I didn't realize this video would be so controversial. I was proud of this one and thought it would be helpful. But there's a handful of you posting nasty stuff and questioning my credibility. For you, I've created a follow up video: ruclips.net/video/ux6PKgtgNV0/видео.html Hopefully it helps you understand how I operate. For everyone else, thanks for watching.
I just wanted to write this to support you here, there is absolutely no need for individuals to be nasty or question your credibility. Keyboard warriors should take a breath and understand that these videos are posted trying to be helpful and not to incite online abuse. Opinions are subjective and it doesn't mean that what you feel is incorrect or irrelevant. Keep up the good work!!
Great work, ignore the haters😉. Honest reviews and comparisons are hard to find so please keep up the work. In my opinion you couldn't have been interpreted as anything other than informative!
Btw. Thanks for opening your eyes that there are quality and affordable things. And both sides will always have their customers. We must not forget that there will always be people in the world who are dissatisfied and malicious, no matter how personally you strive to be objective and fair. It's in their nature, and now, through comments, they have the opportunity to express their personal frustrations. The skill is to simply ignore them.
Don't listen to the haters, Dave. We asked for a comparison when you posted the T-rex 3 review, so thank you for making it. Most of us appreciate it, the haters are a minority.
As a consumer perspective, the video should be TREX3 vs forerunner 165 as they share the same price point. The fact that we can even compare it to the fenix is crazy
Man, the old boys on the Amazfit subreddit are going to be all over this. Hey man, thank you for covering this brand. Nobody else does. I had to decide to go with either a T-Rex 3 or an Enduro 3 and I ended up with the Garmin, but I'll probably pick up a T-Rex 3 probably around Black Friday or something. Very interesting devices that Amazfit are putting out these days.
@@ChaseTheSummitthanks for covering it, this will ring more than a bell into Garmin offices. Fenix 8 is under my radar exclusively for the phone assistant integration, I would keep my epix pro.. I don’t like the T rex aesthetics but mostly I’m feeling isn’t reliable enough for following and tracking a 8 hours mtb ride 😅
This is a great comparison. If you can afford Garmin, go for it, but for the rest of us that can't spend that much, the T-Rex 3 is great. I;ve been testing it and it meets all my needs. I've had a Garmin Fenix watch as well and love it too. It basically comes down to what features you NEED and what you can afford.
Very true. Just like buying a car where mileage may vary 😊

Garmin has a much more cheaper models than brand new Fénix 8 line (or T-Rex 3), for true runners (or sport beginners). And these models give him good metrics and tons of data for analysis. FR255 which is now on sale, FR165 for beginners or Instinct 2X Solar, which is de facto Fénix 7X Solar without maps, but awith almost all other F7X features. My comment is not about hating Amazfit or Garmin, I very love Amazfit devices and has many of them in my collection and I have also some cheaper models from Garmin and I think, for true sportsmen is Garmin better option.
Garmin fanboys are hurt, returning my Fr 965 and getting a T-REX 3. It was such a fair comparison. I don't what complaining about. I didn't event know Amazfit existed before your first T-REX 3 video. Thanks for posting amazing content. Cheers!
@@mohitgupta2769 well, if we comparing the normal thing that other watch bring like health index..any smart watch / fitness watch is already at a stage on par with each other. in fact, apple watch offer the best data more than garmin. in term of durability, there already a video that amazfit t rex previous version could not deliver their promise. hope t rex 3 is better i think the value for garmin / coros is in this 4 aspect: 1) connect to physical equipment for accurate data using ANT 2) very accurate offline map 3) very in depth training data with help you improve your overall training. 4) 3rd party apps. this one, zapp definitely far behind garmin. Garmin itself is far from apple store/play store this is just my insight after using many brand. in the end, best to use is apple or samsung watch in daily use. Garmin amazfit for outdoor user. @@aaaaooooiihow so? I had a Trex 2 and had zero issues with it. I beat that thing to the ground. Sold it for a new Apple Watch and instantly regretted it.
@@JsDiesel7 Not sure if you meant it for me, but I haven't received the watch yet. It's arriving tomorrow in the mail. I have the Amazfit GTR 4, but wanted something more capable for physical activities. But for someone like myself that walks a lot, lifts weights semi-regularly, and skydives recreationally, the GTR 4 was and still is great. The T-Rex 3 is a big enough improvement from the GTR 4 for me to buy it. For me, 90% of the advantages Dave mentioned for the Garmin is not a deal breaker and doesn't justify spending $800 extra. For my purposes and price point, the T-Rex 3 is worth it.

Garmins are Garmins they in their league and once you buy one it will be a while for you to buy another one.. I know a guy that has had his for 8 years still loves the watch... I guess to each his own... Am more of an adventure person and wouldnt want to risk sractching etc all the other little bits that this clip is depicting.. Basically Value for the money
I'm thinking at an 800+ price difference I can stomach the described Amazfit shortcomings.😏 Maybe if I was a HUGE diver it would not be a comparison. But, as an avid outdoorsman I have been very happy with the T-Rex 2 for over two years. The T-Rex 3 sounds like a good upgrade!😉
I currently have the 51 F8 AMOLED, just bought the T. rex last week to compare. I think your review is spot on. I’ll stick with my Fenix hands down. Sorry about all the complaints on this video. I wouldn’t give them the time of day with any response. Your analysis is objective and fair. Keep it up!
Thanks! Yeah, the negative comments are strange on these recent videos. I can't tell if it's just the nature of getting more views and exposure... or something... else? In either case both watches are pretty amazing it really boils down to YOUR needs.
The first thing i see is the (in my opinion) bad design of the T-REX 3. Functions are ok, but hell this watch looks ugly. I still prefer the looks of my garmin.
@@frankstefan3201I do agree. However they had issues with HR and GPS which got sorted. Maybe design is next (that and Vo2 max because I had the Trex 2 and it was low on that too)?
T-rex has a lot more apps you can add. Looks like a good sensor. I got mine $250 shipped. $250 for a watch with maps... Where else can you get that? Garmin priced themselves out of the market.
Thanks for the comparison. In your previous video I did like the GPS accuracy and HR accuracy where the Amazfit (finally) shines. For a casual active guy like me the only criteria against a device like these ones are 'be accurate'. Be accurate so that I can make decisions after evaluating the data collected.
As a longtime runner/hiker, I prefer fewer smart watch features plus things like sleep tracking and body battery are still quite gimmicky. After a while, you just want to go out there and run/hike with enough battery to complete your run. I'm ditching my old fenix and giving amazfit a shot. Thanks for the comparison.
Hie guys, I finally bought the T-Rex 3 and it's awesome! Taken it for two very long walks, tracked my sleep and it's been a very painless move from the garmin echo system. Absolutely love it!
The lag is likely due to a slower processor...that's how Garmin's battery life is so amazing compared to an Apple Watch, Pixel, or Samsung...those batteries only last a couple days due to their higher clock speeds and therefore higher battery demands.
Fantastic video as always. It was a fair comparison, and if I weren't such a fan of Garmin, I might give the T-Rex a try. I was on the fence about upgrading from the Fenix 6, but your initial review of the Fenix 8 convinced me to go for it. I'm very happy with it so far, and I know it's going to last me for years. Thanks for doing what you do, keep up the great work.
If you are a regular person, you do a little biking, little hiking and running, T-Tex would be enough for you. If you are a serious athlete, you buy Garmin. Most of the people wouldn't use even 10% of Garmin's features.
The T-Rex 3 sounds like a serious contender given the price difference. I've already ordered my Fenix 8, but I'll be keeping an eye on future models of the T-Rex in the future. I do love my Garmin's, but I gotta keep an open mind.
IIRC the laggy interface saves a lot of battery. The Fenix 8 would probably just have a week of battery compared to 22 days in smartwatch mode. But yeah, this should be an option in the options. And I fully agree that the prices for this watch is monumental.
@@kasperl2009 I would happily prefer snappy interface, rather than the heart-rate sensor taking a reading every second while not in activity. Never understood why would I need such detailed info while I'm not doing anything.
Why is everyone hating on this video? This video was very helpful in deciding whether i need the extra features of garmin or if the amazfit was enough. Thanks for the video man
I ordered the Trex. It's my first smartwatch. I would like the Garmin, as it is legitimately a better tool. But, not spending $1000+ just to see if I like wearing a smartwatch.
the worst thing for haters is to NOT hate them ;D I personally really appreciate that you actually give your own opinion on the products and at the same time you share all the information and your own thoughts and experience with this kind of products . People are just poor human beings sometimes ;) cheers!
My guess is that some folks who spent 1000 on a new Fenix 8 are upset that their new baby is being compared to a 270 watch, well it's a lot of cash and exactly why i went for an Epix 2 Pro and it's awesome. But there's never an excuse to be rude. Love your work, just keep on rolling and don't let the few nutjobs get you down man, and good on you for making the follow up video too. Onwards and Upwards :)
The Garmin damn well better have some advantages for 4X the cost. I thought your original review was just fine. Someone like me just wants to see how it stacks up in the important things like display, battery life, HR, GPS. I don't care about most of the advantages of the Garmin because it isn't even in the running for me at that price point.

I for one love that a more in depth look was necessary between this latest "cheap" Amazfit option and the much more expensive Garmin. I have loved my Garmin watches but I've also never paid retail for them - FB Marketplace only. For so many comparable features on the Amazfit and to offer it brand new for under $300.... That is just a killer move on their part! Thanks for putting this together!
Negative goofballs aside, appreciate the direct comparison videos! Your review is quite objective and gives someone the knowledge they need to make an informed choice. FWIW, I have a fraction of your subs and views, still get weird negative comments. That is just RUclips.
I signed up for Amazfit newsletters for 10% discount. So I ordered my Amazfit T-rex 3 even cheaper than 280 USD. Garmin with that price range was never an option for me. Thanks for the content.
@@Buenossss You should learn more about China and get out of your American propaganda. You would be very surprised about China and what they are capable of. Today's China is no longer the China of the 70s. Grow up a little, boy! You are behind
I like the fact that you test and compare all watches of the market. Never felt that you were trying to sell any of them. Always great reviews and honest point of view. You have me watching all your videos for years. Big fan here! Anyone who pays a 1.000usd for a fenix don't wanna hear that a 4x less expensive watch can do the same job. This is where the angry coments comes from😂. But not everybody is a professional athlete who needs all the calculations and kpis that Fenix has.
Thanks for the additional info, very interesting. After watching this vid, I'll be buying the T-Rex 3. The only activity I do is running, so accurate gps, connection to my HR chest strap, good battery life, basic mapping, and the amoled display is all I need. Never been sold on the sleep tracking and other features that seem to fill gps watches. Once I finish a run, the watch comes off and left until I need it again. Sad to be leaving Polar, but the T-Rex 3 seems to be the perfect watch for me.
@@lhzsdgsfbvv Yes, it's a great watch the 965, but my brother and myself are looking into some ultra trail runs. Viewing the spec, the 965 battery life could be borderline, but thanks for the alternative suggestion. I'll keep it in mind, as I'm still trying to find out if the activity screens on the T-Rex 3 are customisable.
You should also check out the Amazfit Balance, I think the TREX3 is just a Balance in a sturdier case and a bigger screen (and maybe a new CPU). I believe they use the same HR and GPS sensors. I have the Balance and love it, I also run and compared the HR sensor to a chest strap and the results are pretty much identical, like in the original TREX3 review, I honestly see no reason to use a chest strap together with the watch.
@@rumichael Thanks that great news about the HR. I have ordered the TRex3, but have now discovered that the HR zones aren't fully customisable. I'll mainly be using my Stryd Pod for training data. It records everything, even when not connected to a watch. The TRex3 is more for the battery life, great gps and maps. The Zepp softwae will take some getting used to, as it's lacking in areas compared to Polar Flow. But hell, I've just saved £400 by not buying the GritX2 Pro, so I'll take a few compromises.
Good stuff 👍 After reading some of the comments before watching, I was a bit worried - but after seeing the full comparison I think it was a good and fair one. Obviously the Garmin should be a better watch, but it is not by that far, and some categories (screen size, brightness) its even the T-Rex that has the upper hand. 90% of the watch at less than 30% of the price.
The crazy thing is the average person with this economy spending close to 1k+ its a luxury. I appreciate the underdog vastly the average person doesn’t squeeze the all the potential of these watches I’ll buy the t-rex.
Dave, I don't know what people are whining about. I watched this one only after seeing your "explanation video". I feel that this was very objective and unbiased. You are just presenting the facts.
If I’m in the market to buy a smartwatch, I would probably get the T-Rex3 based on price and feature ratio. Very thorough comparison video and super helpful when making purchase decision.
I found your review helpful and honest. I was worried about the low winter type sun I encounter. And the Garmin 965 has problems with that. I was looking at Garmin since they at least support their watches unlike my Polar with the v800. Any faults you mentioned were not important to me. I bought the T Rex 3, updated it and pair to a Polar h10 chest strap. The Zepp app works well enough on my iphone 15 pro and I link it to Apple health. It works very well for less than a Garmin 255 on Amazon in England. Thank you for constructive and down to earth review. Ignore the haters and just keep being true to yourself.
I was about to order Fenix 8 but this Amazfit came out It looks too good to be true , EVEN BETTER than Fenix 8 in the most important matters : - better bigger 1 5" display, - brighter 2000 nits display - smoother experience, - better battery - and most of all 1/4 the price Battery, display, smoothness and especially PRICE are the most important fir 90% of users. 90% of us never use the extra features that Garmin has over T Rex 3
If these are the most important matters to you, maybe you looking for a smartwatch and not a sportwatch, just go for an applewatch or samsung ultra. Garmin have better sensors, better health metrics, better precision and accuracy, 1month battery in the 51mm, better maps, you can point the map and make a route instantly cmon... xD Amazfit is a great watch but not even close to the garmin in sport and health terms
Absolutely, like you said: top elite athletes and dedicated to sport people will go for Garmin for it's ecosystem anyway. For majority though Trex3 will be 100% sufficient.
Same. In fact the F8 price put me off from the beginning. I thought to upgrade to the Epix pro instead, but that's still 730EUR at the best discounted shop in EU for a one year old watch. And then came the T-Rex3 for 270EUR with their 10% off on their website...
You didn’t have to make this video, but in doing so, it shows you listen and care about what your audience thinks. Thank you for making a comparison video to help people understand the differences between these two watches! Appreciate all your time and effort you put into these comparisons and reviews!
@@ChaseTheSummitBTW will you be getting a fenix 8 solar? I’m interested in Enduro 3, but not sure about size. I wouldn’t mind the fenix 8, but I want a little better battery life so the solar is where I’ve landed.
@@Mdogbrown maybe. It's an expensive watch and I already have the Enduro 3 which is almost the same thing. We'll see how much interest ya'll have and that will drive whether or not I open my wallet lol.
Some of these comments are ridiculous. It seems like tech reviewers often can't win. It's like on other tech channels when they post a positive review of an iPhone they get called an Apple fan boy and then they post a positive review of a Galaxy product and they get called a Samsung fan boy. Sometimes a product really is just great.
Garmin is taking us for granted. I am glad that T-Rex is making an excellent alternative. I don’t plan to buy a Garmin watch anymore. Sorry Garmin, you lost many of your customers with your greed.
Don't think you should take haters comments top seriously. Your review at the end backed by undeniable specs which you help to introduce in details. Yaay 🎉🎉 thanks for your thoughts. Highly appreciate it when you compare heart rate monitors and gps accuracy. These are the most important features to me:)
I have been using Amazfit watches since 2019, with every new release, they are closing the gap between their products and the top player like Garmin. The Trex 3 is a very capable watch and reasonable priced. I am gonna say the competition is like between GoPro and DJI.

Amazfit are complete garbage. They are not coming close to the major players yet. They always come in at the bottom of the lists for accuracy. The last one, balance, was better than the rest but was still junk. HR sucked, sleep tracking was crap. We'll see how this new one is... still not a lot of hope for them. Just cheap junk. Like I said, go check out the quantified scientist. He shows you the charts. Amazfit is at the very bottom for accuracy.
Great video. Bought the T-Rex 3 after my Apple Watch sputtered out last week. No regrets, so far so good. The only thing I miss is ECG sensor but small compromise
Hm, I see some comments related that Garmin paid you. Maybe I little naive, but till I saw that kind of comments I didn't see that). From my point of view, you've just added some arguments, why, maybe Garmin will be suitable for someone. As for me, the video was helpful to understand that I still want T-Rex (I have T-Rex, I think to update them) and I don't want to spend additional 800$ to buy Garmin, but still see some points why they can be useful for some people, but again not for me. The previous video was excellent and combined with this one it just do it better. Keep doing your excellent work, thank you!
If he did, it would cause more of an uproar as its closer to the Fenix 8 than the forerunner which can't even be used for proper hikes. Maybe the Coros Apex 2 Pro, now that's.
@@mrbyam64 actually if we compare the support apps, zapp is very far behind. imo, if we include both hardware (watch) and the software, than both are justify with their price range
Wreszcie trafiłem na kanał który mówi o audio w tych zegarkach , ale nie mówi jak działają i czy daleko sięgają z sygnałem. Moim zdaniem jeszcze tu wrócę do recenzji osobnych tych zegarków .
I come from an Amazfit Stratos 3, bought in... I don't remember, 2021 ? I wanted to go for a Suunto Race S, I was so sure that was my next watch, and then they dropped this T-Rex 3, seemingly out of nowhere. While I'm not an Amazfit fanboy (at all, mind you), this seemed like... such a good value for the buck, hot dayum. I just couldn't pass.
One thing that you didn’t mention is the underpowered multi-generational internal processor on the Garmin (which is why moving around a map is really slow) and the really buggy software. The reviewers who have done reviews with lots of real world hands on time mentioned this…
I mention that in the in-depth review of the T-Rex 3. And I also show side by side comparisons of how maps are rendered on both devices. Keep in mind the map on Garmin watches feature A LOT more data (POI, Routeable, Labels, Shaded relief, etc...) which I assume makes them render slower. The T-Rex 3 maps render beautifully which is really nice but hard to say it's an apples to apples comparison. I do appreciate how the T-Rex 3 renders the UI and has almost no lag... and I do mention that here as well. Thanks for tuning in!
Trex3 feels like a fresh breath of air in the design area. Love the rugged but classy look, would look mad cool with a leather strap drinking ipas with the ladies.
I think if Garmin put more effort into releasing an armband tracker (whoop) or a ring tracker rather than an overpriced upgrade of the Fenix 7 series, they would see more sales. The ecosystem is awesome, but is stuck in 2015 compared to whoop regarding the app and insights. For example the whoop journal on garmin would be a game changer!
Why is everyone trying to read between the lines here? In the morning to deny the moon landing and in the afternoon to accuse small tech RUclipsrs of being manipulated by large tech companies because they upload a second review. Chill out
Thank you for this review, Dave! The Amazfit T-Rex 3 is a perfect budget adventure watch doing a lot of things for such a low price tag that would thoroughly fulfill 90% of the users out there. For the beginners, or just time to time adventurers it's a very compelling price and watch :D Amzfit played a very intelligent card here! Kudos to them. I've updated my Garmin Fenix 6X Pro Solar with the Enduro 3, 2 days before this review of the Amazfit T-Rex 3 you've uploaded ast Friday. I wouldn't have gone for the T-Rex 3 anyway because I was already planning to wait for the late August Garmin last releases to update but I find it quite clever form Amzfit to offer a very solid option! :D Kindest regards from Brussels, Belgium
I am a Fenix 7 solar owner and I think that T-Rex 3 is amazing. I will not buy it because of a few things (I don't like the case shape, the menu and Zepp app), but that doesn't mean It's bad or even mediocre. Some people will always give brand name or country of origin much more value than they're actually worth. I will not buy Fenix 8 either, but if tomorrow I had to buy one of the two, I would most probably go for the T-Rex 3, Garmin has gone too far with their pricing.
I have to tell you ,I love your vids. Coming from India where the fenix 7 costs more rhan an iphone the price for the 8 is going to be astronomical. I love that the t-rex3 offers so much for a bargain price. Whenever I've wanted to buy a fitness watch for me theres only the big three....DC Raimaker, Desfit and chase the summit. Keep doing what you guys do cos it matters to folks like us who really want to be sure about where they're sinking their money and what they get for it.
Nice comparison. In my opinion, if you're already big into Garmin, there are very few reasons to upgrade to the Fenix 8. I guess if you dive, maybe? Garmin should have released a cellular capable device, especially for the price. The T-Rex 3 is much more appealing, but I personally value accuracy in health metrics over battery life, so I'm just going to stick with Apple Watch for now. Appreciate the more in depth comparison. T-Rex 3 seems to be a much better value proposition than the Fenix 8, so I understand your enthusiasm.
I understand your stand on accuracy. For gps and heart-rate I'm with you on that. But for Vo2 score etc, as long as it's records consistantly, it's just a number (unique to you) that goes up or down. That figure still tells you if you're gaining or losing performance fitness.
@@groundsheetYeah, I mainly watch RHR, HRV trend and sleep cycles to monitor my training readiness/overall health. VO2 Max is always an estimate, although I don't see a huge variation from Garmin to Google to Apple. Most of them estimate 50, within 5 points for my VO2 Max which is close enough to each other. I personally don't really find estimated VO2 Max to be a useful metric for health tracking... it went down slightly for a good 6-8 weeks after I had Covid. My RHR also went up slightly, but more importantly my active HR was higher for the same amount of cardiovascular effort. Just seeing the blunders that other Amazfit devices make trying to estimate/measure blood pressure, and the 5 second HR measurement interval, I'm a bit skeptical.
This video is not controversial. The people complaining are morons. I think I still prefer the TRex, but it's good to know the difference. I enjoy the videos and thank you for putting in the time.
Could you also discuss the accompanying software App for both as it is also a significant feature for both those 2 watches, and I think that Garmin would have the edge here.
Sapphire Glass, Music streaming services, Speaker AND Microphone, Wellness data (body battery and sleep), built in flashlight... But yeah, if those are not important to you the maps as well.
Hi Chase, greay comp video, just subscribed after lurking for a few months 😅 im curious why you compare Amazfit Readiness to Garmin Body Battery instead of to Garmin's training readiness? The latter seems much more analogous since it takes sleep history, recovery time, stress history, etc into account (body battery is purely stress related)
Oddly enough Garmin pay saved me at a half marathon I was able to pick up some gels at the last minute because I didn’t have my cards on me.❤Garmin after that.
Thanks for this video, I've been seriously considering the T-Rex 3 since watching your initial review and this goes into some important details that weren't there. The Health/Wellness metrics in particular are interesting as I've found the body battery and sleep scores from Garmin to accurately reflect how I feel. The note about the 1s vs 5 minute HR monitoring is also critical as that obviously makes a huge difference in battery life and might compromise HR based health metrics. I'm also concerned about data privacy where I trust Garmin quite a bit more than Zepp. Also longevity in terms of updates and support is important, my Fenix 6 lasted nearly 5 years before it was lost/stolen and honestly I would have kept it going for another year or two at least. I was still getting firmware updates from Garmin 4 years after the watch was released. I'm still undecided, it's really tempting to at least give Amazfit a try within the Amazon return window. The watch I really want is the Fenix 8 Solar, but $1100 is crazy. The Enduro 3 is almost perfect but I have 165mm wrists, so the question really becomes whether I have the patience to wait for a 7 Pro deal while I live with a refurbished Venu 2 Plus that's missing some features I was using regularly (power meter, AXS support).
holy sht..u made it happen! thanks for the review..i own a fenix 6 pro and its time for an upgrade. I’ve seen this amazfit came out of nowhere when they sign hyrox elite athletes..never heard of them and the reviews isnt grear either but the price point is wayyyyyyy too good to be true..I’m in the fence of going cheap vs the pinnacle of all elites garmin..cant pull the plug.. my fenix 6pro is beat up and been into battle with me..never failed me until recently when i did my 100milers..died the fck out on me. Lol…thats when I knew its time for an upgrade
That's about two third the price of the watchitself. You'd better off buying the watch again if you get scratches (which is unlikely unless you bang it hard).
If you are constrained by budget then the decision is a no brainer 80% of the functionality for 1/4 price. If you are a serious (multi-sport?) athelete and/or heavily bought into the garmin ecosystem, want lots of cross device integration and want a refined watch (interface, app design, physical materials etc) then Garmin - the performance of the display is a little poor though for 1k+. I have had many high-end watches and in the end I end up using a fraction of the functionality and the device is superseded every couple years with the latest version, so they have proven to be a huge waste of money. For me as an all year round hiker, the Amazfit is a great proposition: wide temperature operating window, very good battery life, reasonable maps (and I load the route before I leave), enough integration to analyse performance and sturdy enough to last until the next one... I do not care about payment methods, music integration, assistant integration.... as I have always carry my phone with me. If these were both LTE enabled (like Samsung/Apple Ultra) then maybe as I would not need my phone. I have ordered the trex it will be interesting to see how it performs.
Something that is never talked about in these types of comparisons is Garmin's database, which is really the company's greatest value, a truly sports-oriented watch is not just about sensors and specifications, anyone can do that (Apple, Samsung...), the most important thing is the treatment of the data, comparing your data with a database to give you the most specific and concrete information possible about your physical form and your state to compete, and that's something that only companies that have been in the sports watch business for many years can do. Garmin has been collecting millions of data from professionals and all types of athletes for many years to offer a huge database which to contrast your physical metrics and this is a value priceless. For this reason an athlete who takes his performance seriously would never buy an a T-Rex (or any other non-sports watch brand) Greetings
Is available always on display in both watches on navigation? The wrist gesture to turn on the screen following a track is annoying. When you keep your wrist still while running or walking the screen should always stay on
Apple made a bad example that all these digital products tend to raise their price soon after they establish themselves in the market. Fenix is supposed to be a tool watch, not a luxury product... T-Rex doesn't look good (it looks ok but resembles Casio, Hublot, and AP too much making it feel cheap), but I can't persuade myself to get a 12k Fenix...
I agree that Amazfit 3 is not a Fenix killer but, what about comparing it with Enduro 3. I feel hard to decide and maybe Amazfit 3 IS Enduro killer. Where to start from..... Hardware? Buttons? Screen? Diving features? Price? and the most important for an athlete? HR ACCURACY. I can't see too many major differences for that difference in price. So i think that, even if it's not an Enduro killer, I'm feeling that they are equal. You are the best reviewer, thanks friend
I were planning on getting the Fenix 8 but after seeing this and many other videos on the t-rex i decided to go with amazfit. Garmin seems like it got the edge in the small details but it its not 900 € better in my opinion.
Maybe it would be better to cmpare the T-rex 3 and the Suunto Race S. Both non sapphire, both amoled, both chinese owned companies, both only app, no webpage.....I think for around 80$ less you get a lot more features with the T-Rex 3.
I think the most important thing mentioning about the Garmin over basically all Amazfit watches, is that the AI coach ia free, when the Amazfit is subscription based. Yes the watch is much cheaper, and not everyone needs the coach thing, but still important to mention. If you like the Garmin ecosystem, Amazfit's and Zepp simply ain't close.
Hi Dave! Great video as usual. I know you're great fan of the forerunner 965. So in your opinion which one is better? the T Rex 3 or the forerunner 965?
It's sort of the same discussion as the Fenix 8. The Forerunner has more useful maps (fully routeable), it also has more insightful wellness tools like body battery and training readiness and generally I regard those metrics as being more accurate than the Zepp versions. The T-Rex 3 has a slight edge in build quality compared to the 965, longer battery life, the microphone for interacting with Zepp assistant, and the dive features which the 965 lacks. It's also half the price. I suppose it boils down to which features you find most important.
Thanks for making this video, it helps a lot. Does the amazon music stream through the watch to air pods without having the phone? And does the enduro 3 have the weather over lays like the fenix 8 or is that just for amoled display?
I didn't realize this video would be so controversial. I was proud of this one and thought it would be helpful. But there's a handful of you posting nasty stuff and questioning my credibility. For you, I've created a follow up video: ruclips.net/video/ux6PKgtgNV0/видео.html

Fenix 8 price is the price for hype ....garmin will loose a lot of money if they keep these high prices

Appreciate the review and comparison. Ordered a T-Rex 3. As a beginner runner, seems like a great option.
I cover the brands/devices I find interesting and Amazfit is one of them. Hope you find it useful!
@@ChaseTheSummitthank you. This comparison helped me decide my next watch.
My comment is not about hating Amazfit or Garmin, I very love Amazfit devices and has many of them in my collection and I have also some cheaper models from Garmin and I think, for true sportsmen is Garmin better option.
please share more of your experience with ZEP!! Is it relaible? Can you use it for most of your needs without any subscriptions?ty
Garmin fanboys are hurt, returning my Fr 965 and getting a T-REX 3. It was such a fair comparison. I don't what complaining about. I didn't event know Amazfit existed before your first T-REX 3 video. Thanks for posting amazing content. Cheers!

This watch is just missing a flashlight to be the perfect buy. I hope they include one in the next version.
Pretty ridiculous that you need 1 hour over 2 videos to find some minor differences between watches $1k appart. Good work and props to amazfit.

I had bought the Fenix when it was a little over 300. Now it's it's a grand that's crazy.
28:03 ok but I do have to point out that the UI lag on the Fenix 8 is horrible here. Especially for a $1000+ flagship device in 2024.
The lag is likely due to a slower processor...that's how Garmin's battery life is so amazing compared to an Apple Watch, Pixel, or Samsung...those batteries only last a couple days due to their higher clock speeds and therefore higher battery demands.
Very good comparison, professional and fair. Everyone can draw their own conclusions
The laggy interface on the Garmin is a crime for 1k...
This. No one should accept that, Garmin should be called out on in more.
Absolutely unacceptable!!! I have the Trex2 and it is so much faster & responsive.
IIRC the laggy interface saves a lot of battery. The Fenix 8 would probably just have a week of battery compared to 22 days in smartwatch mode. But yeah, this should be an option in the options. And I fully agree that the prices for this watch is monumental.
well, Garmin put already on an updated version of the firmware. Perhaps some "lags" or "bugs" are already patched up.

It’s an awesome watch!
Would then also take a look at the forerunner 965.
Amazingly detailed review. It was much needed.
I was about to order Fenix 8 but this Amazfit came out
It looks too good to be true , EVEN BETTER than Fenix 8 in the most important matters :
- better bigger 1 5" display,
- brighter 2000 nits display
- smoother experience,
- better battery
- and most of all 1/4 the price
Battery, display, smoothness and especially PRICE are the most important fir 90% of users. 90% of us never use the extra features that Garmin has over T Rex 3
A great point, totally agree.
It’s Chinese. It’s always too good to be true. Those companies are backed by their government so they can sell at a cheap price.

I wish you compare the TRex3 against the FR265, FR165 and the Pace 3 as they are the direct competition in its price range.
This is the thing. It shouldn't even be compared against a watch that 1000€ and over. It should be compare with watched around 300€. This is unfair.

@@ChaseTheSummityou sure did

Trex3 feels like a fresh breath of air in the design area. Love the rugged but classy look, would look mad cool with a leather strap drinking ipas with the ladies.
I think if Garmin put more effort into releasing an armband tracker (whoop) or a ring tracker rather than an overpriced upgrade of the Fenix 7 series, they would see more sales. The ecosystem is awesome, but is stuck in 2015 compared to whoop regarding the app and insights. For example the whoop journal on garmin would be a game changer!

Thank you for this review, Dave! The Amazfit T-Rex 3 is a perfect budget adventure watch doing a lot of things for such a low price tag that would thoroughly fulfill 90% of the users out there. For the beginners, or just time to time adventurers it's a very compelling price and watch :D
Amzfit played a very intelligent card here!
Kindest regards from Brussels, Belgium
Great and very fair comparison Dave. Don’t listen to the haters! Love your channel!
I will get a T Rex 3 as soon as it's available in my country.
Thanks! Keep up the great work, Dave.
Wow! Thank you!
thank you for making it !!! I'm sitting on amazfit balance with calls and speaker! everything else is identical TRex. (sleep data shows incorrect)
Hmmm not really hey, the Zepp App is pretty good
At this point Garmin only advantage is its superior maps with route guidance
Sapphire Glass, Music streaming services, Speaker AND Microphone, Wellness data (body battery and sleep), built in flashlight... But yeah, if those are not important to you the maps as well.
Trex 3 is now serving for me. Very very super. Satisfying 200%
Hi Chase, greay comp video, just subscribed after lurking for a few months 😅 im curious why you compare Amazfit Readiness to Garmin Body Battery instead of to Garmin's training readiness? The latter seems much more analogous since it takes sleep history, recovery time, stress history, etc into account (body battery is purely stress related)
thank you for depth comparison, fenix 8 is my dream sport watch :D
I’d pay $200 minimum extra on the T. rex just for a flash light and sapphire
And speaker (i waiting a long for it in fenix ). I m balance user but huge crown anyoing a lot if it only have button will be great.
I'm with you ! I'd love a flashlight and Sapphire on it
That's about two third the price of the watchitself. You'd better off buying the watch again if you get scratches (which is unlikely unless you bang it hard).
I'm sure Amazfit will release updated T-rex Ultra in some time in the future and probably will have those features.
Amazfit is reading this ✌️
If you are constrained by budget then the decision is a no brainer 80% of the functionality for 1/4 price.
Absolutely agree
You mean delusional fanatics angrily down voting everything else...
I agree that Amazfit 3 is not a Fenix killer but,
what about comparing it with Enduro 3.
I feel hard to decide
and maybe Amazfit 3
IS Enduro killer.
Where to start from.....
Hardware?
Buttons?
Screen?
Diving features?
Price?
and the most important for an athlete?
HR ACCURACY.
I can't see too many major differences for that
difference in price.
So i think that, even if it's not an Enduro killer,
I'm feeling that they are equal.
You are the best reviewer,
thanks friend
I would be interested in this too.
Love your videos Dave. You are my goto for watch vids
