It's like they're missing the point entirely... Wrong Way isn't exactly a speed run series, it's hanging out and building stuff on a live stream. Tbf, I only started watching after I finished SU and AA in one go 😄 and I usually don't watch lives -but the format is growing on me with all the banter and occasional chat interactions.
"Splitsie spent all these hours to build something that doesn't look good" - Me, who spends twice as long to build either (1) a blob of functional blocks held together by only the bare minimum armor blocks necessary to function, or (2) a brick-shaped featureless shell of armor blocks, but either way colored Default Gray.
If this series is teaching me one thing then it's that you should first get the functional part done before you pretty it up. There's always a way to rearrange things later. Just look at how Wasted's rover keeps evolving, from a flatbed with a funny concept to a really cool and somewhat functional vehicle.
@@w.i.t.c.h.q.u.e.e.n totally agree. Everything evolves. If it doesn't, it wasn't worth keeping in the first place 😊 and w4sted's flatbed was initially a fun concept, evolving into the stealth-vehicle of convoy-terror (Wrong Way team are the bad guys, right?? 🤣)
Your hitch needs to be built without up and down. Just left and right and add in a rotor for twist. This is how the articulated off-road dump trucks work With the current setup the hitch in the middle will droop or peak against the rotor limits you set constantly
At every checkpoint, the wrongco should get another decorative piece built by the NPCs. Bananas, Burgers, Trees, Milkshakes, etc. that would be hilarious. 🤣
It would Aslo be really fun to see them use the “more survival aspect” type mods like the food and water one so they have to have farms and water on the grid
I don't know what programming this current Capaclone has, but it's kinda disconcerting how helpful it's being this episode. Makes me think it's gonna go haywire in the next episode, and nuke the whole galaxy with BSG Cylon mentality. Either way, this has been an entertaining episode as always, gents. Keep up the awesome job.
"A day without unnecessary complication is like a day without sunshine" -Anita Bryant's Descendants Also: why does the service vehicle have the grabber facing sideways? If it was on the front facing back, you wouldn't have to wiggle drive the wheels out and in.
A sensor on the lift that stops it just above the ground could be a useful addition. Then it should always be at the right height, so you don't have to adjust all the angle stops like you did for Capac near the end of the stream. Also, now that you have more space, moving the programmable block running Isy's Inventory would allow you to walk down the right side of the Wrongco. Given how many times all of you seem to try walking down that side, it could be a small yet impactful "quality of life" change.
It has a sensor doing that already, one of the nice features I managed to remember to set up during the week 🙂 Yeah, lots of little things like the pathways can be made so much better with the added width
This whole "getting up the mountain" business is taking long enough for it to be a really viable alternative to make a mining rig to dig a winding path up the mountain instead of trying to crawl up the crags :D
At that point, wouldn't it be prudent to make the Wrongco into a full-size TBM? Have an articulated drill footprint that allows for direction and elevation changes?
It's more that it's not the interesting way, much like tunneling up to an enemy base, it's a slow process that's near guaranteed to work once you know a couple of limitations, so it's just not suitable for live entertainment. While this rebuild was quite peaceful, it'll hopefully keep us moving for a while and allow us more room for more small grid shenanigans going forward :) At least that's the hope, sometimes despite my best intentions the plans don't quite work out as entertaining as I hope :P
2:40:00 "we haven't had any convois to raid, just been able to focus on building" 2:41:22 "Red marker appears" I believe the "DMs" heard Splitsie, and thought; this won't do, we have to give Capac a distraction from being helpfull and compliant!! (Sorry @Capac, just following the ABCs 😅 )
Got to love the fact that Splitsie had a go at TFE for not measuring how wide a boulder is and then makes his own vehicle without measuring how wide the wheels were. Lol 🤪 It did work remarkably well though. :-)
With Splitsie's ammount of hours in this game, I bet he has the width of 4 large grid blocks memorized in relation to aproximation of small grid. I mean, it hasn't changed since first release in 2013 (that was SE's Early Access creative release, right??).
@@salemprompthous3820 20 small blocks exactly, you tend to remember it when dealing with mixed grid builds or when you build hangers/garages for small grid stuff enough times
Yeah, I just went off memory and figured it'd be about right. I'd have said the same about myself not measuring had I gotten it wrong. I've definitely said 'cut thrice, measure nonce' more than once on stream about myself :D
So the little rover that transplanted these massive wheels is a sort of inadvertent nod to real life. There are actual dollies designed for car wheels that my previous job used, except in one instance the wheels were attached to a massive car, and nearly crushed the dollies because we were also using them to lift the car (oops). The entire exercise of removing and re-installing the huge wheels on the Wrongco reminded me of a racing pit crew, in slow motion. Good thing you guys didn't have to deal with bolts.
You should use actual suspensions for your suspension. Keep the contraption you already have, but build an upside-down wheel suspension attached to the main body for each "arm". The wheel of the new suspensions presses down on the arm. Then you use suspension height and strength of the new suspensions to adjust the 'suspension' of the arm it's pressing on.
Hey Splitsie, when will be the Assertive acquisitions series back? I used to watch every single one of them episodes, so much so that it showed up on the Yt gaming rewind 2024 for me.
It'll be back when this ends, whenever that may be. I've learnt long ago that pushing Capac to play too much Space Engineers at once is not a good thing :)
Should have left room for a hole in the dead center for a vertical piston pointing down that has a rotor with small grid head with an H frame with six wheels attached to it that is just slightly smaller than the wheel base and sits right up against the bottom(possibly moving TFE's apartment onto it). For precision parking you lower that until it lifts the wronco off the ground and drive the small grid creeper car. It would look so silly but work great.
For the requirement to have more sub grids, you could add a piston to each 'wheel' to push them out when you require a wider wheel base. Effectively making the Wrongco wider when needed.
Pistons holding the weight of the entire Wrongco? While it's a nice thought, it wouldn't work. The pressure of the big-rig's weight would snap the extended pistons before reaching any relevant extension. This is something chat suggested during stream aswell, where Splitsie and w4sted explained the same issues
Sadly I think we will indeed reach the point where even with shared inertia tensor the piston would not be happy, but there's a bigger downside with the new suspension setup, and it's that you'd need the piston at the end of the suspension arm, making it quite large and potentially put some unusual forces through the hinges due to the wheels being further from their centre. Alternatively you'd have the central rotor on a hinge, which would mostly suffer from the potential bending unhappiness
hehe one fun thing is you could have a bit of a lough in creative have thee hinges in centerline as the axel and hte wheels at the end and place a 1x1 wheel towards the end of the chasse a a puffer so you don't allways get crash noises every time the axewl reaches it's limit, the 3 hinges is just so A you got redundency when one breaks so it's not losing the axel and two if the cassy get's havier you got more space to increas the breaking thorgue. buuuut it also means the entire thing gets 2-3 blocks further from the ground and becomes nicely top havy to role over if you overdo it^^ Have fun on your trip and may the airport flue evade you.
Ive still got an hour and a half. Im looking at the Wrongco and hoping you guys make the front wheels on the trailer narrow enough to tuck between the rear wheels of the front half. Its definitely not the plan at this point😂
The name of the suspension at the 1:04:00 mark would be a Walking Beam Suspension in real life suspension. I think this is a fitting name for the Wrongco
another tip for the elevator. You have a sensor that triggers on a player being below it. How about a spotlight pointing down to indicate in the dark where to stand. Although I know you guys don't play through the night.
It's getting so close to it already. Why not make the Wrongco into a full-size TBM machine with an articulated front drill footprint that allows for direction and elevation changes?
It might be a bit much, but you could replace the hinge segment with the train-car hinge you used in Scrapyard, so that when it breaks, you don't get completely disconnected.
I mean because of how ineffective the articulation steering is, it would probably be better to have "max left" "zero" "max right" buttons instead of hinge speed.
Once it's finished AA will be coming back. I don't like dragging capac into too much se at once as he gets easily burnt out on it, this way we get three best capac bits we can 🙂
I'm curious why you don't just add extra tires to the existing wheels to get larger diameter therefore larger rolling circumference. I think that would fix the wheels .
You can't add wheels to wheels, they have no attachment points. It would require a complete rebuild of the wheels to use the longer suspensions and would also end up with a less rounded wheel :(
The whole time Splitsie is building up and over the lift I’m thinking “why not just extend out the opposite side???” Then the lift doesn’t have to move AND it’s not in the way of the extension.
