    There's def 3 distinct versions - the 1982-1990 formula that was more dark and more muted not as prickly (this alleged dark patchouli note doesn't really stand out to me - yet I do sense a slight more darkness) Cosmair made their own 90s formula that ran for about 10 years (my favorite- it has an added spicy kick yet lemony minty fresh along with the dark traditional base). You have the 2nd version in your hand. These 16 Vendome cosmairs are GORGEOUS. The modern Luxury LLC isn't too bad but very gutted- somewhat like the original 80s formula but not as dark. This was my dads signature to my connection to this one is solid. This was my childhood. I just smell pleasant protection.

      So, you love the 90's version...which is also the one I know best from my high school days. Nice. Thanks for the info on Drakkar Noir.

      The author of this video has a bottle (shaped like a sea pebble) not with the second formula of Drakkar Noir, but with a more modern formula (despite the Cosmair marking and "place Vendome 16" on the back of the bottle). Notice the spelling of the word "Paris" on the front of the bottle, if this word is written on a separate line and you see a space before writing each character this means that you have a modern version of the fragrance. And this version is not as good as older version. But his second bottle (kind of pyramid like) is the first formula, no doubt (despite that it was made in 1989 according to its batch, the second letter in batch decode the manufacturing year, so UA is 1981, UB is 1982, UC is 1983, etc., also address ""9, Avenue Matignon" had been used between 1986-1989 and "29, Rue du Faubourg St.Honorè" had been used between 1982-1986). The line "Guy Laroche Paris" on the bottles in two lines started from 1991. I have 4 bottles of the fragrance: one made in 1984, two bottles are made in 1990s, and the last one (2001 or 2003) which is just like the author has (the worst smell of them all) in the beginning of the video. Also you are right about 1990s formula it does has "an added spicy kick yet lemony minty fresh along with the dark traditional base". By the way, I'm highly recommend you to try Horizon by Guy Laroche, it is really good and its smell slightly echoes the second formula of Drakkar Noir. Best regards.

    I was super excited to see this pop up on my feed. I'm a fan of Drakkar Noir. It and Polo Green were the only 2 colognes that were it when i was growing up . I wore the modern DN over the last 2 days, I still enjoy it even tho after 5 hours, it's completely gone. What was the longevity, protection of that sample spray of the old formula?

    • @eaudetreasure
      @eaudetreasure  2 года назад

      Drakkar Noir has average performance for me, and it's good for 4-6 hours. I found the same performance for both of these, vintage and modern. The scent was slightly darker for the vintage.

    Great info! This frag takes me back to the late 80’s early 90’s. Wish i could find a vintage bottle just for the nostalgia.
    Please do a video on Aramis Tuscany Per Uomo. This frag has many variations and it would be great if you could also break it down for us.
    Keep up the awesome work!

      I do have a few bottles of the vintage Tuscany, but that was a while ago and they are packed away. If I come across it again, I'll make a video. Glad you like this Drakkar video.

    One of my local drugstores had a 6.75 US fluid ounce (7.05 Imp. Fluid Ounces) bottle of Drakkar Noir for the equivalent of $19.07 in November of 2023.

      @@eaudetreasure believe me if I didn’t already have a bottle it would have been. Drakkar Noir was one of the first fragrances I had. My late mom used to buy it for me when I was a lot younger than I am now. But it was a lot later than the 1980s.

    I just received an brand new, never used 1991 bottle of drakkar noir, very strong stuff and amazing smell, i guess you weren't lucky with your bottles, because they might be spoiled due to not been properly stored or just too much oxygen inside (?) =)

      Perhaps. I'm happy with that mid-90's bottle in this video. I actually found a 1986 bottle recently and the video is coming soon.

    Hi there. I have that bottle in your left hand Mister. 2002 batch is mine.
    I would like to buy it the tall one. I have found on internet that huge bottle from 1989 but the box is the same as modern boxes. There is no that thick red line over the logo on the box. It's weird.
    Anyway. Are they different?
    Best wishes

      I don't know much about the boxes, just the bottles. Check Raiders of the Lost Scent for more info about that.

    Definitely one of the most famous mens perfumes for sure. Also, for The Office US fans... Michael Scott wore a clone of this stuff 😁

      @eaudetreasure  Год назад +1

      A clone of Drakkar Noir? Was that mentioned in the show? What's it called? The cheapest one I saw sold online is called "Black Forest"...it wasn't good.

    • @basilfabian05
      @basilfabian05 Год назад

      @@eaudetreasure it was called night swept and Michael didn’t want to pay for the label of Drakkar Noir so he got that instead. He mentions that in the episode 😂 (season 1 ep6).

    im sorry but that older Drakkar has got to be off condition being it has to be over 20 plus years old. this would definitely affect the legitimacy of this smell test.

      Yeah that is the problem with reviewing vintage fragrances. They think they are actually smelling what it smelled like when it was made, but they aren't. Some elements will breakdown, and this can cause other elements to appear stronger, some elements to no longer be a part of the scent etc. The cologne may still be good, but the smell will no longer be an accurate representation of what it smelled like 20, 30 or 40 years ago. Most reviewers do not understand that. Most reviewers think, I got a bottle from 37 years ago, so this is exactly what it smelled like 37 years ago, but that simply is not the case. It is even worse with thing like Eau De Colognes, because they use more water than alcohol, and will simply go bad over time. There is simply a very slim chance an old bottle of Drakkar is gonna smell exactly like it did when it was made. For that to happen you'd need the right conditions, like the right temperature at all times to preserve every single elements in the bottle. I have a better way to compare the new to old Drakkar. Find a clone that uses the original formula. I know one that does, it is called Classic Match. The Classic Match clone uses a copy of the original formula. So just compare the Classic Match to a new bottle of Drakkar. The Classic Match is gonna smell more like the original Drakkar than an old bottle of the original Drakkar. They have been making the Classic Match clone since the early 90s, and the formula has never changed. It literally smelled identical to Drakkar.

    Some places the price is between $28-40 dollars for the modern one, which is not worth it, in my opinion. it lasts around 3-4hrs on my skin.👎🏼👎🏼 The vintage was a monster in performance.

    IFRA restriction in French killed most beautiful perfumes in the market
    Therefore, you can't buy any perfume nowadays because of reformulation and this is what happened to newest batch of Drakkar noir 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

    • @eaudetreasure
      @eaudetreasure  6 месяцев назад

      Haven't tried a new one. The biggest changes from IFRA happened in 2010. I think the fragrances today are still good, but not as good as before.
