- 44 pts, 9r and 5 blocks (career high) in 48:00 minutes / 15-30 fg, 14-14 ft
Through the season’s first 44 games, Kobe was posting 29.7 ppg on 46-32-86 (%). This matchup against Charlotte was the 4th of a 6 game span in which Shaq nursed an injured foot. Kobe was therefore tasked with playing much more aggressively on offense. He proceeded to average 34p, 9r and 4a during the 6 game stretch. The Lakers went 4-2, including wins over the playoff bound Kings and Suns.
Led by 1st year Hornet & All-star level playing Jamal Mashburn, the 2000-01 Charlotte Hornets were a formidable squad. By Mashburn’s side stood a mix of both young guys - Baron Davis, Jamaal Magloire - and seasoned veterans such as PJ Brown, Elden Campbell, and Otis Thorpe. Their starting 2-guard David Wesley averaged a career best 17.2 ppg in ‘01. Charlotte had a 25-22 record heading into this Lakers contest. They concluded the season at 46-36, good for the East’s 6th seed.

And 2003, literally has no flaws to his game. 2001 was the year in my opinion where he held back nothing in his game, offense and defense. The reason people don’t talk that much about 01 kobe is mainly because in 03 and 06 he was better defending and offensively but 01 kobe was massively underrated

2000-2001 was probably my favorite season watching Kobe play. The only 1 I would possibly rank ahead of that would be 08-09 when he finally proved he could win a title w/out Shaq. I believe Kobe was coming into the beginning of his prime in this season, and the result of that was him being arguably the best individual player in basketball at 22 years old.

Another good Kobe stretch (in my opinion) is the first half of the 2007-2008 season before they got Pau. He grew as a leader and was starting to get the most of that team. I was surprised they were winning as much as they were at the time. Then Pau came in, and the rest is history.
Kobe was a monster in 02-03 with that crazy stretch of 40+ point games he went on in the 2nd half that season.
Kobe was probably the best two way player in the league that year amongst guards, as Iverson, McGrady, and Carter were not defensive players and the likes of Stackhouse, Marbury, Francis, Terry, and Van Exel were all one way gunners on mediocre teams or worse (all would be 6th man today). This year is when Kobe became a top 5 player in the league.

I watched it live... it was a great game, though I was a bit nervous as they didn't have Shaq and the Hornets were a solid team that year. Kobe posting those numbers against Baron Davis was no joke.

If kobe could of played starter minutes from day 1 and if they didn't have shaq kobe would of averaged probably like 23 points in his rookie year then around 28 per game in 97,98,99 and by 2000 he would of been putting up 33 per game. He'd probably have another 12k points easily if shaq wasn't there for his first 8 years. Obviously he wouldn't have 3 more rings though.

Was Shaquille O’Neal the best player and leader of his team, yes that was clear.
The office was still being run through him but to say that they weren’t in the same tier of talents during that season and on especially when you realize you areyou’ll be surpassed him in 2003 is an understatement to say the least.
These are one of the games you just prove it and there’s plenty more to look at the Spurs series during the season and you might just believe me
Can you bring back the video when Kobe popped off against Sacramento in the 06-07 season? It was him vs. Mike Bibby at that time and it was on TNT with Marv and Chuck calling the game.
Jesus Christ how many more scoring titles could Kobe have won if he actually tried and cared more about them? I remember his MVP year (2008) he also almost won what would've been his third scoring title in a row but Lebron beat him by a point.
There was one year he could of won it and practically gave it to Durant on the last game of the season.
