Why have I not think about using the rug glitch at all.....that staircase is really a pain in the ass to fit stuff under and I pretty much went insane every time I try to decorate my house. Thank you Cordless for reminding us!
Don’t know if you’ll see this, but if you go to select an item that you don’t own (atomic shop items only), it’ll allow you to purchase the item even if the item isn’t actually in the atomic shop. I didn’t have the red rocket counters, and when I looked at it in the build menu it popped up with the bundle despite it not being in the atomic shop currently.
You can also blueprint individual items, which allows you to place them under the stairs and in other inaccessible locations, but without spending valuable budget on rugs
You can also just blueprint the item you want to place, and then place it down via the blueprint and it'll be able to go there and under many other objects that have the same problem, and it won't take up the budget of the rug!

Have you ever thought of doing a hangar base style camp? You could have a tower beside it and stuff like that. I’m currently trying it but I’m terrible at building.
You do have to leave the rug, unfortunately. If you scrap the rug it will scrap the items that are sitting on it too. I like using the gray mat because it's the least noticeable with kind of floors I use

Hey cordless I know you probably don't do fallout 4 building settlement videos anymore but could you please make one for a pre war military outpost/base there are a few great mods for it!
Protip: if you want another building trick, you can make objects float by placing them on top of your CAMP unit. They won't be anchored to it, so once they're placed, you can move it without them being sent to storage. I know this was already possible with power armor, but I've had a lot more success using the CAMP unit (a lot of items that can't place on PA because they "need support" can place on the CAMP unit), plus you can place it on top of a different item to fine tune the height of whatever you're trying to make float. It seems like it can only be placed on one singular item, though; any time I tried going 1 object, 2nd object on top of 1st, CAMP unit on top of 2nd, I couldn't place anything on the unit. I used this just a few days ago to add some wall cabinets to my kitchen since Bethesda still hasn't fixed the fucking metal wall cabinet almost two years after release.
Same bugs going all the way back to fallout 4. Still unfixed after years. It's like they just said fuck it and copy/pasted the code over and called it a new game.

I once had my entire set of crafting benches on my roof because it just seemed like that was where they wanted to be

You can also move the foundation out from under the stairs, place the items on the foundation and move the foundation back under the stairs
