  • Porsche's test driver, Lars Kern, recently set a new record for luxury class cars with combustion engines and hybrids. In the upcoming top model of the Panamera series, Kern clocked an impressive time of 7:24.17 minutes on the Nordschleife track.
Kern is no stranger to setting records. He previously set class records on this challenging track in 2016 and 2020 with the Panamera, most recently achieving 7:29.81 minutes in the Panamera Turbo S. The new Panamera's lap time, over five seconds faster than the previous model, highlights the ongoing improvements made to this four-door sports car.
The Panamera's enhanced performance comes from its electrically supported eight-cylinder combustion engine, which delivers remarkable driving capabilities. However, this isn't the sole factor contributing to the improved lap time.
For safety, the Panamera driven by Kern featured a racing seat and a mandatory safety cage, but was otherwise similar to the standard version. The car was equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, sized 275/35 ZR 21 at the front and 325/30 ZR 21 at the rear, which were specially designed for the Panamera. The optional Carbon Aerokit was used to enhance performance by reducing lift on the front axle. Combined with the Gurney flap on the adaptive 4-way rear spoiler, these features generate downforce, improving aerodynamic balance.
