Also on cl, there was a debate about the incoming of the ev era, and some members rightfully pointed out that this would have consequences in the development of combustion engines models. Also the SUV craze going on isn't helping. You know, once upon a time, Lincoln and Cadillac used to own this space. It is difficult to fathom how Ford and GM could squander this lofty position; it was not due to a lack of engineering skill or development resources. They lost their market because they abused their customers' trust by selling them substandard products. There is only one way they can come back -- do what Lexus do -- put the customer first.
Unfortunately, it's too late; the # of customers that fit this profile is shrinking (dying off) at catastrophic rates. The "luxury" SUV is cannibalizing this market. And then the 'electric' platforms on coming, which be a huge disruption due to draconian government mandates.
That will never happen. I work in the auto industry as an industrial electrician in Detroit and the old "Big 3" are savages now with inferior everything. Squandered loyalty and everything the did.
I have 2017 chevy Silverado I lease. Good truck but after lease is up I'll purchase a two or three year old es350. The customer service at Chevy is terrible. I've called them 3 times about a recall to make an appointment and was told they would call back. Never did. My wife leases new traverse, decent suv. They put her in the wrong model, had to go back, sad to say, but our old 2000 rx300 was better quality than the 2017 traverse. Hire better people and train on customer service
Lexus LS sales decline should give you an educated guess. The icing on the cake is decreasing sales after 2018 redesign equals this is not very good today.
You're spot-on with the tedious menus in this car. I spent 10 minutes trying to find the massaging seats menu....then found the dedicated physical button for it.
An engineer at Toyota told me that next gen seats will have bottom cushions that will vacuum away flatulence and use it as fuel in Hybrid Combustion models. _The future is SOON!_
Okay but that INTERIOR. That has to be one of the best looking dashboards i have ever seen. Nothing juts out and theres not a million buttons for everything.
The thunking, rough ride and harshness over broken pavement is the tires. Switching from run-flat to regular tires takes just about all of that away. I also saw a minor (1-2mpg) increase in fuel economy after the change. The rain sensitive wipers are not sensitive enough with misting or light rain. A firmware upgrade should fix this. The climate control doesn't pump enough heat out of the face vents from a cold start. The heat is there very quickly and I can manually set it to warm the cabin, otherwise left to its own devices the car will warm the foot well while giving me a draft of coolish air out the face vents.A firmware upgrade should fix this. For such a long car the rear seats don't have near the legroom of the S or the 7, it's ok but not great. On the other hand the power seats in the rear of the new LS adjust in more directions than the equivalent seats in the S, I'm sure the mechanism and motors for this take up some number of inches. At 30,000 miles the only problem I have had so far is part of the massage on the drivers seat has an air leak. I'm hugely impressed; the first year of production of a completely new model with so much stuff going on and it all works.
@@MPower396 at 90,000 and nearly three years old now. Had to have the massage fixed three times in the driver seat and twice in the passenger. Lexus replaced the controllers the last time they fixed them and the pressure of the massage has been reduced. Both sides had the same issues return after that and I didn't bother having them fixed again. There is a known issue with the front brakes making a thunking noise when coming to a stop. The dealer never found a fix for it, I drove a 2019 which didn't do it. I assume they have a fix for it now. The brakes are generally noisy but they function just fine. Still on the original braking components all the way round, which is a nice saving. I don't believe I had to have a repair which wasn't in warranty. Service costs have been $250 to $450 for the 10k intervals, which seems more than reasonable to me. I'm not happy with the wipers, they smear water and leave lines, according to my service advisor Lexus made the "rubber" stiffer. I had a loaner with exactly the same issue. This is enough to put me off buying another LS until they fix this. The logic for both the rain sensitive wipers and the automatic high beam is sub par, I mostly operate both manually. I just purchased a BMW 750i, 523HP vs 414 for the LS, and the difference feels bigger than that. I have a 328i which doesn't feel too much slower than the LS. 750 also wins on massage, ride, seats and general cabin comfort, quietness, wipers, headlights and putting a grin on my face because it's a rocket. The iDrive in the 750 beats the pants off the touchpad in the LS, also the BMW has buttons for things. The LS has few buttons, leaving you to click click click click on the trackpad to turn on heated seats for example. LS has the looks, three years later and people are still staring at it and taking pictures. The Mark Levinson is as good as the Bowers and Wilkins and approaching half the price. The 2021 LS may close the gap, but after just four days with the 750 that gap is pretty huge.
@@Mabeylater293 The engine comes to temperature quickly and the heat is available, but the Lexus sits on it and sends some heat to the windshield, what I want is a blast of hot air into the cabin. Turn the fan up and put it out everywhere. Otherwise the "Climate Concierge" does an OK job. Not nearly as good as my previous GS350, that was flawless HVAC and enhanced the luxury, the LS is just OK.
materials quality is top notch. A naturally aspirated "5.7L V8" or a "Supercharged 5.0L V8" option would have increased the appeal of the LS 500 considering its bulk.

Oddly, I had a hard time watching the forward facing driving shots because of the reflection in that huge hood... almost vertigo inducing. I remember getting a ride In a LS400 from a business associate of my dad's around '90 - 91. The driver floored it and the impressive thing was how it accelerated with that muted NA 8. At the time, it felt very quick for a bulky sedan. The owner was so proud of his purchase and, honestly, I think of the gamble he took at buying the first luxury sedan out of Toyota. He could have picked up any German offering at the time, but the LS was something special.
Really like the interior on this one with it's integrated sweeping lines like on the inner doors etc. Thank you for the nice smooth camera work so we can actually appreciate these things, Mr. Goose!
I love this car and it’s my dream. I’m having an 05 Lexus ES and it is just a blessing to drive. Smooth, comfortable and quite. Such a reliable car from time to time. I would love to be able to buy an LS one day. I really hope that Lexus will bring back their V8 instead of the V6 with 2 turbos.
The Twin Turbo V6 is a gem! I'm so jelly of your time with the Hybrid. One day I'll get to drive and review the hybrid...until then, I'm happy to be able to get into the normal LS 500 whenever I get a chance!
You do such a great job reviewing cars. It is a shame only 200k subscribers know this, and that most manufactures are afraid of an honest review. It is nice to see a serious review, of a few people, with great humor, who do not speak endlessly about "quirks and features" for 20 minutes. Something to actually help me choose a new car, and if I should lease or buy!
5.0 L V8, that’s what I wish was in it. I love this car. I have an LS460 with the 4.6 L V8. I’ve seen so many of these in person. I’ve sat in several too because I go to a million different Lexus dealers lol. The freaking interior is insane. Literally the best ever. Lexus of Escondido has a ton of these. And even an LFA. Lexus of wood, and Hills has an LFA as well.

It’s the run flat tires ☹️ .....at 7000 miles I took the runflat tires off of my LS 500. Taking the tires off made a world of difference on how my car drove.

In one week of owning this car I am surprised how easy the infotainment system is and shocked that all these people who present this car act as though it is not!
Did a video of this car. When Lexus was hosting a event on chicago during the summer. The twin turbo was pretty good. Defiantly a ton of turbo lag. But once it gets going it moves.
Owning a 2004 Lexus LS430, I think LS must always have a V8 power engine. I wish they would have opted for a small block V8 instead of V6. And yes … my 15 year old LS430 is as good as ever, so I have no plans to get a new one soon. This is what Lexus does the best that no one else can do.
I'm amazed that there hasn't been some sort of collaboration between a mobile phone manufacturer, these people have a lot of practice with this. It's no surprise that car manufacturers suck at creating touch screen UI, it has little to nothing to do with car manufacturing, until now. I do love the gauge cluster though.
It already has been confirmed a LS-F will be release, with a V8 (maybe Twin Turbos). So no need to complain for people missing the V8. The LS500 was supposed to be a Twin Turbos V6 Hybrid. But Lexus as said to put it out in 2019/2020. So wait & see !
Excellent review! Honest, clear and to the point! So good!! We need a full review on this car! F-Sport too! Tell us your thoughts on the LS moving from a traditional luxury sedan in the 4th gen to a front mid-engined platform for the 5th gen!
I drove the Executive model for a day. And you are 1000% correct with everything. Exactly how i felt about the LS. Only think I was hoping it to be more “Grand” with the interior. But i guess they win you over with its simplicity. Surprisingly, there was a bit too much road noise for my liking. I was hoping to fall asleep. I didnt drive the Hybrid. But it would be the one Id get. Too bad Lexus loves to make you buy predestined models and options. I wished they made a hybrid F sport.
Regarding the sound... I wish they used a similar approach that they have used in the IS 350, GS 350, etc. and of course now the LC 500. The LC has "enhanced" engine noise that isn't digital and sounds very, VERY good.
If Lexus had a wider range of vehicles here in Sweden (like the stronger V6) I would probably own one right now instead of an inline 6 BMW. Sadly, we only have the small V6 and hybrids here...
Very good review. I am concerned that Lexus has gone towards designing sporty riding cars and introducing fake sounds in a supposedly extremely quiet cabin. What are they thinking? The only, but only reason I bought Lexus in the past is due to it smoothest, quietest ride ever. I basically do not want to feel the road, or feel any vibrations; Lexus was great at that ..... before.
Buttons and knobs are way better than screens for efficiency. At least it still has a traditional shift lever instead of buttons (probably cheaper to produce) that I have to look down instead of shift by feel.
Ah, a little mini goose to start a joyous December morning. I've grown to value your opinion a tremendous amount. Thank you for not giving automakers habitual reacharounds and ear licks.
@@losmosquitos1108 According to sales, the market puts only the s-class above the LS. The 7 series and a8 are far far far behind Lexus and Mercedes in terms of interior design and quality. The 2019 A8 is a huge step up, but BMW looks like it's stuck in 2010.
Matt Farah recently posted videos on the new ES and this LS and was much more thrilled about driving the ES than the LS. Might want to test drive both cars if you can really afford the LS and decide from there.
It does look gorgeous though. Ya its 100k but I tend to agree with savagegeese and there are alot of subtle details that makes it an impressive oem build
@@weedmastersr eCVT is a true CVT. Too bad they programmed it to simulate a regular boring 10 gear automatic. But that's what they have to do, becouse stupid people hate that there is no "shift feeling" as it never really shifts gears.
I'm actually wondering now that Lexus has trademarked a Lexus IS500 if that will actually have this TT V6 because if they were gonna put the 2UR-GSE V8 from the RC F, GS F, and LC500, wouldn't it just be called the IS F? Then again, the LC500 is just called the LC500, so who knows. I'd be happy just to have a higher performance version of the IS, but man oh man would I love to see that thing with a V8 again.

They have never owned this space and never will.
You're spot-on with the tedious menus in this car. I spent 10 minutes trying to find the massaging seats menu....then found the dedicated physical button for it.
Have you heard of voice control?
@@Zettel9016 Or few seconds if you let the guy from Lexus to explain and show you how it works !
Love the leather in the gauge cluster
"Straight up pimp machine" damn now I am sold.
An engineer at Toyota told me that next gen seats will have bottom cushions that will vacuum away flatulence and use it as fuel in Hybrid Combustion models. _The future is SOON!_
Stock up on beans!
Yep, and instead of fueling the car you have to eat onions with beans and cabbage in garlic sauce. It gives you 1.4 miles per meal...
😂😂😂😂

Glad to see that the issue was due to run flat tires. What did you replace them with? Pirelli cinturato p7 plus?
So the heat warms quickly in the winter? How long does it take?
how many miles do you have now any other reliability/maintenance issues?
Yep, so right! And no cvt transmission pleeaaase... :)
@Elon Blunt don't really care about mpg. I simply dislike these kind of transmissions. Imagine my AMG with a CVT. AARRRGGGHHHH....:)

Every car does not have this, no. Hence the first comment. Dipsticks are going away quickly (the majority doesn't know where to find it, what it is or how to effing use it)
@Elon Blunt but not every modern luxury car has it (I am looking at you BMW)
Oddly, I had a hard time watching the forward facing driving shots because of the reflection in that huge hood... almost vertigo inducing.
I remember getting a ride In a LS400 from a business associate of my dad's around '90 - 91. The driver floored it and the impressive thing was how it accelerated with that muted NA 8. At the time, it felt very quick for a bulky sedan. The owner was so proud of his purchase and, honestly, I think of the gamble he took at buying the first luxury sedan out of Toyota. He could have picked up any German offering at the time, but the LS was something special.
Proud owner of 2016 LS460 here. I love the car... my only problem is, it will be at least 10 years to need a new car. :/
3:30 this part of the review is enough reason to buy a LS for me :)

Really like the interior on this one with it's integrated sweeping lines like on the inner doors etc. Thank you for the nice smooth camera work so we can actually appreciate these things, Mr. Goose!
Return the V8 for this huge palace 🐳
I love this car and it’s my dream. I’m having an 05 Lexus ES and it is just a blessing to drive. Smooth, comfortable and quite. Such a reliable car from time to time. I would love to be able to buy an LS one day. I really hope that Lexus will bring back their V8 instead of the V6 with 2 turbos.
The consensus is that you have the greatest generation of the LS ever made.
Jeeze the craftsmanship on Lexus vehicles has always been so good.
10 year old LS460 here, 155k miles, with 50k miles driving uber in bad city roads, zero problems.
I drive a Maybach 57s with the V12 6.0 liter engine. Truly, even in 2024, this Lexus LS 500 is next level ❤.
Another awesome review, love it, wish it was a longer review though.
The Twin Turbo V6 is a gem! I'm so jelly of your time with the Hybrid. One day I'll get to drive and review the hybrid...until then, I'm happy to be able to get into the normal LS 500 whenever I get a chance!

first time watching this guy's review.. wow i'm a fan. STRAIGHT UP PIMP MACHINE.. i'm sold.
That comment about being a low stress environment really made sense to me when I heard it. Great review.
“It is a straight up Pimp Machine” - savagageese. Can’t wait to see that on official Lexus advertisements next to Motortrend and Car & Driver quotes.
The interior door panels really sold me, damn that’s actually pretty nice
You do such a great job reviewing cars. It is a shame only 200k subscribers know this, and that most manufactures are afraid of an honest review. It is nice to see a serious review, of a few people, with great humor, who do not speak endlessly about "quirks and features" for 20 minutes. Something to actually help me choose a new car, and if I should lease or buy!
Love the demonstration of the drive modes at 7:50...you have such a cool, understated way of shooting videos.
the car that you can never go wrong
There's nothing wrong with understated. I honestly prefer my vehicles to not grab the attention of others.
I can't believe how good this review was. This had to be your best yet.
I need my comfort zone to watch this, finally something exciting and educative
They have a mirror for the back seat passengers to....fix their hair...lol nice touch at 3:30
Richard Burton Pretty much. They’ve had that mirror at least since the ‘05 model
It’s November 2022. And I STILL want this car. Only thing I’d do is swap out the tires.
This reviewer is just being honest and practical about the car. Seems everyone is dumping on him for speaking the truth! I like this guy. He is my kind of person. Brutally honest! I love it Superb review!
Shots and music are poetic, very artistic.
It’s the run flat tires ☹️ .....at 7000 miles I took the runflat tires off of my LS 500. Taking the tires off made a world of difference on how my car drove.
Buy high quality summer tires like Michelin Pilot Sport Cup or for more refined, all season driving the new Continental PureContact LS.
Recently found your channel and what a find. Really enjoy your videos. Mostly enjoy the variety of cars you cover. I'm from south africa and many cars you review we get here to.
Thanks for great reviews.
Great review. Thank you.
George costanza sure knows his cars
Owning a 2004 Lexus LS430, I think LS must always have a V8 power engine. I wish they would have opted for a small block V8 instead of V6. And yes … my 15 year old LS430 is as good as ever, so I have no plans to get a new one soon. This is what Lexus does the best that no one else can do.
"Straight up pimp machine."
Ok, that's it. I'm emptying my bank account and putting a deposit down on this. All $50 lol.
Pimps are disgusting pieces of filth that ruin society.
This car looks so beautiful
LC 500 looks even more so

It's nice indeed
I think this car is one of the best looking vehicles on the road, period. It is so striking in person...such a sleek long thing
You definitely right... I'm myself filming this Lexus and very soon publishing the video
Thank you for the great review as always.
If I was looking for the car in that segment I would get this in a heartbeat.
Where was that confirmed?
Thanks man. Car Reviewers now that's how you make a review like this guy.
Excellent review! Honest, clear and to the point! So good!! We need a full review on this car! F-Sport too! Tell us your thoughts on the LS moving from a traditional luxury sedan in the 4th gen to a front mid-engined platform for the 5th gen!
I saw this car at Malibu. I thought to myself "one day". Such a beautiful car.
I hate going through screens and menus to accomplish a task that should be done with a knob.
I realize why I like his reviews, he is educated and intelligent. There is so much garbage out there devoid of thought.
Great review. Always loved the Ls runs forever & previous owners rarely sell them
Great video. I wish it was longer. 😎
Why have info screen mouse control or even buttons for the comfort features? Voice control: "Massage, lower back, medium, 10 minutes."
I agree with you on the suspension. My 07 LS rides the same way. Tires can make a difference but does not solve it.
Epic videography!
Very good, honest review with strong suggestions Lexus should follow through on. Thank you
Very good review.
I am concerned that Lexus has gone towards designing sporty riding cars and introducing fake sounds in a supposedly extremely quiet cabin. What are they thinking? The only, but only reason I bought Lexus in the past is due to it smoothest, quietest ride ever. I basically do not want to feel the road, or feel any vibrations; Lexus was great at that ..... before.
No such thing as “sporty riding”. Call it what it is, a worse ride, a harder ride, not a smooth ride.
LS500 really is better than all german rivals imo.
O but you are so wrong, hahaha!!
@@losmosquitos1108 According to sales, the market puts only the s-class above the LS. The 7 series and a8 are far far far behind Lexus and Mercedes in terms of interior design and quality. The 2019 A8 is a huge step up, but BMW looks like it's stuck in 2010.
I really enjoy your content. Camera work is beautiful, information accurate, honest feelings & opinion. This Lexus is something else wha?
This is one of the most amazing 4 door sedans today... it is beautiful, maybe one day I can afford new cars
Matt Farah recently posted videos on the new ES and this LS and was much more thrilled about driving the ES than the LS. Might want to test drive both cars if you can really afford the LS and decide from there.

I just want to know why it's called the LS "500" when it's only a V6. Kinda misleading if you ask me. Should be called the LS350T instead.
The best car vlog ever you are a star full stop. 👌
Fingers crossed for the V8!!
