I used to drive a delivery truck way back when the Asylum Street Spankers showed up live on Bob n Tom. It had me rolling and I lost control of the wheel and drove into a large pile of leaf filled garbage bags at the end of someone's driveway while doing an estimated 5 mph. Everything was fine, no harm to anything. The guy that had just bagged all of the leaves and was sitting on his porch laughing his ass off and had some headphones on. I got out and apologized and was explaining what happened while he kept chuckling. Once I said Bob n Tom he started laughing again and then found a small amount of composure to say that he was listening to the song on Bob n Tom and that's why he was laughing. He was recording it on an old walkman recorder and he played it back and we were both in tears. I always thought it was hilarious and strange the way this song created a moment that I will never forget.
This band is great. I will never forget when I had the privilege to see them live in the 90's. If you ever get the opportunity pay the ticket it is worth every penny.
I remember, this song was the holy grail for me and my friends in 7th grade. Like, it was legendary. The Asylum Street Spankers is pretty much the best band name of all time, also.
She is AWESOME! I'm suprised how many people don't 'get it'....it sounds just like the old Vaudville singing/vocal style that was 'in' back then. Think old musicals or even the difference between something like the Wizard of Oz as comparted to the more modern CATS. I think the band is just brill!
I have personaly met this entire band, have signed records with personal messages, and have seen them countless times. I love them, they are VERY talented. The best shows I saw them perform were at "Little Brothers", in Columbus Ohio.
@@christinadoxstader3004yep and they raised the fcc fines by like 10 times in 2005 or so.... I just don't get it personally...scrotum? it used to be as ok to sing that word as to sing hand or foot or ear....
After listening to about 100 of the "recently discovered rare vinyl" songs that have been popping up like wildfire lately, this came up in my feed and I legit thought this was another AI generated classic. Asylum Street Spankers truly ahead of their time.
This is a very popular chord progression, it turns up in dozens, if not hundreds of folk/blues songs in the 1920s and 1930s. I would say at that time, it was as common as a 12-bar blues. Other tunes like this include "Ostrich Walk", "Pray For the Lights to Go Out", etc. Don't just give me (or TeddyOrtega9) a thumbs down for saying this, go listen to those other tunes and you will see we are correct. I'm sure even the Spankers themselves would readily agree with me.
Ok.... How the fck do 7 people get together and sing using this language. let alone afford studio time, the singer is a complete BEAST. lol holy shit, America is awesome!
HotTimeHarv is right in that she is trying to sound like Helen Kane (Betty Boop). However Ms. Kane only represents a very narrow slice of the wide variety of different 1930s female vocal styles in pop, blues, and jazz.
the version I learned long ago was slightly different. Instead of "it's my wrinkly, crinkly bag of skin," it just went "S-C-R-O-T-U-M," for one thing. But this was quite polished, thanks!
Great - I will look for "Ja-Da". But who is the guy - not a Spanker - who does this tune with a verse that goes, "My daddy was a preacher - but I ain't got no podium - so sometimes I don't know whether to scratch my watch - or wind my scrotium" ?
I have to agree with KWoodman1. Musically this is really good. The subject matter is a bit childish for sure but that is what makes the entire production have such a great flavor!
OK I just looked this group up, turns out they're already successful and they have a lot of great musical influences, and if that is REALLY Christina Marrs singing in this video (I'm not sure), then she doesn't normally sing like that at all, which is a relief.
You need to consider the context of the music style. She captures perfectly the vocal stylings of the period that this song (and everything I have heard them do) comes from. That kind of vocal style was very popular in the '30s and early '40s. Check out Betty Boop to get an idea of what I mean.
That vocal style originated from a singer named Helen Kane. Her career was pretty much over by 1931. When Max Fleischer came up withe the Betty Boop character, Helen Kane sued and lost. Cheers...
I've had my stuff ripped and modified before, but never to be viewed by so many.. My buddy and I wrote that Scrotum bit in High School, in '81. I'd love to know how you got a hold of it.
What if Joanna ever does an animated version of this to..... Nah, she can't. She's a nice animator! She can't do an animated version of this. Right.....

I started singing it to my poor husband 😂😂😂
Haha it is 2021 now and still listening
I time handwashing by singing the scrotum verse

Thay still do it's just away early in the mornings.
Ive been listening to Bob,Tom and the rest of the gang for 20+ yrs and this is 1(one) of the many favorites I have ...
I have seen them LIVE 4 times. AWESOME band...despite the changing members.
someone mentioned Scrotum today and of course I had to rewatch this classic!!!
I have personaly met this entire band, have signed records with personal messages, and have seen them countless times. I love them, they are VERY talented. The best shows I saw them perform were at "Little Brothers", in Columbus Ohio.
Didn’t know about this group until I found some Lucille Brogan vintage vids. Absolutely fabulous
How am I just now hearing them?!? Awesome! 😆
Definetly good times. Bob and Tom had some very good talent come on the show during this time period. I love it.
Hard to believe songs like this ever used to be able to played on the radio.
Yeah. We have become such a dumb politically correct society.
@@tophorable Blame the "wardrobe malfunction." That's the reason they can't play it anymore.
@tophorable "bah gawd. Jesus would be ashamed of this nonsense yer'all need tuh pray"-probably the same guy who said we're "too politically correct"

Fucking awesome!! I hope we see MANY more Spanker broadcasts from Bob and Tom!
All hail be to Austin, TX. LIVE MUSIC CAPITAL OF MUSIC. Praise to thee.
I'm surprised these aren't better archived anywhere. B&TS was my jam. Would often wake me up laughing.
Heck no man, I agree. I think she has an incredibly abrasive tone quality to her voice.
Ah, memories.
It's been 14 years since this..👍🏿

That's such a throwback to the great Canadian comedy team McClean and McClean who did that song 'Jada' as 'Fuck ya''
I love Bob and Tom,I live in Detroit..i know you feel sorry for me,but being such a big city we still do'nt get Bob and Tom..Great Vid. Thanks

Just saw them last night here in Houston at the Mucky Duck, and brought three new converts with me. Laugh and laugh and laugh
The first line of the chorus is:
"Scrotum, scrotum s-c-r-o-t-u-m,
Scrotum, scrotum It's my wrinkly, crinkly bag of skin."
That's correct say.2003 Madison Wisconsin radio broadcast

love goofy songs like this.
set your alarm clock poppa..wonder how she got that way
@NoSweatOffMySack Bob and Tom don't turn off thier microphones during guest songs because if they did, other shows would steal them.
it's The Asylum Street Spankers. Davinci Notebook doesn't use instruments just voices.
definately agree
I wonder if you could have called up your DJ and request this song..
I grew up with a guy that called scrotum a "stroatum". It was very funny. He mispronounced many words.
That guy in the cowboy reminds me of Ted Nugent.
Good old fashioned music-FIRST CLASS!
how did this clear censors?
I like the new orleans sound to it :)
