    I can't understand why this brilliant engine is only used in so few applications (already dying out so to speak) - it's a masterpiece and I love how they used all available key-technologies to create the best 'downsizing engine' in my eyes ... ISG, split oiling, Camtronic, E-Charger, electrified accessories, OPF/GPF, multi-spark and -injection, lean burn, etc. This could have been the best possible transition from ICE to whatever with less-emissions. They wasted years and stupid money to create this beauty but instead of using and promoting it they seem to not care anymore about it. When the engine was released my first thought was: 'Yes, put this thing in a RWD C-Class, brand it AMG C53 and nobody gonna miss the 'ol V8' ... now they put a four-banger in the 'C63' and nobody seems to care. The 4-litre biturbo V8 already wasn't a good replacement for the NA 6,2, but now it's even worse. I worked in the industry and I understand that the golden ages of ICE are over, but why can't we get a smooth transition? Does it have to end 'hard'? I love my M274 as daily driver (C 300) and I love my Viper with it's mighty NA 8,4 V10 ... the M256 with pure RWD or the H2-Wankel from Mazda (as in the Vision RX-9) would have been most interesting to me (last ICE jeweles) - pity that they never gonna make 'em :-( Engine freaks like me can only 'look back' now and focus on 'old cars' - shame.

      My dear engine freak ICE is not dead it's just morphing......H2 engines will soon start to spread. Check out Cummins and BMW efforts to burn H2 instead of using it for fuel cells!!!.....I agree with you that this M256 seems to be the only engine that combine all of the best improvements an ICE engine can have!!

    • @Stag_Stopa

      @@Lmarcanov1978 Yeah, thanks. I'd rather believe in Santa Claus than the total move to H2/E-Fuels ... You're invited to revist my comment - as said I worked in engine development as engino dyno operator long enough and as German I get brainwashed about CO2, green future, H2 and E-Fuels on a daily basis by our mainstream propaganda. I know what H2/E-Fuels can achieve but I don't believe in a fast and easy transition - just replacing the energy carrier won't do ... the whole game has to change. In my opinion it would be better to put an end to ICE and move to an all-new strategy in terms of mobility (but preserve the existing classics) than crippling it more and more ... H2 1-litre three-banger - not for me.
      But by ALL means - I wish you all the best with your shiny, clean and idealistic future. Just leave us 'old' fellows behind in the dirt and PLEASE don't care or try to take us with you on this path.

      I'm sorry my friend even though you have excellent points but I don't agree with you as you know engineers and their corporation have stupid behavior they never perfect something they have stick to it let's say M272 with its numeral problems and whatever they do at the end it falls on my hand on your hand or somebody else hand and we suffer because they don't stick to it for 20 or 30 years and same is with this engine it has headache with the and huge problem removing that internal generator and replacing it it cost a lot of money I cannot accept what you're saying the end this engines and diesel engines they create a lot of chemicals it makes us sick turn around and look at how many people are sick with cancer why should we not move to the cleaner technology available at this moment I'm well past 50 years why shall we cry about the past

    That deck is crazy and looks like it can handle higher boost better than say a BMW N54 in its stock form. Can't wait to see someone tune this engine.

    They need to move the ISG to the front of the engine for easier repair. I know the engine is to long but add free valve and it’s a go!!! The return of the oil filter to the top of the engine, second to none. Only the Germans can figure it out.

    That was an excellent video and presentation. While the combustion engine’s hegemony might be waiving in the near future, this is a masterpiece and high water mark. The return to the inline 6 makes it even sweeter.

    I have the 2020 2 AM G Gle coupe, 53. Now my whole thing with this engine. It's a wonderful engine but the throttle or the shifting is rough. And if I don't catch it just right with my acceleration, it lurches but other than that, I love my car so very much. And it is so much fun to drive. And everybody looks at it like it's from outer space. I just really, really feeds into my male ego kind of thing if you will. Say what you will and so I always tell people 429 horsepowers plus that extra EQ boost. It is what it is ladies and gentlem excuse

    The electric super charger powered by the 48v system only builds boost pressure till 750rpm, there is a spring loaded diverted valve in the intake tract that is only open up to a certain pressure level

    I can’t believe Mercedes would go to so much trouble & expense to develop such a ground breaking engine, yet they failed to add port injection to augment the existing direct injection. Toyota, Lexus, Ford and other manufacturers have added port fuel injection to their direct injection engines to reduce the inevitable buildup of carbon deposits on the intake valves. In the big picture adding the port injectors to the inlet manifold would have been a minor added cost, however it would have offset a significant repair cost for decarbonizing the inlet valves once the engine had enough miles on it to choke-up with carbon. Of course, this would likely happen down the road after the vehicle warranty has expired….

    • @TDTVGarage
      @TDTVGarage  5 месяцев назад +1

      Or maybe the issue of "carbon buildup" is a little overblown.

      The stock turbocharger isn’t as large and won’t flow as much air when you push it, but otherwise it can handle plenty of power. I’ve seen some that are making 700+ wheel on stock engine with no issues

    • @bobvance-
      @bobvance- 21 день назад +1

      Capable of more horsepower imo. But they are both closed block, 7 main bearing engines. They can put out 1000 horsepower tuned and built for it.
