this is a dire moment for Omega/Swatch"
I had forgot the main issue with the Moon Swatch, and that is that it is not serviceable. If it breaks or gets too damaged it is junk. That is the beauty of the G-Shock. You can renew bezel, straps, customise etc etc. Nothing better than having a customised watch that no-one else does. On the subject of the G-Shock x Bamford. Wow that has blown up! Although I feel like I am the only person keeping mine?!?
i got one for retail (Mission to moon). I was really hyped and fortunate to get it. Anyway after 1-2 weeks of wearing, i feel dumb about it. The plastic glass is so cheap it scratches only if you look at it. and overall the watch its just a cheap junk of plastic… .only the logo OMEGA and the hype makes its desireable… .. so i proceed to sell the watch and was happy to even get a good margin on it, even if it was not my purpouse in the first instance
I knew that omega/Moon swatch launch was a huge deal because my Girl Friend was the person who told me about all the hectic lines at swatch stores and she doesn’t even follow watch news!! Mental…
G shocks are popular because they aren't intimiding to anyone and their design, features, price and durability make it an easy choice for someone who is looking for a easy watch to purchase.
Hey guys, a materials sci grad student here. I own a moonswatch and as for the material itself, I think this is basically castor oil based epoxy composite - which castor oil is used in green chemistry to make biocomposites.
Re: G-Shocks, I think it's SUPER hard to fault anything about them. There's likely one for everyone regardless of your tastes. They're tough as nails, the specs are great for the price, and they're just incredibly useful watches that will go anywhere and do anything.
I think the idea was brilliant, but agree the question of where to go from here is the big one. Had they introduced the entire line only to say; Each year we will release one “planet” until they have all been released, would have kept the enthusiasm alive for many years.

George, your new G-Shock was meant to be available today (20th July) online in the UK. Pots and kettles my friend 😁
haha, it is available online today, it's just traffic has crashed the site.
@@AboutEffingTimeha! Good luck. Looks really very nice indeed 👌🏽
@@FFFFelix it’s so awesome. I was swimming in a Swiss lake today marvelling at the sunlight dancing off its stealthy surface. Get one if you can. So happy right now.
So George what's next from the swtch group, is it "Rado x Swatch" or "Hamilton x Swatch" cause I don't think it's differnt colours
Nice content gentlemen
Thanks Sebastian. A
I totally agree with you guys about Baltic. They’re brilliant.
Keep it coming lads!
Great episode
I'm with Adrian. Shocked that a big group as Swatch asking journalists for direction.
Is this your mum Adrian?
I think the sistem51 is an incredible innovation and terribly underrated.
Before I even watch this, I know it’s going to be brilliant.
Awesome work chaps.
Looking forward to my Bamford Casio this friday !
Thanks Martin, and I hope it lives up to your expectations.
Really? 40 + mins on a bollocks watch
Nope totally shit in my opinion
Yes
About online sales, not going online is the best thing they could do (and the luxury they probably hadn't expected themselves). This has become their best asset not to make money from sales, but to get people visit the Swatch stores. I'd bet they will sell in more stores though.
The riff at the end of the show sounds a lot like CLUTCH the GOAT. Cheers
Link pls - I refuse to search clutch the 🐐- Andrew
@@Timeandtidewatches ruclips.net/video/0n69U1a8-Ls/видео.html the first riff of the album is your outro, given im a music geek from a an underground band would I hear that.
Mmm that stoner rock 💨🤘🏻
Great show guys, well done, again! Where do they go from here? Well, limited editions of course! 😄
You’re right, they could just continue the limited / hard to buy concept and launch more versions. A
Making a move to grow and make money isn't a conspiracy.
Also, how in the world are price increases, more vertical integration, higher certification (METAS) etc. a sign of struggle? I know what you mean but still the argument feels odd to me.
Was fun listening to your discussions, thank you for the content.
You can’t deny the hits they’ve taken with Bond and Olympics - but they’ve been on a rampage since 🦍
@@Timeandtidewatches bloody oath
You are!
Nailed it.
👻
Thank you for these. They are great!! Are you going to bring selling those t-shirts??
Indeed we are. And the lineup is looking hot. Stay tuned for the merch drop.
great conversation. love it. very insightful.
Very interesting discussion, thanks for this 😁
🎩
I like how they didn't beep the last "Fu**ing" and we got the proper full unadulterated fu**ing name on tape.
i got one for retail (Mission to moon).
You are immediately the expert in the room 👩🏼🏫
I have a MoonSwatch, it's fine. I WANT a Bamford x Swatch colab! Give me that!!!
Second that 🙋🏼
Awesome 👏 enjoyed that
Thanks for watching Jon 👍🏻. A
Do you all have a discount code for four pillars? thanks.
We do not sadly
nice one! you need a different kind of beep chime tho! 😂 …how bout some watch alarm ring tone or something?
Re: G-Shocks, I think it's SUPER hard to fault anything about them. There's likely one for everyone regardless of your tastes. They're tough as nails, the specs are great for the price, and they're just incredibly useful watches that will go anywhere and do anything.
I think the idea was brilliant, but agree the question of where to go from here is the big one. Had they introduced the entire line only to say; Each year we will release one “planet” until they have all been released, would have kept the enthusiasm alive for many years.
Whoah. Now that’s the first time I have heard that idea. That would have been such a good game plan. Good call
God this was a great episode!!!
I’m sure you lads have an other 2 hours in you! We’d eat it up and especially as you loose the structure. The banter on the live was 🤩 Btw the f1 TagSwach is genius. Especially as an of the cuff idea. These conversations could be trendsetters as the audience grows…
Someone else said we need an editor! 🤣
@@Timeandtidewatches
Do it in a way that you guys are enjoying yourself and it will rub off on us.There seems to be a thirst for long form minimally edited genuine conversation and the watch world has very little of that. You all are doing great work. I’ll be first to buy your EFFIN NATO 🤩
With Adrian liking field watches. Curious his thoughts on the Timex Expedition
