      @cyotee doge Kind of me point - the topic is deep, but it is the kind of deep that is inhospitable to actually exploring. Like the Marianas Trench. The whole thing is a cycle of death, rebirth, and breaking cycles. A monolithic topic about as penetrable as a mile tall obelisk of black steel. Speculation on such a thing can only ever be surface level by its nature.

I know they say separate the art from the artist but actually funding people that clearly share the same garbage idea's as someone like Zoe Quinn is a no for me. Tbh I kinda assumed that rei is the will to live who keeps on resuscitating echo and echo is bitter in some ways because sure they're alive but they are also in and out of the pain of life. The other characters are people pushing their ideas onto her.
    The doctor saying give up.
    The religious person saying you need to beg for penance.
    The people who have to constantly grieve for you over and over every time they hear you're in the hospital again. Will you die this time? We don't know.
    But when rei and echo finally fuse to me it kind of looks like a flatline. Thus ending the game with the ambiguity of death
    Cause no one knows what happens.
    And them I saw the final cutscene.... and I take back this comment

    • @feufolli
      @feufolli 2 года назад +2

      This metaphor is still valid if you see it as trying to heal their condition.
      Rei being the ever new hope of another surgery or medication, adding maybe a little bit of time but always suffering through it.
      And finally by accepting the truth, beginning to live, instead of struggling for a false hope.

    The Epic Games curse. So many games come out in it that get ZERO coverage until they release on steam. Bloodroots, Atomicrops, there are so many indies that release there that spend the first year of their lives dead. I know that Epic gives them a shitzillion dollars for exclusivity, and that if not for the Fortnite money a lot of these indies would have to seek out other routes for funding, but it condemns many games to middling success.

    great discussion with intriguing insights and well-placed humor - appreciate you creating and sharing the vid.
    as far as i can tell, this game is criminally underplayed and unknown to the masses. learning how small the dev team was, it's remarkable how fun, inventive, smooth, and polished the game is. the art direction, the writing/collectibles, the VAs, the little hidden scenes of birdhouses you can find that serve no purpose - it's all such a joy. then layer on top some existential dread paired with the quandary of inevitable death... chef's kiss.
    the pathless had been my favorite indie gem up until now but solar ash is stealing that crown for sure. hats majorly off to Alex Preston and sending him well wishes along with a big big thank you for creating something so lovely, fun, and deep.

    Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream and the world will not grind you under, it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering it's a feather bed.

    I really liked your analysis of this game. The only thing I might add as part of the concept, is the game seems to be also about accepting the dark parts of ourselves. It's similar to some of Carl Jung's theories, about integrating the shadow, or acknowledging and validating the dark parts of ourselves which are usually manifested through unconscious. Everything is a dance of opposites.

    I kind of didnt get the whole mushroom thing when i played the game, and upon finishing it i read it as a tale about loss, grief, cycle of bargaining for a redo, agony that comes with realising that you've crossed the point of no return, the "star seed" being a metaphor for false hope that sucks you back into a spiral of bargaining and panic. The final boss fight is your ego in agony, and your true self is trying to save the ego from selfharm, before they reunite and decide to move on.
