  • This 6km walk provides spectacular views all around the lake. We parked at the Gatesgarth Carpark, which takes cash only. We decided not to hike up the High Stile Mountain because we were afraid we wouldn't see anything after all the hard work. It started to rain since the beginning of the walk but the lake still looked very nice in the mist. It rained even harder by the time we get to the other end of the lake so we decided to go into the Syke Farm Tearoom in which we had to walk through the farm and was greeted by very curious bunch of Herdwick sheep. They were amazingly cute! The Syke Farm Tearoom provided us a shelter, lovely coffee and loo. It was good to have a little break from the rain. Once we got out, the mist had faded revealing an incredibly stunning landscape. The view at the bottom of lake Buttermere was mind blowing.
