My dad works with hardie and it’s one of the best I won’t give a close estimate but let’s just remember that Hardie is a material company and third parties company are the ones installing this jobs in new house could easy be from 12-27k but the problem begins in old houses were there’s a lot of repairs a job that was set to 16k can easily go up by thousands i seen jobs going from 20k to closely 38k if you in a the MASSACHUSETTS AREA Solid state have you covered
I live in MA and have been wondering about a ballpark figure. I am not ready just yet so we have hesitated to call a contractor as we don’t want to waste their time. We have a shingled cape but when we redo the exterior we want the colored shingles or siding.
I'm in an 80-plus year old house, and about six years ago I had a lot of the clapboard siding replaced with new wood. Today the only wood that isn't in bad shape is the old wood that wasn't replaced. Hardie doesn't match the deeper shadows of the original siding (I know, there is an addition that is sided with Hardie plank) and it doesn't match the sidewalk appeal of the older houses in our neighborhood. By the way, I had to replace a lot of the then-17-year-old OSB on the addition in 2015. Is exterior-grade plywood a better material for the sheathing?
Zip is what you want. It installs the same as osb but, it's Coates with a moisture resistant coating and does not require Tyvek. The product has a 30 year warranty.
@@ReturnTheSanity The problem with Zip is that its perm is only 1, so it will not pass water vapor away from the stud cavity, which, over time, will lead to condensation on the inner surface of the Zip, which could then lead to rot/mildew on any thing contacting the Zip: studs, sills, headers
Hmm.... company just quoted me $77K to do my whole house, at 3120 sq feet. Yes it is an old house, and the original siding from the 70s is shot and one small side wall is rotten so likely some extra work there. And it is a split entry 2 story, so like 3 stories high on the back. But $77K? After watching this video, I feel like their quote is way too high.... I'm in the Seattle area, but the company is in everywhere from WA state to TX.
Just had a Hardie installer quote a small job at my house to replace a settings floor cedar shingle tear out and replace. It's 220 square feet total. The quote came in this morning at $9,200. Freaking crazy. The quote was itemized by material and labor costs. Materials alone were over $6,000. It's like 10 Hardie panels! How the hell?
@@dylanwheaton2785 Yeah I ordered all the materials myself for $1,400. This isn't a hard project. I wanted to pay a contractor, but $38 square foot is insane.
When you figure out the square footage do you subtract for window and door openings and only include the portions that will actually have new siding on them? Or do you include the size of the entire wall including window and door openings?
More accurate answer: you don't count them for ordering your siding, you count in the installation price (usually more expensive) because they have to work around all the doors, windows and exits
I always thought that the America is a continent, not a country, 😅😅😅😅 United States is a country in America right? Somebody please help , I am very ignorant 😅😅😅
This video was so helpful. Very well-explained. Thank you!
… for the Houston Texas market…. The highest bid he states here is not possible in my market. Videos like this make it harder for the rest of us.
About the comments. Nowadays Companies are to steal the money everywhere. The guy explains well.
Does this price that you quoted include Sheathing and Tyvek house wrap or just James Hardy fiber cement siding?
Very informative video. I appreciate that you took time to share price range and explain
Does that include caulking and painting?
Thank you for the video. Do you recommend anyone in San Antonio?
4'x8' siding repair. How much would that cost?
I live in Los Angeles, too bad I can't get you guys to come to give an estimate but thank you for all your honest informatios.

What if customer is providing all material ? Bay Area .. Galveston Tx
Does your price include any OSB that needs replacing? Thanks for the excellent video.
Yes it does. But it will be closer to $12/sqft than $6/sqft depending on the amount of OSB needed to be replaced.
What is OSB?
@@adriennekirkland719 plywood
@@adriennekirkland719 Oriented Strand Board. It is not the same as plywood but serves a similar function.
Hey I am confused so with this pricing procedures? painting for instance the entire house is included??????? Any one Help

But they will add $$$$ because they have to cut and go around all the windows. The siding is not the expensive part. It's the labor!!
Should be a 1min video
In other words, call a siding contractor for a quote. OK, got it.
$45 per 4x8 sheet in VA.
Those that include wrapping tapping caking ?
Yes
Talk a lil too soft but clear and very informative, thanks for the video bro
That's wild tbh, we would go broke charging such low numbers.

Please consider customers who use the metric standard. Refer to "area" instead of "square footage."
Use the conversion chart like we do here in the states. Don’t see me complaining
@@harryl7946 Another solution - memorize just one or two conversion factors : one inch is 2.54 centimeters - it's easy
@@timgreenhoot5849 bingo!🤗. Together we can achieve anything!
Seriously? Try this,
“hey Siri, convert 2400 square feet to square meters”
Siri,
“223 square meters”
He's covering customers in Texas... which is unlikely to use metric.
