This is the Manga that inspired so many anime and video games. I got my brand Tattoo 25 years ago and went to Japan to visit Art of War to buy my behelits. It's epic and still going strong. Thank you Miura San. If you end up in Tokyo and don't speak the language and end up in a Manga shop, sound out "Ba za ka" they will take you to their Berserk section and often you'll get the royal treatment from the employees.

I laid in bed for like 10 min just from being upset after this episode. You should read the manga if you can. The other anime adaptions don't capture the tone and story as well as this one did.
Found this on the fandom interviews page: Interviewer: You knew from the start how it was going to end. Miura: I knew the Eclipse was coming, so there truly was nowhere to run! Also, there's a reason I made the Golden Age arc as long as it was. I felt dissatisfied with the so-called flashback scenes in a number of works. It's typical to stick flashbacks in just as a short break in order to maintain the pace of a story, but I wanted to potently feel, from the bottom of my heart, the reason for Guts' revenge and the basis of his character development. If the flashback lasts only a short time, it runs the risk of merely amounting to information. Since I'm the one drawing it, I need to make it more of a story you can invest in emotionally... and that's how it ended up being sooo long [laugh]. Interviewer: But it's because this happened that Guts' anger comes through sufficiently. Miura: I had to make something that readers would accept was enough to make anybody angry. Because of that, it came down to how dramatically and naturally I could depict Guts fully forming his precious bonds with people. For the relationship between Guts and Griffith, I'm using myself and my close friend and fellow manga artist Koji Mori (Suicide Island, etc.) as a model. Which one of us is Guts and which is Griffith switches from time to time, but I think it serves as a symbol of male friendship. Interviewer: You put so much emotion into those characters, and when the Eclipse happens, they're all gone. That must have left some scars on you as the artist. Miura: I was emotionally invested in each character, so I felt more depressed than scarred. And the story went way down in popularity with the readers around the time of the Eclipse [laugh]. Many readers were furious that I'd do such a thing to the characters they liked. My editor at the time was concerned but also of the opinion that we'd just have to follow it through to the end. The point I had to pay attention to was making sure the flow of the story wasn't completely severed with the Eclipse. That's why I spared Casca. If she had died and the serialization had continued for a long time, I feared the reason for revenge would become something of the past; and if Guts were to establish new relationships, then his incentive would waver. It may seem calculating and unpleasant, but it's because Casca's by his side that he can never forget the Eclipse.
If you want to continue the story the only real way is to read the manga. The 2016/2017 anime should be avoided at all cost. The biggest problem with any of the anime adaptations is that they all unfortunately exclude some major characters or scenes. The 1997 anime you just finished covers roughly Vol. 1, then skips Vol. 2/3, and then covers Vol. 4-13. Currently there are 40 Volumes of manga available to read in English and it is still ongoing.
@@kyokyoreacts Manga is godlike, but remember that Gutts character in first manga volumes (its after eclipse) isnt as much developed and author didnt create at the time Casca and BotH characters. So he is like Gutts but not like Gutts in the same time... if that make any sense.

Berserk is an incredibly beautiful, deep story but also incredibly dark and depressing with a quite extensive content warning list. It is not for everyone, but it is a very rewarding read with compelling three-dimensional characters throughout, even in the side cast.
i actually don't find it that depressing. i'm only at vol 23 and yea it's pretty dark, but the real deep and crazy hard-hitting moments like this i find to be few and far-between, and mostly light-hearted and comical (after golden age arc). filled up with lots of character development and comedic banter to fill in the gaps where griffith or some twisted insane apostle or cult leader/monarchs not there to stir the pot. i'm at hawk of millennium empire arc and already there's been 3 characters whose primary purpose is serving as comic relief.

Poor Guts! That whole ending was so infuriating, especially watching it in the movie again... grrr! I'm currently reading the manga and I'm hoping Griffith gets what's coming for him! >:(
The story only gets better with the Conviction arc which sees Guts reunited with Casca at the end. It's quite a heavy turn of events that really changes the dynamic of the story. The Conviction arc and The Black Swordsman arc are really underrated and if they do create a show that will follor the events of the manga, they need to include Puck. Puck is always cast aside. And Guts childhood.
Many are saying read the manga, you can read it if you want, I have, it’s currently 373 chapters long, it is very good but also flawed in my view, I also must add that it is EXTREMELY GRAPHIC, In ways that make this anime look PG, just keep that in mind.
My introduction to berserk was in the early 00s long before youtube I'm 33yrs old.....been an anime fan since the early 90s. Berserk is in my top 5 anime of all time....I had also sword of the berserk on the Sega dreamcast back in the day. One symbolism to point out here is Guts having to face again his childhood trauma......The eclipse was a reflection of his childhood being betrayed by Gambino sold to a pedophile for one night.....Guts did not have his sword.........he was ''powerless''.......during the eclipse here again his trauma surfaces again..as the woman he loves is being ........well you know :( he again did not have his sword....and like his child hood being pinned down being ''powerless'' Thus the tears...... I haven't kept up with the manga too much because Kentaru Muira tends to put berserk on ''HIATUS'' thus there is NO ENDING IN SIGHT urrrggh..... I won't spoil anything in the manga past this point....but imagine how you would feel seeing this in the early 00s and having to wait YEARS!!!! To find out what happened after this lol You should react to the 3rd movie to see what happened after this......
@@bludragon3190 I might revisit berserk if Muira finishes it......the fear of many berserk fans is that he will die before it gets done and then this series is in limbo
You need the opening because the last line of the song is ''its too late.....its too late''..........see ? lol Funny how the Eclipse is Volume 13 and your video is 13 minutes long LOL The song during the eclipse you are hearing is called ''MURDER'' 7:34 SON GOKU!!!!!
Thank so much! I'm the kind of person who will read a panel multiple times and admire the art for like 5mins XD so it would be a little less entertaining than the anime reactions XD
A lot of people like to discourage you from watching the new anime because its the topical/cool thing to say since it generally accepted that its animation quality sucks in comparison to the original anime here but if your someone who does not mind poor animation CGI and you are only interested in watching what happens after the ending of the original anime (episode 25) than you should first watch the netflix movie namely fast foward to the eclipse and watch those events to get what happens immediately afterwards such as how Casca and Guts escaped, afterwards you should then watch the 2016 anime since it DOES continue the story after that despite everyone complaints that it was CGI instead of the original animation style, and once your done with that THEN you should go to the manga with chapter 308 as your starting point. I get that the manga is better as a longtime berserk manga reader but I also understand some people would rather set back and relax and watch if they have the opportunity as opposed to finding and clicking through chapters online so this is just in case you want to get everything you can out of the animes storyline wise and then finally move on to the manga.
Yeah? I'm actually ended up starting the manga from the beginning. I do eventually want to watch the newer versions but on my own time, not a reaction video. Hmmmm.... so you say watch the shows first eh? Maybe I will! :)
Enjoyed your series. The 3 movies from 2012 are okay, but just covers the same arc as this anime. If you have a lot of free time and know that it is shitty going in, the 2016 anime exists. It is "new" Berserk anime, but that's about it.
Yeah... F*** GRIFFITH! First he gets upset because his boytoy becomes a man and doesn't want to be his boytoy anymore. Then like the soyboy he is, Griffith decides to be extremely rash and have a little fun. Even worse, it looked like he stayed the whole night instead of yeeting out of there instantly, like an amateur. Oh, but yeah he'll place the blame on Guts instead of realizing that he screwed himself. I mean without Guts, Griffith wouldn't have been in as good of a position as was in since Guts kind of carried his army at times, while Griffith reaped the rewards. This was well displayed by the gap that was created between Griffith and Guts in martial skill, when only 3 years prior they were near-equals with a slight advantage to Griffith. I only just started reading the manga but hopefully Griffith gets his just desserts. Side note: I think that Guts' and Casca's relationship was kind-of toxic. I don't know if this is a hot take, but it felt like when you get with someone who just broke up with their ex but they still have feelings for them. I know some people say that Casca just saw Griffith as a leader, but it definitely seemed like there was significant romantic investment on Casca's part. Thus, when Griffith displayed some semblance of interest by jumping on top of her in his initial broken state, Casca immediately was like "Ehh I can't go with you Guts because (I love) Griffith (more than you). Maybe I'm wrong, maybe not Holy cow that was long, END RANT Anyways, subscribed because this was a great reaction series! I really like the introvert vibes and wit, it really felt "cozy" in a way, at least as an introvert. I'll probably watch your HxH reactions next Edit: Because my grammar was atrocious, and it probably still is but oh well.
Yess, so many emotions 😭 I started reading but it's such a hard read! 😫 I'll probably pick it back up later on but damn it's.. a lot 😬 let me know when Guts gets his hands on Griffith for me 😅 Thanks for watching with me hope you enjoy the HXH reactions! 🤗
You should most, most definitely read the manga. It really expands on the story and continues way after the anime ends. It's full of beautiful, classic panels and also happens to be way more graphic. Idk if you'd count that as a pro, a con, or neutral.
@@kyokyoreacts Oh wait there's more. The romance is so much more well done in the manga, right? I felt like it was so much more organic and natural than what I saw in the Netflix three parter. I don't remember how well it was done in the 97 anime.
@@tristessa771 yeah for sure, they didn't mention the abuse Guts went through in the anime so the scene where Guts seen himself in Casca was new, also it seemed like the connection was much more in the manga than the anime at that moment.
I recommend reacting to Flame of Recca. It's a 90's anime that's about a boy who wants to become a ninja set in modern times. It's a dark show with comedy throw in, kind of similar to Yu Yu Hakusho as far as art and the fighting. It's underrated and I haven't seen anyone react to it before. Would appreciate it if you gave it a shot.

You should read the manga, not only because it’s the original or because you see what’s happening afterwards, but because it has one of the best art-styles and has scenarios that were cut out of the anime
Kinda late in responding the question but yeah you should definitely read the manga. But feel free to take your time tho, cuz sadly the mangaka will not finish the series anytime soon. lol Oh yeah, you should also watch the movies cuz they are pretty fucking good too!
And now you need to read the manga. Even the 97 show had cut Many MANY things from the Black Swordsman arc and the Golden Age arc, specially towards the end. I think the 3 moviues they did a few years ago are more accurate in that regarde, but they also stops after the Eclipse.
@@kyokyoreacts Oh the crazyness will go up a notch after that, you'll see... Also small spoil but don't be too alarmed if you skip from chapter 92 to 94( if you read the scans that is), there is a Missing chapter, that Miura din't include in the completed tomes, cause he thougth that it revealed waayy too much info on some parts of the plot and the world, that would have been better to keep secret for longer. Now if curiosity takes the best of you when you reach that point, you can always find this 93th chapter (also nicknamed the Lost Chapter). Its not that it is absolutly vital to the comprehension of the plot, but it gives huge insigth on how the world works, but it doesn't ruin anything in the plot honestly, so its up to you
Yeah, I didnt hate the 2016-2017 anime near as bad as others apparently did, I just enjoy seeing Guts do his thing. That said, it is nowhere near as good as the 97. This Golden Age story arch is story telling perfection, a once in a generation caliber tale, and the 97 anime really benefits from that amazing soundtrack.

Poor Guts! That whole ending was so infuriating, especially watching it in the movie again... grrr! I'm currently reading the manga and I'm hoping Griffith gets what's coming for him! >:(
@@kyokyoreacts i watched a little bit of the 2016 anime but ,the drawings are not as good :( so it feels less intense to me .
@@liliks14Awe that sucks :( I'll prob check it out after I've finished the manga
Maybe she wanted to read that and find out for herself 🤔
To find out what happened after this lol
You should react to the 3rd movie to see what happened after this......
If you want me to update you on the manga I can.
@@bludragon3190 I am aware I know many of the main important points....not to be discussed here many important spoilers
@@bludragon3190 I might revisit berserk if Muira finishes it......the fear of many berserk fans is that he will die before it gets done and then this series is in limbo
@@JIX9ISLER1986 Yeah that is one my fears about the series
@@bludragon3190 I'm planning on reading it so I am good, but thank you! :)
rewatching your reaction...did you ever find out yet how guts made it out ?
I thought it was the Skull knight
@@kyokyoreacts 💀😴 maybe.......lol
An emotional ride
You need the opening because the last line of the song is ''its too late.....its too late''..........see ? lol
Funny how the Eclipse is Volume 13 and your video is 13 minutes long LOL
The song during the eclipse you are hearing is called ''MURDER''
7:34 SON GOKU!!!!!
You should have read the manga on your channel too. I enjoyed your reactions to the anime.
Thank so much! I'm the kind of person who will read a panel multiple times and admire the art for like 5mins XD so it would be a little less entertaining than the anime reactions XD
Reaction was the same as mine when I 1st saw it.
Any questions you wanna ask?
I actually got the answers I need thank you! :)
Oh! Also I have watched the movie! :)
The story begins with this episode.
If you don't want to make a trauma, you should watch season 2.
Enjoyed your series. The 3 movies from 2012 are okay, but just covers the same arc as this anime.
If you have a lot of free time and know that it is shitty going in, the 2016 anime exists. It is "new" Berserk anime, but that's about it.
did you watch the movie or read the manga? do you know know how guts got out?
Yes! I watched the movies :) I am currently reading the manga from the beginning now
Esse anime é incrível um dos melhores que já vi até hj
Foi tão bom! Estou lendo o mangá agora! :)
Maybe I'm wrong, maybe not
Holy cow that was long, END RANT
Anyways, subscribed because this was a great reaction series! I really like the introvert vibes and wit, it really felt "cozy" in a way, at least as an introvert. I'll probably watch your HxH reactions next
Edit: Because my grammar was atrocious, and it probably still is but oh well.
Yess, so many emotions 😭 I started reading but it's such a hard read! 😫 I'll probably pick it back up later on but damn it's.. a lot 😬 let me know when Guts gets his hands on Griffith for me 😅
Thanks for watching with me hope you enjoy the HXH reactions! 🤗
You should most, most definitely read the manga. It really expands on the story and continues way after the anime ends. It's full of beautiful, classic panels and also happens to be way more graphic. Idk if you'd count that as a pro, a con, or neutral.
Yes! :) I just got to the part where Guts and Casca do the deed ;)
I didn't see either of those anime but Ill def check it out! :)
@@kyokyoreacts 90s era imo is the ''golden age'' no pun intended of anime
Have you seen cowboy bebop ? this released one year after berserk in 1998 this is also in my top 5 all time anime
@@JIX9ISLER1986 That's actually on my list! I have never watched it before but I think I may have been spoiled by an AMV I've watched about it. You can find it under "Evil Spider-Revenge amv" I liked the amv so much I even saved it on my laptop LOL
@@kyokyoreacts Its still worth a watch because honestly like berserk there really is nothing else really like it.....whats funny about bebop and berserk is I almost overlooked both of them...but after watching both are in my top 5 easily
My top 5 anime protagonist in no particular order
1) Spike - Cowboy Bebop -1998
2) Kenshin - Rurouni Kenshin -1996
3)Guts - Berserk -1997
4)Goku - Dragonball/z/gt -1989
5)Kenshiro - Fist of the North Star -1983

1997- Golden Age
Manga Golden Age = volume 1-13
You are at the point called the ''Age of darkness''
You should read the manga, not only because it’s the original or because you see what’s happening afterwards, but because it has one of the best art-styles and has scenarios that were cut out of the anime
I'm currently reading it online :) I actually saved a few panels already too! :D

Kinda late in responding the question but yeah you should definitely read the manga.
But feel free to take your time tho, cuz sadly the mangaka will not finish the series anytime soon. lol
Oh yeah, you should also watch the movies cuz they are pretty fucking good too!
Haha yeah will do. Yes! Watched all three, was well done. I actually really liked it :)
you kinda look like caska :)
I smell a cosplay comming! :) Thanks!
And now you need to read the manga.
Even the 97 show had cut Many MANY things from the Black Swordsman arc and the Golden Age arc, specially towards the end.
I think the 3 moviues they did a few years ago are more accurate in that regarde, but they also stops after the Eclipse.
Currently reading and getting A LOT of new information xD I'm at the part where they are all about to go save Griffith from the dungeon! :)
Its not that it is absolutly vital to the comprehension of the plot, but it gives huge insigth on how the world works, but it doesn't ruin anything in the plot honestly, so its up to you
GUTS IS ON A FUCKING WARPATH FROM NOW ON
💔
The Berserk Manga is more clearer in flushing out the stories lines, the 1997 Adaption is better, but the 2 other movie adaption is less accurate.
Read manga... from the beginning. It explains so much.
Yup! :) started it a few days ago
You can watch 2016 and 2017 as It dose go further into the story but it’s not as good as the 1997 anime or the manga.
Yeah, I didnt hate the 2016-2017 anime near as bad as others apparently did, I just enjoy seeing Guts do his thing. That said, it is nowhere near as good as the 97. This Golden Age story arch is story telling perfection, a once in a generation caliber tale, and the 97 anime really benefits from that amazing soundtrack.
berserk sad ending ever poor guts
:'(
Pretty sure Guts is a demon. I believe Zodd is his daddy
Cool she like berserk kyo
